THAT DIMMING VEIL OF GRAY
With hunger at our souls all gnawing away
In the darkness doom'd we lie in wait;
Hounds the dearth our meager flesh,
Shatter'd morrows on our plate.
We cried, but unheard remains our plight
As into the maw of need we fall;
Blindly we fumble for our weathered path--
If there's anything there at all.
Do you hear, 'neath your gluttony and wealth
Our humble sobs concealed inside?
Do you see our fragile voices crumble
'Gainst the chaos of your pride?
Tell me, how come are we deceived
That we're created all the same?
Then why do you lash us with your glory
To bow before your hallowed name?
Ah, but nears the future dark
And hopeless seems the taken way;
Lies what hope for the likes of us
Beyond that dimming veil of gray?
