Dear Diary,

he trusts me...

"And today class... we will be learning more about the basic building blocks of matter."

Within the first sentence that came out of the teacher's mouth, Val was already bored. She learned how to tune out people's voices. That was her special skill.

But fortunately for her, this was the last period of the day. After this class, she could go home. But was that really better? With her parents... probably not.

As she scribbled in her diary, she glanced up for a moment as a tall figure walked through the door.

"Sorry I'm late." The figure said, "Hallway traffic."

The voice was familiar. Val noticed this.

She glanced up one more time to see Ranboo walking across the classroom. She furrowed her eyebrows, confused as to why he was there.

He met her gaze for a split second before he plopped down into a seat, placing his bag on the floor next to him.

Has he really been in this class all year? She thought to herself, how haven't I noticed?

As class came to an end, Val found herself staring at Ranboo.

She didn't know that she was doing it. She didn't even mean to, in fact. She was just confused as to why she only noticed him now. Did he notice her before?

Val shut her diary and held it in her grasp as the bell rang. Slinging her backpack over her shoulder, she followed Ranboo out into the hallway and ran up to his side.

"Have you been in this class all year?" She asked, looking up at him.

His gaze continued to stay forward. "Yes, I have. Have you not noticed me before?" He asked.

"No." She shook her head, looking at the floor in confusion, "Have you noticed me?"

Ranboo shrugged, "Not particularly. I've noticed that you don't pay attention, though."

"What's that supposed to mean?" She gawked.

"I haven't noticed you in particular but I've noticed the teacher yell at you multiple times a day for either drawing or sleeping during instruction." He chuckled.

Val looked off into the distance, biting the inside of her cheek to contain her smile. "I guess that's fair." She nodded.

"Mhm." He hummed in response, "Well, I guess this is where we part." The pair stopped in front of the doors that led outside, facing each other.

"Will I see you again? Or will you just avoid me?" She asked jokingly.

"Hm..." He rubbed his chin as he thought, "I guess we'll have to wait and see."

Val playfully rolled her eyes. "Go home, you nerd." She teased, nudging him towards the door.

He flashed her a smile before leaving out the doors.

She shook her head, watching him walk down the sideway.

"Fucking, Ranboo." She mumbled under her breathe.

And there they were, in the same position as yesterday. Him leaving the school, leaving her standing there confused. Confused on how they were going to be tomorrow. I guess everyday is a surprise with Mr. Boo.

"Hey mom." Val said as she placed her bag down by the stairs. She just arrived home after getting a ride from Ava.

"Hey hun." Her mom replied, looking up from the dishes, "How was school?"

Val shrugged, "The usual."

"Boring?"

"Boring." Val chuckled, sitting at the kitchen table.

As much as Val would complain about her parents, she didn't really have much to say about her mom. Yeah, they fought every now and then but mostly, their relationship was okay. It was more of her dad that was the problem. And the fact that her mom wouldn't stand up to him.

"How was work?" Val asked.

Her mom sighed, "Busy. But you gotta do what you gotta do."

"Mhm." Val hummed in response, pulling her phone out of her back pocket. Instantly, she got a text from Ava.

"I'm gonna go out with Ava for a little." Val said, standing up from the table.

"But didn't she just drop you off?" Her mom asked, glancing up at her.

Val shrugged, "Yeah. Change of plans I guess."

"Ah." She nodded, watching Val disappear into the foyer.

Val slipped her shoes back on and left out the front door as Ava pulled up.

"What happened this time?" Val asked, entering the passenger's seat once more.

It wasn't the first time this had happened. Ava, like Val, had a bad family life. She wasn't home most of the time. She was usually with Val or out in her car just driving around.

"Mom called. Apparently dad's gone violent again." Ava muttered, "I told her that I could go back home and help her but she said she had it handled."

"Awh, I'm so sorry Av." Val replied, feeling sympathy for the girl, "But maybe we can go somewhere. You know, have some fun to get your mind off of it."

"Where do you wanna go?"

"I think you know where I wanna go." Val said with a smirk.

Ava looked over at Val and nodded. They knew each other awfully well.

"Aye, theres my two favorite girls!" The hostess said as Ava and Val walked in.

They drove over to their favorite restaurant, Pluto's Coney Island. It was nearly a daily thing where Ava and Val would go there. Almost every staff member knew their names.

"Hey, Cameron!" Val exclaimed, "How's work going?"

"Ugh, slow." He groaned, "Nothing really happens around here. Mostly just old people."

"Awh, that sucks." Ava said.

Val and Ava followed Cameron as he picked up a few menus and led them to their table.

"Thank you, Cam." Val smiled at him as he walked away.

"He's kinda hot, isn't he?" Ava whispered, leaning closer to Val.

Val smiled and nodded her head, "I guess."

She picked up the menu and briefly scanned it, looking for something new. She normally got the same thing every time they came, a burger and fries. But it never hurt to try new things every once in awhile.

"Good afternoon ladies!" The waiter said, approaching the table, "What can I get you two beauts to drink?"

Val and Ava eyed each other for a moment.

"Hi, Tim. We'll just get the regular." Ava replied, "Two cokes."

"Sounds good." Tim nodded, smiling at the girls before disappearing into the back of the restaurant.

"Now, that guy-" Ava whispered, "is not hot."

Val bit her lip, holding back her laugh. "He's literally only nice to us so he can get into our pants." She shook her head.

"That's what I was thinking!" Ava exclaimed, looking at the menu as well.

Like I said, this wasn't their first time coming to this restaurant. Every single time they had the same damn waiter, Tim. He always seemed to be flirting with the girl's in subtle ways. But Val and Ava weren't having it.

"So what are you getting?" Ava asked, placing her menu back down on the table.

Val shrugged, "The usual."

"Basic bitch." Ava joked.

Val rolled her eyes at her friend before kicking her under the table.

"Ow!" Ava mumbled, kicking her back.

Val raised a cocky brow at Ava before looking down at her phone. Her mom was texting her.

mom

When are you coming home?

dunno. eventually.

Are you going to want dinner?

nah, me and ava are out
to eat right now.

Okay. Don't be out too late,
you have school tomorrow.

i know

"Who you texting?" Ava asked, "Is it that Noah kid?"

"No." Val replied as she set her phone down, "My mom was wondering when I'll be home."

"Mhm... of course she was." Ava said, eyeing her suspiciously.

"What?" Val furrowed her eyebrows with confusion.

"It's Noah, isn't it?" Ava beamed, batting her eyelashes at her.

"No. I don't even have his number." She shook her head.

Ava smirked at her, her eyes flickering between Val and her phone.

Val sighed, realizing that Ava was never going to give up on this.

Her and Ranboo were just friends. They had only met a day or so ago. The only thing that was keeping them together was that Val was the only one who knew his secret.

She was his secret keeper. That's it.

Dear Diary,

he trusts me... but to what extent?
