Author's POV:
"The worst part is, we always know what we want.. but for some reason, we hold ourselves back" Taehyung took a sip of their last bottle of beer and then handed it to Jungkook, "why don't we take charge of our own destiny? What's meant to happen will happen only if we consider the possibilities.. Am I making sense, koo?"
Jungkook nodded, "you are.. it's kinda crazy how we leave it up to fate.. So if fate truly exists, does that mean we don't have free will?"
"Who knows" Taehyung sighed, swinging his arm over Jungkook's shoulder, "I just know that I'm happy to be with you.."
Jungkook smiled, looking right into the other boy's shining eyes, "I'm happy too, Tae."
They had been here for almost an hour, sitting under a random tree in the middle of the night, talking about life in general... A normal person would be too drunk to make sense but we were talking about Taehyung and Jungkook...
"Do you think y/n knows?" Jungkook asked as he tried to maintain his balance on top of a fallen tree trunk.
"Careful Jungkook- you'll trip-" Taehyung almost rushed to hold him but Jungkook didn't fall, "knows what?"
"Y/n.. does she know that we are in love with her?"
"I think she does" Taehyung said, "it's in her eyes.."
"Will she choose one of us?"
"It'll probably be me.."
"How can you be so sure about it?"
"I just know it"
"There's no way y/n is choosing you over me.. it's most certainly be- ahhh-" Jungkook's foot twisted and he tripped.. but Taehyung obviously caught him at the right moment, "me"
"You?" Taehyung looked into Jungkook's eyes.
"Yes me- she'll choose me" Jungkook grinned, wrapping his arms around Taehyung's neck.
"Oh" Taehyung was still staring intently into Jungkook's doe eyes that seemed to be shining under the moonlight, "and what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Who would you choose?"
"Huh?"
"Nothing" Taehyung shook his head, no intention to put Jungkook down, "are you hurt?"
"No" Jungkook said, smiling at Taehyung fondly, "you caught me."
"Always, koo"
The smile dropped from Jungkook's face when he saw the expression on the other boy's features.. Taehyung looked vulnerable, his eyes were full of a kind of tenderness and longing and... something else... What was going on in his mind was clear as day but Jungkook was too shy to tell him that he was thinking of the same thing..
"Jungkook-" he breathed, the lump in his throat quite visible.
"Yes?" his heart was beating violently.
"I want to- I need to-" he sighed, "can I-"
"Yes.. please, yes"
And maybe time stopped when their lips met.. the only sound that could be heard in the quiet of the forest were the loud thumps of their hearts. Jungkook's fingers found a home in Taehyung's hair while Taehyung's grip was still strong on Jungkook's thighs and back, holding him up.
Taehyung only wanted to focus on how soft Jungkook's lips felt against his, how much he missed this exact feeling of being close to Jungkook, getting to hold him, getting to kiss him.. He was so lost in the kiss that he didn't even notice when he laid him down and how his hands were now wrapped around Jungkook's tiny waist.
Jungkook was weak in the knees, he felt so overwhelmed yet so adored by the way Taehyung gently put him down only to increase the force by which their lips moved in unison.. It came so naturally yet it felt like it had been ages since he touched him.. His entire body tingled as Taehyung pulled away, gasping for breath, only to hungrily put his mouth on top of Jungkook's again. He gave in, parting his lips as Taehyung's warm tongue danced with his own.
The adrenaline rush that came from kissing Jungkook was pure madness... Taehyung nearly forgot how to breathe. The little breaths leaving Jungkook's lips, his low moans mixing with the sounds escaping Taehyung's throat- his heart wanted to explode. He never expected things to get normal between him and Jungkook.. normal to the point that he'd be kissing his ex boyfriend.. He had given his heart away to y/n now.. he loved her with every particle in his body.. But he wouldn't give this moment away for the world...
Jungkook knew he should stop. He loved y/n.. not Taehyung.. Taehyung belonged to his past, y/n was his present and his future.. he had moved on.. He shouldn't be affected like that.. but he still found himself kissing Taehyung as if his life depended on it... As if they were forbidden lovers in some cheap romantic novel..
None of them wanted to part, but Taehyung had this sudden urge to hold Jungkook's face and look into his eyes. He saw the entire galaxy in his eyes. He wanted to hold him forever and never let go..
Maybe, just maybe, he saw the slightest bit of regret on Jungkook's face when their eyes met but it passed as soon as it came....
He wanted to say something to console him, something that would save him from the repentance that was to follow.. but all he could muster was-
"You wanna hold hands?" he put his hand out to Jungkook, "we can- uh- blame it on the alcohol tomorrow, maybe?"
This time, however, a clear look of hurt was painted on Jungkook's face...he just stared at him incredulously, "are we middle school kids who just confessed their love for each other?"
Taehyung was starting to put his hand away, clearly embarrassed "You could've politely refus-"
"I am so not doing this sober" Jungkook entwined his fingers with Taehyung's who had the shyest, purest and most contended smile on his face.
"Had it not been for my stupidity, do you think we would've still been together?" Taehyung asked, lightly swinging their hands together as they moved out of the forest.
Jungkook shrugged, "I don't know"
"I think we would've been together.. I really liked you, you know?"
"Mhmm"
"I had never wanted anyone to meet my parents before... just you and now, of course, y/n.."
Jungkook nodded, "okay"
"You know what? We would've been a power couple.."
"Taehyung I-" Jungkook faced the other boy and squeezed his hand, "i don't wanna sound rude but- but can we not talk about this? I mean, I don't see a point talking about it-"
"Of course" Taehyung nodded, "whatever you say.. you wanna head back now? I'm kinda tired.." he retreated his hand and Jungkook immediately regretted asking him to shut up, already missing the feeling of their hands together.
"Sure" he replied.
