A bad mental health day led to Sam floating around the Bunker like some sort of ghost.
Nothing had happened since the incident the week prior and cabin fever was starting to set into the younger Winchester's head.
"Okay. I think it's time for that vacation we talked about." Dean huffed, shoving a slice of bacon into his mouth as he leant up against the counter in the kitchen.
"Alright... And what if you need us for something?" Eden cocked a brow, leaning back in her chair at the kitchen table.
"Then I'll call. But, seriously. It's been quiet and Sammy's getting all emo again. You guys need that break before it starts getting busy. Go screw your week away or something, I don't know." He shrugged. "Cas and I have got the kids covered. Just... Go and have some fun."
Eden scoffed, hiding her amused smirk in her glass of blood as she took a gulp.
"Any destination recommendations?"
Dean frowned, thinking for a moment as he ate another piece of bacon.
"Bobby's got a cabin up by the White Oak Gap in the North Georgia mountains." He suggested with his mouth full. "Probably kinda romantic and sappy, you know?"
"Not a bad idea..." Eden gave a mouth shrug. "I'll go talk to him."
Dean nodded, watching her chug the rest of the blood in her glass before getting up, washing it out in the sink and leaving the room.
"Sam?" Eden called, heading towards the bedroom.
"Yeah, in here." He replied through the door.
She entered, closing the door behind her and launching herself front-first onto the bed next to him.
"So... Dean's kicking us out." She smirked.
"What? Why?" He frowned, looking up from the book in his hand.
"He wants us to go on that vacation whilst its quiet. He recommended Bobby's cabin in the Georgia Mountains."
"What if something happens here and we're needed?" He sighed, putting the book down in his lap.
"We drive there. If we're needed, I zap us back. It'll be fine. We need a break longer than a few hours. Dean's somewhat reassured me that he and Pigeon will have everything handled here." Eden cocked a playful brow. "Come on, it'll be fun. I promise."
Sam sighed again, lifting a hand to put her chin between his index finger and thumb.
"You believe Dean has the capability to play babysitter to Jack and Willow for a whole week?" He smirked.
"No," She giggled. "I believe he'll take care of anything monster related and Pigeon will deal with anything on the kids front. It's kinda their couple's dynamic."
Sam chuckled, shaking his head.
"Fine. I'll go. You're right, we could do with a break." He gave a small smile as she leaned in, placing a soft kiss on his lips.
"Get ready. We'll leave in forty-five minutes." She said, scrambling off the bed.
After packing and saying goodbye to everyone, they were on the road in Eden's Camaro. The journey would take roughly seventeen hours, so they made sure to pack plenty of blood bags, road food and other essentials for a long drive.
Much to Sam's enjoyment, Eden had installed a stereo system in the car, complete with aux cable so that he could plug in his phone and 'shotgun' could pick the music.
The cabin required some hiking, as Bobby had bought this particular cabin in case of something that required him to go entirely off grid.
But, boy, was the view worth it.
The cabin was small, but picturesque, overlooking a Y valley in the North Georgia Mountains.
They'd got there just as the sun was coming up the next day.
Sam put his arm over Eden's shoulders as they looked out at the sun coming up between the valley.
"It's beautiful." The Dark Angel smiled.
"Yeah, it is." He hummed, not looking away from her, only to close his eyes and kiss her hair. He turned her around in his arms, drawing her attention to him. "Thank you for this."
"There's no need to thank me, Sam. This was needed." Eden smiled, gazing into the hazel eyes that burned a very pale green in the sunlight.
"All the same... Thank you." He whispered, brushing a piece of hair from her face that had been caught by the morning breeze.
"You're welcome." Eden stood on her toes, her eyes falling closed as Sam's did, connecting their lips in a perfect kiss. "What do you say we get everything inside and make up for lost time?"
"Sounds good to me." Sam replied, chuckling lowly.
He released her and walked to the trunk of the car, fishing out their bags for the week while Eden unlocked the cabin door with the key Dean had told her was under a particular floorboard in the cabin's porch.
They entered, seeing a small kitchen area to their left, a seating area and TV in front of them and a bedroom area to the right, with a door leading to what was assumed to be a bathroom just passed the right hand night stand.
"Cozy." Eden commented, looking around. "And rather charming."
"Definitely." Sam nodded, his gaze falling on every object in the room one by one as he placed the bags down by the couch in front of them.
"Are you hungry? Do you want me to make you something to eat?" She asked.
"No. No, I'm good. Still full from road food." He chuckled, moving towards her to place his hands on her hips. "Besides, I could think of something I'd rather be doing right now."
"Oh?" Eden smirked, running her hands up his arms. "Pray tell."
Sam smiled, moving to cup her face, bringing her in for a welcomed kiss.
Castiel walked through the War room, headed for the kitchen where he heard pots and pans being moved about.
Just as he was about to go down the singular step into the room, he fell to his knees, clutching his head in agony as he cried out.
"Cas?" Dean frowned, running to him. "Cas, man, what's wrong?"
"My head. That noise... You can't hear it?" The Angel groaned.
He looked up at the Winchester, making Dean gasp at what he saw. Castiel's eyes shed tears of blood down his cheeks, his nose, mouth and ears also bleeding.
"Jack! Jack, get in here!" He yelled, holding Castiel by his shoulder.
Willow ran in, panting for breath.
"Dean, it's Jack. Something's happening."
"Him too?" The Hunter exclaimed, turning back to Castiel. "Damn it, Cas, you gotta tell me what's wrong. What sound?"
"It's... It's like Angel radio. But it's not. It's different, I can't make it out. It's-" The Angel gasped, his head flying back, his blood-soaked eyes wide as his pain faded. He looked to Dean, blinking a few times.
"I need to go check on the kid. Are you good?" The Winchester asked.
Cas nodded, prompting Dean to break into a run with Willow on his tail towards Jack's room.
The Nephilim was just as Castiel had been. He was in the fetal position on
his bed, clutching his head as he rode out the last of the pain.
"Hey, kid, you okay?" Dean asked, sitting on the bed as he placed a hand on the boy's back.
"I don't know what that was..." Jack panted.
"No, I don't either. It happened to Cas, too. Is it an Angel thing?"
"It felt like... Me." The boy frowned, finally able to sit up a little.
"What do you mean?" Willow pressed, standing in the bedroom doorway.
"It felt like my energy - Nephilim energy." He elaborated.
Castiel ran down the hall, appearing behind Willow with bated breaths.
"You need to call Eden." He said.
"Sam..." Eden breathed, falling back in the large double bed.
"That was..."
"I think we just conceived." Her eyes were wide as they stared up at the ceiling.
"What did you just say?" Sam's neck could've snapped with the speed he turned to face his fiancée.
"We did it..."
"How can you be sure?"
"I saw..." Eden breathed, her eyes remaining fixed on the ceiling for a few seconds longer before she slowly turned her head towards him. "Would you like to see?"
Sam nodded eagerly, watching as she sat up a little. Eden placed her index and middle fingers on his temples and closed her eyes.
Black smoke trailed from her fingertips, under Sam's skin like dark veins towards his eyes. They turned black, much like hers or a Demon's.
That was when he saw it, too...
The imagery was like it started at the very centre of the universe, zooming in at warp speed into some sort of time/space meld. The big bang, the creation of every nebula, star and planet. Sam's heart pounded in his chest as the images changed to what appeared to be the inside of a Human body, the formation of a tiny little bean that would, soon enough, grow to be one of the most powerful creatures in the universe.
As Eden took her fingers away and opened her eyes, Sam's changed back to their regular hazel, wide and alert.
"Holy crap..." He panted through an open-mouthed grin. "We did it."
"We're going to be parents." Eden smiled, her eyes welling up.
Sam grabbed her face, cupping it in his hands as he pulled her in for a deep kiss that was soon cut off by Eden's phone ringing on the night stand behind her.
"Why does someone always have to ruin our moment?" She groaned, flopping her head down so that her forehead was resting on his chest.
Sam chuckled, gently leaning over to grab the phone.
"It's Dean..." He frowned, answering the call to put on speaker. "Hey, what's up?"
"Are you guys okay? I've just had Cas bleeding on the kitchen floor and Jack doing the same in his room. Cas said I needed to call Eden. What's going on?" The older brother blurted.
"When Lucifer and Kelly..." Eden trailed off, gasping at the realisation. "They're doing what I did when Jack was conceived."
"Uh... Dean, how'd you feel about becoming an uncle?" Sam asked, his eyes never leaving Eden's.
There was a slight pause on the line. Then muffled voices.
"You're freaking kidding me, right?" They could hear Dean's frown.
"'Fraid not." Eden gave an awkward smile through gritted teeth.
"You two just had sex and now you're all sticky and talking to me? Gross, guys." He grimaced, making the pair laugh.
"You called us, remember." Eden smirked.
"Yeah, whatever." Dean uttered through a breathy chuckle. "So... You just made me an uncle? That's... That's friggin' awesome. Congratulations, you horny sons of bitches."
"Thank you." The Dark Angel giggled.
"Crap, I gotta let everyone know. Don't be having too much fun, you only just got there. But celebratory sex is definitely on the cards."
"Shut up." Sam scoffed, unable to hide his bright smile. "Talk soon."
He hung up the phone, throwing it in the general direction of the night stand before pulling Eden on top of him, bringing her in for another kiss. His fingers wound themselves into the roots of her hair, using every ounce of passion, love and adoration he had for her.
The next evening, Sam was eating chicken pasta salad on the couch with Eden next to him, sipping from a blood bag. A thought arose in the Winchester's head, causing him to sigh.
"What's up?" Eden asked, frowning.
"Hm?" Sam snapped out of whatever was going on in his head, turning to her. "Oh, nothing. Just... Dare I say I like this? Just us watching crappy TV, no monsters, no anything, the best news we could ever hope for... I know this is only for a week, but maybe, if we ever get to retire, we should get somewhere like this. What do you think?"
Eden gave a small smile, looking around the place before turning back to him.
"That sounds perfect." She nodded. "Might need to make it a bit bigger, but sure."
Sam smirked, placing his plate down on the coffee table in front of him before leaning back on the couch, throwing an arm over the back.
"Bigger, maybe a little closer to civilisation unless you want to zap back and forth for supplies every week." He chuckled, pulling her into his side.
"I don't mind that. It's not like it takes up energy." Eden shrugged, looking up at him through her lashes. "Our version of this definitely needs a fireplace, though. I miss listening to the sounds of a fire crackling in front of me."
"That can be arranged." Sam nodded, kissing her hair when he got a whiff of himself. "Gross. Think a bath is in order for me..."
"I've got it." Eden replied, hopping off the couch before he could protest.
Once the bath was ready, the Dark Angel led Sam to it and got him settled, going to the kitchen to grab him a beer before sitting down on the floor with her arms resting on the edge of the tub.
"I could get used to this, too." He smiled, bringing the beer bottle to his lips.
"I'm sure you could." Eden chuckled, sending him a playful gaze through her lashes.
"Join me." He suggested.
"The bath isn't that big." She cocked a brow.
"I'm sure we can make it work. Come on, join me."
Eden sighed, looking his body over under the water.
"Fine." She smirked, standing up.
"You don't have to if you don't want to." Sam chuckled, shaking his head.
"No, I want to."
He watched as Eden slipped out of her dress and underwear, then made space for her by separating his legs.
She climbed in and gently rested her back against his chest.
Sam wrapped his arms around her middle, placing his hands over her abdomen.
She hummed in content, leaning her head against his peck as her eyes fell closed.
"Good decision." She whispered.
"Definitely." He chuckled, kissing her temple softly. "I can't believe we're finally going to be parents."
"Me neither." Eden sighed. "My whole life I thought it wouldn't be possible. Even after Amara told me I could, I was sceptical and thought Jack and Willow were the closest we'd get. But this? This is perfect."
"It is." Sam smiled, kissing her temple once more. "Is it normal to be stupidly excited but also really nervous? You know, probably more than a normal parent?"
"This isn't exactly a normal pregnancy." Eden replied. "I'd be worried if you were totally fine. It's weird... I can feel it all happening at a million miles per hour."
"You can?" The Winchester frowned. "What does it feel like?"
"Sort of like..." Eden paused to think. "You know when you catch a fly in a jar? Well, it feels like my abdomen is the jar and the fetus and my hormones raging are the fly."
"Seriously?" Sam let out a small laugh.
"Here, feel." She placed her hand over his on her lower stomach and let some of her magic flow, encircling their hands with black smoke.
Sam gasped as his palm began to tingle, feeling exactly what she was talking about. It were as though a fly was trapped under her skin and was attacking his hand trying to find an escape route.
"That's so weird..." He scoffed through a smile. "A good weird though, I think."
"A good weird." Eden repeated, ceasing her magic. "Bets on what's going to happen when we get back to reality at the end of the week?"
Sam chuckled, adjusting himself a little underneath her.
"Not sure what Dean's going to do, but I can see earplugs needed for Willow's in-person reaction."
"Most definitely." Eden giggled. "You should probably wash before the bath water gets cold."
"You're probably right." Sam sighed. "Maybe a little while longer. This is nice."
