Zeldris was beginning to get restless so he went out to a town not too far away from where they were. When he got there he noticed that the sins were there, but so was someone he recognised just from her magic, Selena. 'Why is she here of all places?' he wondered to himself. He flew down to the ground and began to think. He wanted to meet her in person but the sins being there might pose a challenge. He then remembered a charm he had never had the motivation to use. An illusion charm, it made him look like anyone he wanted as long as he wore it. He used it to make himself look like a regular human. Zeldris spoke the incantation to activate the charm, making his dark hair turn red, and his outfit looked more like something the villagers wore, the one thing that stayed was his eyes and even those turned to their regular green color, he hoped she would recognise that it was him by his eyes and not be as frightened. He walked into town and quickly found Selena eating something while watching some kind of performance. He walked up to her. "Hello, is this spot taken?" he asked, knowing it most likely wasn't, since she was sitting on a wall. Selena looked over and shook her head, Zeldris smiled, "Well would you mind if I sat here?" Selena gave him a look he couldn't quite decipher but then nodded. He sat by her and tried to watch the performance but he was distracted by Selena.
Selena kept looking over to the boy next to her occasionally, something about him felt familiar. She hadn't really gotten a good look at him though so she wasn't sure how she would know him. Once she was sure he was looking at the performers, she turned her head a bit and finally got a good look at him. He had red spiky looking hair, a red shirt, white pants, but those things weren't what surprised her. His eyes looked like Zeldris's eyes, just green instead of purple. "Zeldris?!" she whispered in surprise. The boy smiled and turned to look at her, "I thought you would never recognise me at that rate, but yes firefly it's me." he said with a laugh. Selena jumped onto Zeldris wrapping him in a tight hug, fighting her urge to purr in happiness. "I missed you Zeldris, how about we go somewhere more private to talk though?" she asked, still not releasing him from her grip. Zeldris laughed, "Sure, but you might need to let go so I can get up." Selena finally released him from her hug. The two got up and walked to a nearby hill with a meadow overlooking the town. Selena looked up at the stars then back at Zeldris with a mischievous look in her eyes. Before he could stop her Selena had pulled him to the ground and laid down beside him. He laughed as he sat up. "What was that for?" Selena smiled at him, "Just because I thought it would be funny and I wanted to see if I could actually pull you down here." Selena said as she looked up at the stars and smiled. "Besides, this is a great star gazing spot." she said with a smirk. Zeldris looked up at the stars and back at her, "Yes, I suppose they are beautiful. But I think there's something here that rivales that beauty." he responded. Selena looked over to him confused, "What is that?" she asked. As he saw the confusion and curiosity in her gaze, something about it made his heart melt. "You, what else? As far as I'm concerned you're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." he said as he laid on his side and brushed Selena's hair out of her face so he could see both of her eyes instead of just the one she always showed. Selena blushed and tried to hide her face in the crook of his neck. Zeldris gave a small chuckle, 'So cute.' he thought. Zeldris felt her magic and noticed that it felt different so he decided to ask her about it later to make sure she was safe.
A bit later Zeldris looked down at Selena, finally deciding to ask her what was going on with her. "Selena, what's been up with you the past few days? How come you were sleeping so much, and what's up with your magic?" Selena flinched at his questions, but she didn't want to lie to him. She took a steadying breath. "If I tell you, you have to promise me you won't leave me alone." she said, her voice shaking as she attempted to hide her tears that were beginning to form. Zeldris was surprised but agreed, gently wiping her tears. "Since I was little, the new moon has always been a problem for me, because my powers are at their most difficult to control. But also thanks to the curse the Demon King put on me it's also like my own body is trying to kill me every new moon. The only way to get any real relief is to sleep, but that has its own dangers unless I take a special potion to keep the curse at bay." Selena looked down at the ground, scared to look Zeldris in the eye. All of a sudden she was lifted onto Zeldris's lap and engulfed in a hug. Selena was very surprised but she didn't mind and even began to nuzzle her head against his chest and neck. "That's awful, how could he have done something so horrible to you?!" Zeldris exclaimed. Selena cuddled into Zeldris more and began to speak. "He did it as punishment for our dad betraying him by falling in love with our mother, or something." Selena said as tears began to form once more. Zeldris closed his eyes and let out a soft sigh, "You don't have to tell me anything about them if you don't want to, but I hope that you can trust me with whatever troubles you." Zeldris said as he held Selena close. Selena smiled softly as she nuzzled Zeldris, " I do trust you Zeldy, it's just hard sometimes to talk about my mom and dad, but you deserve to know. When they first met they were always either busy in the battlefield or helping heal those who were hurt. Whenever they met, it was as if the heavens themselves ceased to matter. Eventually they decided to be together, forever. When the Demon King and Supreme Deity found out, they were furious. They cursed us as a means to make our parents suffer." Selena replied sleepily. Zeldris held Selena closer to him, not understanding why but he wanted to protect this girl from all the pain and anguish the world was putting her through until his last breath.
The two stayed that way until the first rays of sun began to show over the horizon. Selena and Zeldris headed towards the boar hut, and before Zeldris could be spotted they said their goodbyes and Zeldris flew away towards his hideout. When Zeldris got back he sought out his brother Estorossa. "What's up little brother?" Estarossa asked lazily. Zeldris thought for a moment and then spoke, "I just met an amazing girl in one of the villages, but I don't know what to do. She isn't like us." Zeldris let out a small sigh as he looked back at his brother. Estarossa raised an eyebrow, "Not like us? You mean that she's not a demon?" he asked curiously. Zeldris nodded. Estarossa chuckled a bit, "As long she can take care of herself she should be fine. If you're so worried just get together with her or stay away from her, you're call little brother." Zeldris began to turn a slight pink at what his brother was insinuating, "Even if I did love her, what makes you think she would want someone like me." Zeldris said as he tried to defend himself from the accusation, though it looked like Estarossa didn't believe him, and went to check on the others. Melascula and Gallant were off in a corner doing who knows what, Drole and Gloxinia were talking to eachother, Grayroad was sulking in an area by herself, and Fraudrin, Derieri, and Monspeet were playing some dumb game he never bothered to learn. Zeldris went outside to be by himself for a while and think about what his brother said. 'Do I love her? I haven't loved anyone like this in so long. What if I hurt her?'' he thought to himself. Zeldris felt something for the dark haired, kind hearted, and sweet girl but he wasn't sure that she could possibly care for him that way. He was a demon, a commandment, and one of the demon princes at that, he had done so many awful things in his life. 'How could she love someone like me?" Zeldris thought as he let out a sad sigh and went to his room to sleep and maybe get his mind off of how he felt.
Selena was in her room drawing and reading some of the many many books her mother had owned. She heard a knock at her door. "Come in." Selena said, not really paying much attention. Elizabeth walked into the room and sat by her friend, a small smile on her face. "Hi, who was that boy you were with last night?" Selena snapped her head around, "What boy? I don't know who you're talking about." Selena huffed as she blushed, Elizabeth tilted her head and spoke again. "The red haired boy you were cuddling with last night." Selena thought for a moment for an excuse, her heart and mind racing. "His name is Orion, or at least that's the name he told me." Selena said. 'I'm going to need to let Zeldris know about that next time.' she thought to herself. After a while Elizabeth went downstairs to hang out with the others downstairs leaving Selena by herself. Selena looked to make sure no one else was upstairs and breathed a sigh of relief when she heard everyone downstairs. She went over to the window and slipped onto the roof. Selena stayed on the roof until midday . She then snuck back into her room, closed the window and curtains, and dove under her covers. Selena was asleep in minutes. Selena was back in her meadow and for now she was alone. Though she hoped she would be able to talk to Zeldris even for a bit, but until then she would have fun, she began to sing one of her favorite songs and dance along to it. Knowing she was completely alone for the time being gave her the confidence to dance and sing to her heart's delight.
Zeldris had just gotten back from patrol and allowed the others out to do as they pleased, within reason. He looked around to make sure he was alone, and then walked to where he usually slept. Zeldris was asleep in seconds. When he opened his eyes Zeldris saw Selena singing by the lake. 'She looks so peaceful' he thought as he began to walk closer. Zeldris managed to get just a few feet from her before Selena noticed. "Zeldris! I missed you so much!" she said as she tackled him in a hug, Zeldris laughed, "I missed you too Selena." he replied he hugged her back and shifted her so he could carry her easier. Zeldris set them down by the edge of the lake. Selena began to nuzzle Zeldris's neck and reluctantly speak, "We might need to be more careful next time we slip away like we did earlier. I had to lie and told Lizzie your name was Orion, at least for your disguise." Zeldris held Selena a bit tighter, hoping to calm her fears. "That's fine firefly, as long as I can see you I would do whatever it took." he looked down at Selena and gave her a gentle kiss on her forehead. Selena seemed to calm at his words and continued to nuzzle Zeldris's neck and shoulder. Zeldris smiled down at Selena, "What is up with you and nuzzling me? And who's Lizzie?" he asked. Selena's face turned red from embarrassment but she continued to nuzzle his neck. "I don't know, it just makes me feel safe and happy. And Lizzie is short for Elizabeth. She was my best friend growing up, and still is." she replied, a slight blush beginning to form on her face. At these words Zeldris felt a warm fuzzy feeling towards the girl in his arms.
Zeldris then remembered what he had heard about 'soulmarks' and the things they allowed for people to do. "Selena? Out of curiosity do you have any marks now that weren't there before?" At that Zeldris felt Selena freeze in his arms. He held her close to him and stroked her hair to soothe her, "It's ok firefly, I won't be mad." Selena looked up ever so slightly. "You promise?" Zeldris nodded as continued to stroke her hair. "I just want to make sure that you're safe, and if I'm right then the mark can help me do that." Selena sighed, then showed him her arm and explained that the mark had shown up a few days before. "Wait, if I have this mark thing does that mean you'll get one too?" Selena asked as she began to nuzzle Zeldris again. He looked out at the lake as he began to speak, "Yes, though we won't know what it will look like until it shows up." Selena sighed, "So it's a waiting game, I hate those." Zeldris gave a light hearted laugh as he stroked Selena's hair lovingly. Selena attempted to glare at Zeldris to stop him laughing at her, but that only caused Zeldris to laugh more. "You know firefly, you're so cute when you're angry." Selena huffed at him. "I am not cute." she said with a glare. Zeldris rolled his eyes at her. "Yes, you are love." Selena glared and bit Zeldris on the shoulder, not enough to really hurt him but enough to get him to stop. Zeldris only looked at her, amusement in his eyes. "You know biting me won't change my mind. Besides, I think those pointy teeth of yours look cute on you." Selena huffed once more, her face still red as a beet, and went back to nuzzling him, as a form of apology for biting him, and humming to herself although she was sure Zeldris could hear it. They stayed like that until the two needed to wake up.
