Surprisingly Matteo ran to a small town up in Poland. He did nothing but run as fast as his speed could take him. All Matteo kept on thinking about was that Hydra was after him and how he was going to get taken back for more experiments. So Matteo just ran and ran.
Right when Matteo finally came to a stop he ran to a abandoned home and hoped that there would be clothes and bandages. As Matteo entered the home he quickly made his way over to a bathroom to get him cleaned up. "P-please work please work.." Matteo mumbled along with him catching his breath. As he turned on the water faucet he let out a sigh or relief when he seen the water run. Matteo soon and quickly looked around the bathroom for any aiding for him to get his cuts bandaged.
Luckily for Matteo he found a first aid kit. He soon took off his clothes and looked down his body. He furrowed his eyebrows and seen his body with cuts and bruises on them along with new burns from the explosion. He then seen the glass shards in his arms which he knew that would be hell to take out. And yet to his surprise he wasn't crying, even though he may be 9 years old he didn't cry. He didn't find the need to cry, he closed his eyes tightly before he went ahead and started to get started on taking out the glass and clean up.
With Steve and Sam
Sam went up to Steve and Sharon in a hurry, he then butted into their conversation. "Steve. You need to see this." Sam stated as he looked at them with worry on his face. The three of them made it into a room and had the news on. Sharon was making calls for her working duty while Sam and Steve watched the news.
"A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead including including Wakanda's King T'Chaka and Avengers Matteo Maximoff." The news man stated.
Sam looked down with a painful sad look on his face when Matteo's name was brought up. Sam then looked over at Steve when the tv said "James Buchanan Barnes." Sam seen the his sad yet intense glare at the tv. All sam and Steve did was look at the tv, yet deep down both the men in the room felt a painful sad part of them get ripped away knowing that Matteo was gone. Sharon then walked up in between then and sighed "I have to get back to work." She stated as she looked at the tv.
With Natasha
Natasha was looking around desperately for Matteo. She couldn't find him anywhere. She assumed worse when Firefighters told her that they will find him. But then Pool I've officers and other people said to her that he's gone and that he was on the ground close to the explosion happened. Nat felt a wave of guilt was over her, she just lost Matteo due to her bringing him along to the signing. She held in her emotions and kept them in check as she went over to go sit on the bench.
As Natasha sat on the bench she looked over and seen Prince T'Challa sitting on the next bench over with sadness all over his face. Nat took in a shaky breath before she looked over at him "I'm sorry.." she said as she looked over at the sad young man. T'Challa looked over and Nat with his sad eyes "I'm sorry for yours too." He said as he looked down at the ring in his hands. Nat just swallowed the lump in her throat and looked down. She and T'Challa where both talking before the Prince got up and left leaving Nat alone.
Nat then felt her phone buzzing she looked down and answered the phone. "Hello?" She answered. "You alright?" Steve asked over the phone. "Yeah thanks I got lucky.." she said "I heard about Matteo." Steve said sadly. "Yeah..it's all my fault.. I should have never brought him along.." Nat said as she felt the tears start to form. "It's not your fault. It's no one's fault." Steve stated. "What am I gonna tell Wanda.." Nat said as. "I'm pretty sure Vision will help her keep in check. Let's just hope she hasn't found out." Steve stated. Nat then heard sirens in the background of Steve's side of the call. "Steve stay home. I know Barnes is your friend but you don't want to make things worse." Nat stated as she got up from the seat completely pushing down her feelings and emotions. "You saying you'll arrest me?" Steve asked. "No but someone will." Nat stated as she looked around. "I gotta go." Steve said as he then hung up. Nat sighed and looked around before she went along to go get cleaned and freshened up.
With Vision and Wanda
Vision was trying to cook Paprikash for Wanda. He found out about the News about Matteo right when Tony got to Vienna to pick him up and bring him back to the compound. Wanda was expecting to see her brother again soon but she didn't know how long it would be. All she had to do was wait.
Vision was cooking the food so he could at least have Wanda in a good mood and not have to worry about anything. He didn't want her to find out about Matteo yet. He needed to find a way to tell her without making he loose control of her powers just like she did when Pietro died. But Vision was a bit confused about when Matteo died. He would have felt him, during the moment when he was looking up the recipe for Paprikash he felt Matteo's feeling. Vision felt Matteo's fear and sadness, but the main thing he felt was the pain he was in and as if he was just pushing down.
Even now Vision can feel Matteo's feelings, he was really confused. He felt Matteo's stress and his fear. He didn't understand since according to the media and everyone else he was announced dead. But the one thing that everyone had said was that they didn't find his body all they said was that he was on the ground right where it happened. Vision was just probably thinking the stone was messing up or glitching even, since it would make a lot of sense for Matteo to be dead. Vision just shook off the thoughts and cleared us head as he followed the cooking recipe.
Small time skip
Wanda was on her way out to go get Paprika from the store. Vision quickly phased through the kitchen island and stood in front of Wanda. "Or we could just order a pizza." Vision said to Wanda as he looked at her to try to make her stay. "Vision. Are you not letting me leave." Wanda asked as she looked up at him. "It's a question of safety." Vision said as he looked down. "I can protect myself." Wanda said as she tried to walk past him. "Not your safety. Mr. Stark would like to avoid anymore proper harm. Until the accords are over." Vision said as he looked at Wanda. Wanda then looked up at Vision "Then what do you want." Wanda asked as she tilted her head a little bit. "For people to see you for the way I do." Vision said as he looked into her eyes.
Wanda just sighed and walked past him "I'm just going to go and wait for Matteo to come back." Wanda said as she started to walk to her room. Vision took did a deep sigh before he looked over at the tried attempt into him making Paprikash. He then thought about how Matteo would help him in the kitchen every morning so he can eat. Vision smiled at the little memory before he cleaned up and when ahead to go order pizza for Wanda.
With Matteo
Matteo got finished cleaning up his wounds. He did a shaky breath as he looked down at his body that was now covered in a lot of bandages. He knew how to treat his cuts since he always watched Wanda or Nat clean up his cuts and bandaged them. Now for his burns all Matteo did was just leave them, he knew that it was going to be a bad idea but he didn't have the special cream that Tony gave him. So Matteo just left the burns be.
The young boy then looked down at his torn and tattered up nice clothes before he sighed. "I wonder if this place has any clothes for me.." Matteo said to himself as he then decided to go ahead and look around for any clothes that he can wear. To the young boys surprise he found a sweatpants that fitted him along with a shirt that had a few holes in it. He didn't mind though, he then found a jacket that was a bit big on him but he wore it. Matteo then decided to just leave this abandoned home and go out to go get some food. He knew this was going to be his best perk since he was going to be just like his older brother in the past. Which was be 'sneaky and fast. And to not get caught.' So the young boy went out into the town to get some food and be the young Pietro Jr he was.
A couple hours later
With Steve and Tony
They both had their talk about the whole whole accords and the responsibility of what Steve broke. Now they where talking about Wanda and Matteo.
"Matteo should have stayed put back at the compound with Wanda. He never deserved to die along the stupid bombing." Tony said as he sat down and looked at Steve. "He should have stayed. He shouldn't have never been apart of this Accords. He was only 9 years old." Steve said as she shook his head. Both the men went quiet before Tony piped up. "Yeah.. well I'm for sure as hell going to miss that little speedy jr. He was a chummy kid." Tony said as he sighed. "Wanda what about Wanda? Does she know about Matteo?" Steve asked Tony.
"Oh no she doesn't know. Vision is going to tell her soon though. And hopefully in a not so sad way." Tony stated. Steve waited for him to go on. "And shes fine. She's in the compound confined and Vision is keeping her company as I said earlier." Tony said. "Oh god Tony! Every time. Every time when I think your doing good." Steve went on. "It has a lap pool, and a screening room it's the best place to be there for protection." Tony stated. "Protection. Is this how you see it?" Steve went off on him. "She's not a US Citizen along with Matteo if he was still around!" Tony yelled out. "She's a kid! And he was younger!" Steve yelled out. "GIVE ME A BREAK!" Tony yelled out as he sighed. Steve just glared at him before he put the pen down "I hated to break up the set." Steve said as he then walk off leaving Tony alone.
With Matteo
Matteo was now sitting against outside a building in a town eating a loaf of bread along with an apple and a small water bottle he snatched from the town an hour away. As he ate he watched as people walked by he seen some people look at him but all the little Maximoff did was sit there and eat. Once it got to the point of people just staring at him he put the hood on from the big jacket he was wearing and just continued to finish up his food.
After Matteo was done eating he threw away his trash and walked along the busy city. As he was walking he stopped at a outside sitting restaurant and seen the news playing on the tv. He heard how the King of Wakanda died during the bombing and how apparently he was dead. Once he seen and heard that he seen a very blurry photo of him pop up next to the King of Wakandas photo show up on the screen. Matteo just watched as all of the sudden the tv switched over to breaking news. Matteo furrowed his eyebrows before he listened in. "James Buchanan Barnes was a suspected victim of who set the bomb in the van which Killed King of Wakanda and Avengers Matteo Maximoff. He was captured today along side of Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. But the three of them escaped custody and now we are on a full search to find them. If you see these three men call right away." The news reported stated.
Matteo took a deep breath in before he looked down. He then looked around and seen people just walking off minding their own business. But I'm that moment Matteo felt as if the whole world was watching him and his very last moments. Matteo soon looked down at the cut on his hand from when The Winter Soldier or Snowy cut him with a knife when they where training.
Flashback
A 5 year old Matteo was dodging and avoiding The Winter Soldier from cutting him and killing him. The young boy was very quick on his feet and moved around fast dodging Snowys lunges to cut him. Right when Matteo saw the perfect opportunity he slapped the knife out of his hands. The young boy took a deep breath and tried to catch his breath. He soon looked down at his hands and palms with a smile as finally had the accomplished feeling rise within him.
Right when Matteo had his guard completely down Snowy quickly grabbed the knife and sliced the back of Matteo's hand. Matteo did a loud yelp as he then looked at snowy with a terrified look. Right when matteo looked at snowy, snowy then punched the boy to the ground. But he didn't do it that hard. Matteo let out a little sniffle as he held his hand. Snowy sighed and bent down to the young toddlers level. "(I'm sorry. But you need to not keep your guard down. I had to do that so then you or I don't get hurt by them again. I'm sorry little snowflake.)" snowy said to the young boy as he helped him up. Matteo sniffled and looked at snowy "(oh ok..sowwy.. wait.. 'snowfwake?')" Matteo asked as he looked at snowy with a little smile at how he finally gave him a nickname besides his name or number. "(Don't think much of it. Now come on let's go get you bandaged up. Where done here for today Snowflake.)" Snowy said as he walked off. Matteo followed him with a small smile "(otay!)" he said as he followed snowy back to his cell.
End of flashback
Matteo smiled at the little memory before he went on to go walk off into the town. "(Snowy wouldn't have hurt me. Nor anyone else.. he wasn't the one to set that bomb off.. he couldn't have..)" Matteo talked to himself as he walked off out of town and over into a park. "(Something isn't right..don't worry Snowy I will help you.. but for now.. I have to find a way to get back to mama..)" Matteo said sadly as he sat down in the park looking off into the nature.
