I'll handle it

I wake up just like every morning on weekdays. Turn of the alarm.  Silently praying that what had happened during the weekend was a dream.

But sadly the empty bedside is reassurance enough that it wasnt. Shes really gone.

I can feel the bags under my eyes. I only caught one hour of rest. It wasnt even easy to tire myself out. I quickly shower, then clean up the bedroom.

Dressed in a Calvin Klein suit, I walk down the stairs to brew some coffee. I plate some fruits and some waffles I found in the fridge.

Upon waiting for the coffee, I tidy up the seating area and the dining area. And wipe off the kitchen counters.

I'm going to have to get used to this since the woman that used to stay home and do all of this- because she enjoyed it- left.

With that little breakfast,  I charge out of the penthouse ,into my car and to work.  I turn to the clock, 6:48 am. I've still got sometime.

I turn on the radio, I dont even check which station it is.

"... and he walked out?" The guy asks.

"Yes, right then and there. Leaving the bride at the altar." A woman says, with a hint of humor in her voice.

"I would've done the same. I mean– " I turn off the radio.

They find what happened to me, my heartbreak amusing? They have got to be kidding me.

I park the car as soon as I reach the building and I walk out.

So many things are swirling about in my brain. But I focus on one. I have a new employee coming in and her name is Gabriella.

When I walk in, the once alive and vibrant foyer/offices -as it has those cubicles that my workers sit in - immediately dies.

Instead, mummers fall onto the atmosphere.  I walk down that hallway silently. When I reach the receptionist desk, I grab a cup of coffee and I walk to the elevator.

When I'm inside the cube, I hear the room light back to life, but this time it's about me.

The receptionist on the top floor stares at me, pity written all over her face. Thus aggravates me .

"You have someone waiting in your office." Is all she says when she notices my anger.

I walk into my office, and the floor to ceiling window are supposed to calm me, but instead I'd say they make me feel more anxious.

Gabriella is seated on one of the leather chairs infront of the large mahogany desk.

She stands when she fells my presence. She outreaches her arm to shake mine.

"Good morning Mr Meyer." She greets.

"Welcome to Meyer Legacy,  as you know. I'm Nathan Meyer. And I just might be your boss. Take a seat." I greet, trying my hardest to smile and show no sign of what took place during the weekend.

"Thank you." She says and we both plop onto the cold leather chairs.

"So Ms Gabriella,  tell me about yourself." I demand. She smiles and fixes herself.  For the time, I notice her wedding band.

It's hard to imagine this woman as one you met at a strip club . And for the first time, I'd say shes actually pretty.

"Well. You already know my name, Gabriella Torres. I am married and am expecting a child. I live with my husband and mother. I dont have much of an educational background.

I dont have any siblings. I worked at a strip club for two years, trying to make ends meet. I dont have much to say about me. I guess I'm mostly about family ." She says.

"Alright, how well do you work with people?" I ask her. She looks at me and smiles.

"I love people, so I'd say I work really well with them." She replies.

"Say you have a fall out with your husband and now have to come to work. You're heavily upset, how does that affect the quality of your work?" I ask her.

"It doesnt affect it at all. Working at a strip club might seem like such a bad and disturbing thing. But if there's anything it has taught me is to never bring my problems to work." She says. I nod.

"Well Ms Gabriella, there's only one thing left to say. Welcome to Meyer Legacy,  since you don't have much experience you'll start by working as my Personal Assistant. " I tell her and she nods frantically.

"When can I start?" She asks.

"You can start now. Since you came to the meeting two hours early. " I tell her.

She blushes.

"I just couldn't wait. And I thought seeing as you're a highly important person, youd probably have line of people waiting to be interviewed. " she shyly said.

"Ms Gabriella, fun fact is that. Right now we're not hiring.  And I dont need a personal assistant, but I will do all that's in my might to help those who need it. So I helped you." I tell her. She smiles in awe.

"Thank you Mr Meyer. God bless you." She says. Shaking my hand.

"And congratulations on the baby." I say and as if of instinct her hand falls to her stomach.

She thanks me again and goes outside, I asked Maddison to orientate her.

How much I'd have killed to have that with Elizabeth. A child of our own. I'd prayed day and night that I'd soon be a father and she a mother. But she just had to leave.

Walking to the foyer for lunch, again I hear quiet murmurs. Instead this time I dont keep my cool.

"Do you have anything to say? Dont you have jobs to do?"I yell. They look at me, surprised by my sudden outburst.

But who wouldnt be this way after what that woman has done to me. I mentally make the decision to eat out. I take a refreshing walk down the road to a Mexican restaurant near.

I sit down and eat. I can feel people's eyes on me, but I barely do anything.  The contact in here is overwhelming. Even the waiter couldn't help themselves as they look at me.

I pay the bill and wall back out, as I'm walking. A woman comes up to me.

"Mr Meyer, what do you have to say about the events of yesterday?" She asks.

I stare blankly at her, a group of men follow also asking questions. I just look at them. I keep walking until I reach the company.

I walk upstairs, I get my keys and I walk back down.

As I'm about to drive of the company, a mob of journalists bombard me. All of them blanketing my car.

I honk the bell, there's only a really thin line between my patience and my brutal anger.

When they dont move, I start the car and peel off the lot. Leaving all of them scared for their lives that I might have bumbed into them.

I pick the phone up and I ring Gabriella.

"Hello?" She asks.

"Gabriella, it's me. I'm going to start working from home. So I'll send you my address and you can work around that.  Is that okay?" I ask her.

"Yes Mr Meyer, anything.  Are you alright?" She asks.

"Yes thank you." And I end the call.
