Guide:
(Y/N): Your Name
Because of your sudden leave when Fred asked you about the pool party, he decided to give it a couple days before you made up your mind. But he didn't expect to receive his response so soon.
That same evening after you and Tadashi parted, you called Fred up. He picked up on the first ring.
"(Y/N)! Great to hear from you!" Fred cried into the mouthpiece.
"Hey Fred," you smiled. "Look, I'm sorry for running away from you and everyone else like that. It's kind of rude, and--"
"Nah, it's okay," Fred said in a relaxed fashion, putting the magazine he was reading down. "Sometimes we just need a moment to think about it. Was there something you were scared about?"
"Well...it involves me telling a secret," you simply stated. "I mean, Tadashi already knows it now--"
"Wait. Tadashi knows a secret that you won't tell anyone else?!"
"He just knew," you corrected him. "But anyway, that would involve you changing the venue. You won't mind making your get-together thing at the beach now, don't you?"
"The beach!" Fred was grinning from ear to ear now, though you couldn't see his reaction. "(Y/N), why didn't I think of that? That would be awesome! Just hang on the shores with some awesome music, and then surf the waves or whatever...that sounds pretty sweet."
"Yeah, but I guess...that's where I have to spill my secret," you said. "So far, only Tadashi knows. But I promise that when the time comes, you and the rest of the group will know. Wait, is it just us?"
"Yep," Fred confirmed. "Just me, Wasabi, Gogo, Honey, Tadashi, and Hiro. And you, of course. That's it. Though I don't know if Tadashi's bringing Baymax."
"I doubt it," you said. "But sure. Seven of us won't be too big of a crowd. Though I need you to promise me that once you know the secret, you won't tell anyone about it. I mean, like when you all know, you won't scream it to the world or something."
"Count on it," Fred promised you. "I'll tell Hiro, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Gogo tomorrow. Though I don't know if Tadashi's already told Hiro."
"I told him not to," you assured him.
"Oooookay," he said. "So you've got a secret that we honestly shouldn't tell anyone?"
"Please, Fred," you begged.
"Okay then," Fred grinned. "So I'll see you tomorrow at school?"
"Yep. See you then."
The two of you hung up and you laid in bed, feeling significantly better. You managed to get Tadashi believe you, though he did seem pretty freaked out at first. How would everyone else react? Would they still treat you the same, or would they start dumping water all over you in hopes of making you a subject of public humiliation? You hoped the latter didn't happen.
Soon you felt fatigue overtake you, and you fell asleep, the last thing on your mind being the saltwater kiss that you and Tadashi shared--your first kiss, your first kiss ever, and that HAD to happen after you spilled your secret. Though to be honest, it wasn't that bad.
You secretly wished for more.

Fred's get-together was actually on a very warm Saturday evening when everyone was able to show up and get down on the sand and sea. Excitement was in the air as you were picked up by Honey Lemon and Gogo in a fancy convertible, the radio turned up loud for everyone to hear "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars blasting from the speakers in the car.
"So (Y/N), I heard you have a secret to spill," Honey Lemon proceeded to tell you. "What is it about?"
"Oh get over it, Honey Lemon," Gogo said roughly. "She's afraid of water. Why else would she be so freaked out and tense?"
"I'm not tense!" you protested. "But you're right, I'm freaked out."
"But why?" Honey Lemon pressed you. "And are you scared of water at all?"
You shook your head. "It's something...more on the opposite side."
The silence that rang in the car--other than Bruno Mars's singing--lasted longer than you imagined.
"So I assume, (Y/N), that you love the water, yet you're freaked out." Gogo sighed as she popped a bubble she blew from her gum. "Spill it. What is it?"
"I'll tell you when we get there, and when the time comes. I promise."
Honey Lemon and Gogo both nodded, eventually leaving you alone as the scenery passed by, until you got to the beach--the same beach where Tadashi found out your secret. Together, you all unpacked your bags from the trunk and headed over, where Fred already had his boombox playing some classic surfing tunes, while you saw Wasabi and Hiro chatting about random things. You caught sight of Tadashi and waved to him, and he waved back as he approached you.
"Hey (Y/N)," he called, running over as he helped you carry one of Honey Lemon's big bags. "Wow. You look pretty."
You just blushed. All you were wearing was a simple dark blue t-shirt and white knee-length shorts with beige sandals, your hair let loose and floating in the wind.
"Thanks," you simply said, beaming, knowing that Tadashi must have been thinking about your tail as well. Somehow, you had to break it to the others. You just need to figure out the right time to do so.
"(Y/N)! Thank goodness you could make it!" Fred cried as he gave you a hug.
"Yeah," you nodded. "Glad I could make it."
"Hey (Y/N)!" Hiro called over to you, and you waved at him.
Hiro then came over to you. "Apparently Tadashi told me to make more of those devices that could let us breathe underwater, but yet you don't need one. Just assuming though, you might have had a rough history with the water, right?"
You sighed. How come everyone thought you had a fear for water?
"Well, not really," you said patiently. "I'll tell you later."
Soon, everyone gathered round for a picnic on the sand. Fred and Wasabi both whipped up some huge club sandwiches, and Tadashi and Hiro brought Aunt Cass's signature spicy hot wings, while you decided to top that huge meal off with some light lemon meringue pie that you made yourself. The whole gang dug in and enjoyed themselves, and you couldn't help but smile along with them too. Then you got up and dusted yourself off, taking off your sandals.
"Hey guys?" You cleared your throat. "I have something to confess."
"You already kissed him!" Hiro cried, which made the whole gang laugh. Tadashi turned beet red and glared at him. But you just frowned.
"Well yeah, we did," you said. "But that's not what I wanted to say. Apparently you all thought since Fred told you about tonight's get-together that I was scared of water, which was apparently a very weird assumption. Let me get this to you straight off the bat--I'm not scared of water. It's what the water does to me that might frighten you. Before we do anything, put on those devices that Hiro created for you. They may come in handy."
The whole gang put them on with curiosity, and when they were you done you brought them over to the turf.
"The reason why I don't need that is because...well, partly because, I can already breathe underwater. But that's not the most important thing. Follow me."
The gang followed you into the water, then you took a deep breath and dove in. Everyone followed suit as they swam right after you. Then they gasped as your legs became a tail, and your t-shirt became a black tank top.
"Holy..." Fred murmured, shocked as the bubbles escaped from his mouth. "That's what you don't want us to know?!"
"(Y/N), that tail is amazing!" Honey Lemon cried. "Seriously, it looks out of this world!"
"Looks good on you," Hiro remarked, nodding in approval. "Love the colour."
"Seriously?" Gogo looked at you in complete admiration. "This is what you've been hiding? You got me worried, (Y/N)! I really thought you were afraid of water!"
"Hydrophobia, me?" You laughed. "Why else would I study hydrotechnology at SFIT?"
"What exactly is going on here?" Wasabi asked. "I'm confused. Why is there a mermaid talking to us now?"
"Wasabi, it's (Y/N)," Tadashi told him calmly. "She's part mermaid." Then he explained the entire thing, and he remembered everything so you didn't have to add anything.
"So...what can you do with that tail of yours?" Honey Lemon asked. "Oh oh oh! I have an idea. Let's pretend we're like, um, your back up dancers and you could totally sing something like 'Part of Your World' or something! That would be awesome!"
You sighed and rolled your eyes, suppressing a giggle. "Honey Lemon, you know I don't really sing."
"But mermaids are good at that, aren't they?" Honey Lemon asked.
"Well..."
"Come on, (Y/N)!"
Now you laughed as a school of fished passed by you, encircling you with their silvery bodies. "Maybe another time, Honey Lemon. Thanks for that suggestion."
"What is there to see down here?" Hiro asked you.
"I'll show you," you said. "Follow me."
Tadashi half-expected you to take them to the same places where you first lead him, but this time you went down a different path to a beautiful cave filled with different rock formations.
"Whoa! I could totally fit all of my mascot suits in there!" Fred cried as he swam towards the rocks, eyeing them closely. "Whoa."
"Fred! Are you sure that's safe?" Gogo yelled.
"Should be!"
"They are," you laughed. "Go on. Explore all you like. It's one of my favourite caves to just rest if I get tired of swimming."
And that was what the group did as they looked around, their eyes in awe.
"Hey guys!" Tadashi cried, pointing at a huge open oyster near the end of the cave.
You decided to swim over to him with the rest of the group as he held up a golden pendant inlaid with a pearl. "Man. Must be some kind of treasure over here."
"Seriously, are we all going 'Little Mermaid' here?" Gogo groaned.
"Come on, Gogo, you got to loosen things up! (Y/N)'s a mermaid, and I think we're all living a mermaid's tale!" Honey Lemon said enthusiastically.
"Well...maybe," you said. "I mean, I never thought about seeing sunken ships around here."
What surprised you was that Tadashi looped the necklace around your neck. "For you," he smiled.
You smiled back as you took his hand and squeezed it. "Thanks."
"FOUND IT!" you heard Fred cry.
You all swam out of the cave to see Fred off to one side, staring at a huge ship.
"Whoa," you breathed. "I've never been around here before."
"Well it wouldn't hurt to explore!" Fred exclaimed. "Come on!"
Everyone but you, Wasabi, and Tadashi went in.
"I'm scared," Wasabi admitted right off the bat.
"Don't worry, Wasabi," you assured him. "If there are sharks, I can take this."
Tadashi took your hand. "Then we all trust you, okay? Get us out alive."
"That's a promise," you said firmly, before you all swam in after your friends.
You found them poring through interesting treasures somewhere in the ship, though where, you weren't too sure. It seemed that there were so many treasure chests around, none of them could resist.
"How does this scepter look?" Hiro asked, holding it up. "Man! I feel like a king with this thing."
"Ooh, this necklace looks becoming," Honey Lemon said in awe.
A gold coin--a doubloon, they probably call it--caught Gogo's eye, and she pocketed it. "Probably not a good addition to my bike, but hey, this actually rolls pretty fast on its own."
You picked off a clear white crystal about the size of your palm that sparkled in different colours of the rainbow, and handed that to Tadashi. "For you," you repeated his words.
"Wow," Tadashi murmured. "Thanks, (Y/N)."
You smiled as you threw your arms around him.
"Um, guys?" Wasabi spoke up quietly. "Guys?"
"What's up?" Gogo asked. "And don't even say--"
"SHARK!"
Wasabi's scream echoed across the entire chamber, and everyone hid behind you.
"Wait, what are you hiding behind me for?" you asked.
"You know how to handle him!" Tadashi cried. "You promised you'd protect us."
The shark approached the ship, slowly, and you quickly took a look at his face. His eyes bore a stern expression, like any moment he would find a kill and eat it up without showing any mercy.
"This is one tough shark," you murmured. "Guys, I want you to evacuate back to the cave. I can handle this."
"(Y/N), no!" Tadashi cried. "I can't lose you."
"Tadashi, I can handle this," you repeated. "Don't worry. Just go."
Reluctantly, Tadashi swam away with the rest of the group as they took their treasures. You made a mental note to yourself to get something for Fred and Wasabi.
You faced the shark, who quickly sensed your presence and attacked. Quickly, you grabbed a sword from a nearby trunk and turned back to him, pointing your sword at his nostril.
"Oh you want some?" you sneered.
The shark lurched right towards you with snapping jaws, and you quickly attacked back, slicing your sword through the water, cursing yourself for the sword to move so slow in water. Then it hit you. You quickly grabbed a long thick chain lying on the ground and ducked as the shark came your way, then you swam over and around the shark's body, tying the body tight with the chain and tying it down to an anchor, which you stuck in the floor of the ship. The shark roared, but you wasted no time in stabbing the shark with your sword, causing it to die off very quickly.
"Whoa," Tadashi murmured. "I didn't know she could be that bad-ass."
"Language, Tadashi," Hiro muttered to his brother.
Tadashi laughed. "Seriously, Hiro."
Meanwhile, you looked around to find something for Fred and Wasabi. Eventually you settled on an emerald amulet for Fred and a pirate's scarf for Wasabi. You were just about to head off when you saw the shark again. A single tooth has fallen from its jaw to the floor while you were fighting it.
Hesitantly, you picked that up as well and held it in your fist while you swam back to the rest of the group, your tail covered in shark's blood. The rest of the group were stunned when you returned.
"(Y/N)! Your tail!" Tadashi cried.
"It's shark's blood. Don't worry, it'll wash itself out," you assured him. Then you presented your gifts from the shipwreck to Fred and Wasabi.
"Dang! That looks pretty sweet!" Fred cried, putting it on. "Now I feel pretty awesome."
"Thanks, (Y/N)!" Wasabi cried as he tied the scarf around his head.
"Wait, there's one more thing," you said, holding up your fist to reveal the shark tooth.
"Wait a second," Honey Lemon said, peering closer at it. "Oh my god! I know this shark! It's a great white, deadliest to the whole world! Thank goodness you made us clear out, (Y/N). We would have been shark chow for sure!"
You laughed. "Don't mention it. I might add this to the pendant Tadashi gave me."
Everyone laughed now as they marveled with their treasures. You swam over to Tadashi, who was grinning at you.
"That was something!" he cried, pulling you into a hug. "Thanks for saving our lives."
You chuckled. "You're welcome," you said, pulling away and staring into his eyes. Then you felt it--no, you weren't turning back into human.
Tadashi kissed you again, softly, but it felt dense with the water. Hunger overtook as you kissed back, adrenaline rushing from your fins to your head as you played with the hair on his head, your eyes shut. It soon dawned on you both that you have never kissed underwater before...and for all you know, it was pretty worth it.
"Awwwww!"
"EWWW!!"
SNAP!
You and Tadashi turned around to see your friends staring at you with mixed emotions.
"Get a room!" Hiro cried, covering his eyes.
You laughed. "Come on, Hiro. Don't get too upset."
Everyone else laughed as well, and you smiled.
"Come on," you said. "I want to show you one more thing."
You lead them to the same clearing where you and Tadashi first met the dolphins.
"Are they harmless?" Wasabi asked.
"Chill out, they are," you assured him.
"Aww, they are so cute!" Honey Lemon squealed as a baby dolphin approached her.
"I've always wanted to see a dolphin up close," Gogo admitted, smiling as she petted another dolphin's snout."
"Watch this," you said, giving a shrill whistle as the dolphins performed their routine, wowing everyone in the group with "oohs" and "ahhs". Then you rose up to surface and everyone followed suit, gasping at the sunset.
"Whoa, is it that late already?" Fred asked in wonder. "Whatever the case is, this looks amazing."
You smiled as you felt Tadashi inch closer to you, taking your hand as you all watched the dolphins leap in the air and swim beneath you, chittering away.
"I have to say, that was magical," he smiled. "And you see? They didn't see you as a freak."
You smiled back. "All they just have to do is keep it."
Afterwards, you all trooped back to the beach, and upon the return of your legs you helped the group pack up again.
"You should totally bring us back some time soon!" Honey Lemon squealed. "That was amazing!"
"I agree," Gogo nodded. "And don't worry, we'll be the only ones who know."
"Thanks, guys," you smiled, grabbing your backpack and racing to Honey Lemon's car, but not before giving Tadashi one more kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for everything," you whispered.
Tadashi tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. "No, (Y/N). Thank you for everything."

You were surprised when you left the lab the next day to see Tadashi already on his moped and heading towards the beach. Hmm. What would he want to do there?
You hitched your backpack up and ran after him, not stopping once to catch your breath. When at last you reached the beach, you panted, looking at Tadashi who just looked out on the horizon with a wistful look.
"Hey," you spoke up, approaching him.
"Hey (Y/N)," he said as he turned back and smiled at you.
You joined him at the turf now, the waves lapping over both of your feet. "What are you thinking about?"
"That day when you were scared to tell me you were part mermaid," Tadashi whispered. "Why were you so shy?"
"I...well, I just didn't know what people would think," you said. "It's not normal for people around here to sprout fish tails every time they enter the water now, don't you think?"
Tadashi chuckled. "Well, yeah, I guess. But you're special." Then a mischievous glint flashed through his eye. "Hey, maybe that's how we should spend our time every day. You and me, or maybe with the gang sometimes, underwater. That would be pretty cool."
"I can't wait," you eventually said, taking off your shoes. "You want to go now?"
"Why not?"
Tadashi grinned sloppily as he kissed you again. "I love you, (Y/N)."
"I love you too, Tadashi," you murmured as you let go, gently scrunching the hair on the back of his head. "Now let's go."
You dove in once more, Tadashi right behind you with the device on his body, ready to take on a new adventure under the sea.
