Family.

It was a concept that was all but foreign to Rebekah. She had never had a true chance at being happy with her brothers. All of them out for their own selfish gain whether they could see that fact or not. Her brother, Klaus, had been the main offender of ruining the shot at a family.

He had daggered them more times than she could count. Each time they stepped out of line, they received a silver dagger straight into the heart. Unluckily for her, she had been on the receiving end of that dagger more than any of her brothers, even though she had been the most loyal to her older brother. And she hated it.

She despised her brother at times. For his actions against her and her siblings. Deep down, the blonde vampire had always known that Klaus had the best intentions when he did so, at least for the most part. Some of the reasons seemed a little trivial compared to the others. She also knew that he never truly wanted to hurt them, but the prior day when she heard that her eldest brother Finn had fallen, she couldn't help but want to cling onto the brothers that still stood.

But Klaus seemed to have a different viewpoint.

She knew he was cruel and ruthless when it came to his enemies and that he was cold and emotionless when it came to his family. But hearing him say that he couldn't care less that Finn was dead, made her question things.

Then her friend Elliot spoke up.

And Rebekah considered giving her older brother another shot. After all, who wants to spend forever alone?

Maybe that's why she decided to come back to her brother's mansion the next morning. But instead of being met by her paranoid, power hungry brother, she was met by a very surprising sight.

~~~~~
"Blood hell." The blonde vampire whispered to herself. She was shocked to say the last about what she saw.
Her brother and Elliot were cuddled up on one of the many coaches in the mansion. Elliot's head rested on Klaus's chest, his head slightly resting upon her. One of his arms was wrapped around her side, pulling her closer towards him in almost a protective type manner. A blanket was tossed over the two of them, which completely covered the petite brunette and only partly her brother.
As shocked as she was, she was one, expecting it to happen, and two, she couldn't help but find it completely and utterly adorable. So as any sane person or vampire would do, Rebekah pulled her phone out from her pocket and snapped a photo of the two of them sleeping.
With a small, mischievous smile on her face, the blonde vampire then left to a different part of the mansion, leaving the two alone to sleep.
~~~~~

A little while later, Klaus and Elliot stirred awake. More like Elliot nestling further into the hybrid's embrace and comfort, coincidentally waking him up which then woke her up.

As soon as Klaus woke up, he immediately looked down at the women he had fallen asleep with, a soft smile on his face as he did so. It was surprising to both him and Elliot seeing as he was never one to show emotion outright, but apparently he did for her.

"Morning, love." His voice raspy and deep from having just woken up.

God damn, his morning voice!!! Inner Elliot was practically fangirling over it, while outer Elliot was scolding herself for thinking it.

A slight blush had made its way up to her cheeks as she realized the two of them were still very much entangled with each other. But then again, neither of them seemed to truly mind the fact that they were.

"Morning." She greeted him as she lifted her head off of his chest and untangled her legs from his. She then slipped out of his grip and sat upright on the couch, running her hand through her trying to get out any tangles that had formed. Much to her surprise, there had been none.

Also, much to her surprise, she had slept peacefully, not a nightmare of her past or her future intruding her mind the prior night.

Weird.

Elliot's blue eyes glanced around the room before they landed on her shoes. "Well, I should probably get going." Getting up from the couch, she grabbed her ankle boots off of the floor and pulled them onto her feet, only losing balance once.

Klaus nodded his head to Elliot's words, the feeling of not wanting her to leave confusing him greatly. Nonetheless, he brushed it off. After all, he vowed to never feel such things. Feelings were for the weak. Love made him weak.

And he didn't want to be weak. He wanted to be powerful.

But as Elliot was making her way out of the room, words escaped him before he could even process what he was saying. "Thank you."

Elliot halted in her steps, not bothering to turn around to look at him. "For what?" She questioned, genuinely confused by his words.

"For caring." His words were soft and low to the point where she barely even heard them.

But she did.

And with a small smile on her face she exited the mansion.

~~~~~
Don't think that! Elliot scolded herself as her fist collided with the punching bag.
She was at the gym...
What a surprise. Note the sarcasm. It was where she always went to work out her problems or battle of inner thoughts. Either that or Virginia's little coffee shop that she visited in the morning. But she preferred the gym. Taking her pent up aggression out physically always seemed to help her more than drowning herself in mass amounts of coffee.
He cares about you! Her inner thoughts continued to scream at her. She didn't want to believe it. Why would she?
From everything she had heard about Klaus, the Original Hybrid, made her not want to believe it was true. He was portrayed to be ruthless, power hungry, uncaring... the list could go on and on about all the terrible words that he was said to be. And Elliot had seen that side of him multiple times. Hell, it was the only side he really ever showed. But then again, the few times he had been around her recently he acted differently. It was shocking to see him act as an actual human being.
No he doesn't! She shouted back at herself. God, she didn't want to believe he did. Because if he did, she didn't know what that was going to mean. Did he care about her as in 'she's my little sister's friend' or 'she's a nice friend to have around' or the 'I hope we can be something more' type of ways?
She didn't know which one he saw it as, but she also knew which one she wanted it to be. And that's probably why she hated the fact so much.
With another final blow to the punching bag, it was sent soaring across the gym once more, sand spilling out of it until it collided with the wall that was directly in front of it.
A bitter laugh left her lips. She really needed to stop doing that. She didn't want to have to keep paying the gym for all the bags she ruined.
Elliot then turned around and grabbed another bag off of the ground. She then used her magic to attach it to the hook that hung from the ceiling, seeing as she was too short to reach it on her own. Then she continued her attack against it.
Maybe it would be easier if you just accepted your feelings.
Elliot rolled her eyes at the thought, before muttering to herself, "Yeah, yeah. Maybe it will be."
~~~~~

Rebekah had once again returned to her brother's mansion. This time a content smile was on her face after being driven home by her crush, Matt. It was the small acts of kindness that made her happy. She stood outside for just a moment, living in the peaceful moment before she entered the place.

The sound of a heartbeat is what brought her attention out of the happiness she was feeling. She assumed it must be that her brunette friend was still there, but when she followed the sound she saw that there was someone standing in front of the fireplace alone.

She tilted her head slightly when she noticed the person was much too tall to be Elliot. Elliot was way too small to remotely resemble anyone in this town.

Her smile began to fade from her face before it disappeared completely when she saw who it was. "Mother." She spat, speeding over to the woman who had raised her, grabbing her by the throat and slamming her against the wall.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you right now." The blonde seethed at the older woman with the utmost amount of hatred in her tone of voice.

It was almost chilling to hear such a venomous tone from her youngest daughter, but Esther paid no mind to it, wanting nothing more than to fulfill her plan.

"Because I'm dying."

~~~~~
Elliot was finally packing her stuff into the duffel bag she had brought with her to the gym.
She had worked through her problems...well, at least for the most part. She wasn't too keen on admitting the truth, so she sort of opted for ignoring it and just to let Klaus be Klaus and let him make the first move. If he did, then she would know how he felt. If he didn't, then she wouldn't have made a fool of herself saying anything about what was going on between them.
Either way, it was a win-win for her.
Her phone rang just as she slung the bag over her shoulder and was making her way out of the little establishment. She pulled it out of her jacket pocket, raising an eyebrow when she saw that the caller ID was Klaus, well her much more fun way of naming him: 'flea infested puppy'. It was then accompanied by a puppy and vampire emoticon next to it.
"Speak of the Devil." She mumbled, pressing the accept button.
"Hello, love."
Don't swoon over it. Don't swoon over it. She chanted to herself, before replying, "What can I do for you?"
"Can you meet me at the Salvatore House?" He questioned.
Elliot groaned, "If you insist." Her tone was almost mocking when she spoke to him.
"I do." His tone was just as mocking and playful in response to hers.
Elliot snorted, "Fine. I'll be there. Just give me a moment."
~~~~~

Just as promised, the brunette super soldier had made her way to the dreaded house. She had swung by her apartment to rinse off and change out of the clothes she had worn to the gym. She then sped over on her bike only to see Klaus waiting for her outside the place.

She skidded to a halt, before pulling off her helmet and getting off of it after kicking the stand out with her foot. Placing the helmet on one of the handles, she then made her way to the door where the hybrid was standing.

"So why'd I have to come here?" She questioned, annoyed.

"Would you believe me if I said it's because I enjoy your company?"

Before Elliot had a chance to respond to what he was saying, he had grabbed her hand and dragged her inside the house with him. The two then made their way down to the basement of the place where the cellar was.

Unbeknownst to either of them, they never let go of each other's hand, but had interlaced them together instead.

"Well, this is depressing, isn't it?"

Stefan turned his attention to where Klaus stood, standing up as he did so.

"Oh, we found this," Klaus said as Elliot held up the white oak stake with her free hand, "upstairs. Now, by my count, there should be one more."

"Yeah, well it's gonna take a little more time."

"Are you seriously waiting for the teacher to pass out?" Elliot questioned, tilting her head knowing that there were better methods to get the answers they needed. Not that she really condoned any of them.

Klaus nodded his head towards Elliot when he spoke. "She's right. I think I'll just kill him."

Stefan raised his eyebrows confused. Klaus never agreed with any one, that was something that everyone knew. But here he was agreeing with the woman that had bested him on prank night and multiple times later. It was rather peculiar.

At least it was until he saw their intertwined hands.

That explained it.

"Well, then you won't know the location of the other stake." He responded, smugly.

"I can live with that."

"Well, I can't. When we staked Finn, we discovered that killing an Original vampire killed its entire bloodline. Now, I don't know which one of you I'm descended from, but I'd rather not find out by dying, so why don't we just find the stak, destroy it, so we can all be safe?"

"So, the date of the entire vampire race depends on you finding a stake?" Klaus questioned. "And to get it we need you to pass out. Which means I totally feel justified doing this."

Before any of them registered what had happened, Klaus sped forward and snapped Alaric's neck. When Alaric fell to the floor with his neck bent in an odd position, Elliot blinked a few times not really liking the idea of killing the teacher. She then shrugged.

"There. Sleeping like a baby."

Klaus then once again grabbed the brunette's hand almost instinctively and they exited the cell and then the mansion entirely.

~~~~~
The sound of Klaus' phone ringing brought the mutant and the hybrid out of the peaceful silence that had fallen between them. Peaking over Klaus' shoulder, she noticed that his brother, Kol, was calling him.
"Brother! To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Damon Salvatore just killed me!"
Klaus couldn't help but chuckle at his younger brother's words, "And why would he do that?"
"For cozying up to Jeremy, per your orders."
Elliot looked up at Klaus, who seemed to be finding the utmost amusement from the situation, so she slammed her foot down on his foot, making him grunt in pain. Elliot grinned in triumph.
"Is someone there with you, Nik?"
"Hi, Kol!" Elliot chirped, making Klaus roll his eyes at her. He already knew what his brother was going to say about the little brunette being with him.
"Ohhhh! You're with Rebekah's little friend!" Kol exclaimed in between his laughter. "Do you fancy her or something?"
"I do-I don'-Oh! Sod off, Kol!" Klaus stumbled over his words before giving up. Elliot looked at the floor when Klaus looked down at her.
"Oh! You do! This is priceless!"
Klaus grumbled something incoherent in another language Elliot presumed, before changing the subject. "The Salvatores are looking for who sired their bloodline."
Kol groaned in annoyance, "Of course they are. Always looking for a bloody way to kill us."
"They figured they descended from Katherine, who was sired by Rose, and then little Gilbert figured out Rose was sired by Mary."
"Mary! I do remember her. The Original Groupie."
"You mustn't let them know who sired her."
"Didn't you?"
"I did." Klaus sighed, wishing he hadn't. "But if they know that, then they will attempt to kill the rest of you. And I refuse to let that happen."
"Getting all protective, are we now, Nik?"
Klaus rolled his eyes once more, not wanting to admit that he cared, "Just don't let Mary tell them. Don't let them find out." He then hung up the phone and looked down at Elliot.
"So you fancy me, huh?" She questioned with a cheeky smile, bumping shoulders with the hybrid.
Hearing those words from her mother made Rebekah. She hated her mother more than anything but she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness and confusion within all the anger.
"How are you dying? I thought Ayana preserved your body with a spell."
Esther internally smirked, knowing that her plan was working. "She did. I'm drawing power from the Bennet witch line. When Abby died the connection was severed. So my body has weakened." She explained.
"Well, if you've come to spend your last moments with your loving daughter, prepare to be disappointed. You should have spent less time plotting my death." Any amount of sadness the vampire had felt quickly disappeared.
"Is that what you think I've been doing on the other side?" Esther questioned, putting a small tone of hurt into her voice. If she was good at anything, it was manipulation. "I've been looking over you for a thousand years. Of joy and heartbreak. Your fights with Klaus, the nights you cried yourself to sleep calling out my name. Not a day has gone by that I wasn't right there with you."
"And yet you still tried to kill me."  Rebekah shot back.
"Because it shouldn't have been a thousand years, Rebekah. No one should live that long."
"But I haven't lived at all." The blonde cried out to her mother.
"I'm sorry, Rebekah. I'm so, so sorry."
Esther lurched forward and grabbed her daughter's hands. She then began to shake violently before her body fell to the ground lifeless. Rebekah knelt down next to her mother with a discouraged look on her face. The look soon turned into a smile as her lips curled upwards.
"What's going on?"
Rebekah whirled around, the smile falling into a deepened frown when she saw her brother with Elliot trailing behind him.
"She's dead."
"What a plot twist!!"
~~~~~

Elliot had ended up spending the whole day with Klaus after that. She had teased him a little more about 'fancier her' before letting it go. Luckily for the two of them, it didn't cause any awkward tension between the two.

Maybe more sexual tension but that could be solved later of they so pleased.

"That's a little gratuitous, don't you think, Stefan? I would have been more gentle." Klaus mused as he poured himself a drink.

"I'm gonna take him to the caves." Rebekah told her brother and then turned to Alaric. "You're gonna go inside and fetch me the stake and if you think you're going to hide, you're wrong." She then pushed Alaric towards the door rather forcefully. Elliot narrowed her eyes at her friend and her behavior. It seemed off.

Not wanting to listen to the petty little argument between Stefan and Klaus, Elliot made her way out of the boarding house as well and sent a message to her redhead best friend checking up on her, as well as replying to the messages that Bucky had sent her.

Moments later, she heard the door open to the Salvatore Boarding House and out walked Klaus, who immediately made his way over to the woman he had been spending his day with.

"What's troubling you, love?" He asked her, noticing the thoughtful yet downtrodden look on her face.

"Your sister is acting off." Elliot stated, bluntly. She then looked up towards him. "Haven't you noticed?"

Klaus shrugged, "She's probably just upset about her mother."

Elliot shook her head, brushing off her own thoughts, deciding not to trouble him with her suspicions about the blonde vampire. "Yeah...she probably is."

And that was going to be the beginning of her downfall.
