(Personal headcanon: Camilo is older than Mirabel by like a week. Just because I like the idea.)
There will be lots of time skips
Camilo PoV when Marbel's about to (not) get her gift.
"What will I get?! I'm so excited!" Mirabel yelled.
"Something cool! Just like mine!" I yelled.
"Yeah!" she yelled in agreement.
-time skip to after the door fades and party's over.
"Hey, Mirabel." I said sitting next to my cousin.
"Why didn't I get a gift?" she asked crying.
"I don't know." I said feelings helpless.
"Hey! I got an idea!" I said getting the coolest idea.
"Hmm?"
"I heard Abuela talk about something people would do a thing called protests. We should do one!"
"How?"
"Well, I'll just threaten them saying I won't use my powers until they give you one!"
"Will it work?"
"I don't know. But you are basically my twin so we should both have gifts!"
"Yeah!"
We intertwined our pinkies and nodded.
-time skip like 2 weeks and they are still strong in their pinky promise-
"What's wrong with you Camilo?" Abuela asked worried. "You haven't used your powers since Mirabel didn't get one. Your powers aren't stopping, right?"
"Nope. I'm protesting until Mirabel gets her gift!"
"That's what it is?"
"Yup! No one hurts my twin like that!"
"You arn't twins. You were born a week before her. You both know that. Plus Mirabel has different parents then you."
"But-"
"You shouldn't let her drag you down."
"She's not!"
"Really?"
"Yeah!"
And with that she walked away. We hadn't spoken until dinner time.
"So, I think we should change our seating arrangements." Abuela said looking at everyone.
"Change? Why?" Isabela asked
"Don't worry, I'll just be moving one person. Camilo, I think you should sit in between your father and sister."
"Why? I-"
"It's for the best. Now go. That's where you'll be sitting from now on."
The floors immediately moved my seat in between Dolores and Papa.
"But I want to sit next to Mirabel!" I wined.
"Yes, but it would be better for you to get closer to your sister. End of discussion."
I closed my mouth knowing I'll get in trouble if I argue with her any further.
-More time skips about a month-
"Abuela! Abuela! I can help you!" I said feeling myself tear up. She hadn't spoken to me since she changed my seat. I don't know what I did wrong. Luisa was hanging some banners up high, but struggling to do it herself.
"If only we had another Luisa." Abuela mumbled. "Then we can get everything ready." She looked at me then shook her head, "No, he's not useful."
I felt my heart sink. I wasn't useful. I was useless. But... Luisa was useful and if I was Luisa I could be useful. And Abuela would love me again! I turned into Luisa and helped her with the banners.
"Thank you for helping her Camilo." Abuela said to me smiling. "See, your gift is amazing. It allows you to help people and the community. That's what the gift does."
"So, I'm good?" I asked her.
"Well, when you use your power for good. You are good. But when you don't use your power you are making things harder for people who could use your help."
"Oh. Alright! I'll be good!" I said. I really want to make Abuela happy.
