LAUDATION TO THE SCULPTOR
One day, one day unknown, the Sculptor'd cease
His work, and gladly would depart in peace;
The chisel and the marble are to in silence retire
And into the dust of the decades perish.
Yes, the work is over, the travailings done
For the Sculptor's dust'd be dead and gone--
But who says he himself is dead?
The years to pass may eat away
His mortal flesh on earth to stay,
Yet his spirit ne'er death will know.
See it live within
Carved from the cravings of his heart,
Behold his sould, ablaze in the finish
Through the facets of his art!
He toil'd in light, he toil'd in dark
And now proudly his creations bear his name--
And e'en as the Sculptor turns to face the end
What he'd wrought will ever rend
The air with remembrance to his fame.
