and the journey to now was restless
but they deeper she ventured
the more she realized everything was
as cruel as they told her ❜
𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐄, "𝕳ello, darling dove," a familiar voice greeted her in her dreams.
Out of instinct, her eyes traveled over the familiar land. The purple iris sparkled in greeting underneath the pale moonlight as if enthused to see the young girl again.
She grinned up at the eyes peering down at her, "Hey Nate," she looked over the beautiful landscape. "Lonely?"
"As always."
Aurora nodded, "I forgot to thank you for the other day. For helping me escape from the Lotus eaters."
He huffed, "It's my duty, child. How would I protect you if the world is in shambles?"
"About that," a breeze swept by. "We did it!" She enthused. "We saved the world from a war that would've ended it."
The eyes lowered, fire deep in his pupils, "So I've heard," he looked amused at how proud Aurora was to have come back alive. "You're mother was more than happy when she saw you were alright."
Aurora stood straighter at the mention of her mother, "You spoke with my mom?"
"She visits from time to time, to ensure you're safe."
"I'm back with my father," she began. "I've missed him. He wants me to start taking classes at MIT so I could get the hang of the legislative side of Stark Industries. Pepp—"
A whisper floated through the air, so swift and quiet that she had to strain her ears to hear it.
Prodigy, it spoke.
Prodigy, it repeated.
Her body tensed, it sounded different from the voice she had heard back at the gates of Elysium. That voice was full of wonder as if trying to grasp what lay before it like it had seen a lost friend or a lost love.
This voice was much different.
It spoke with malice, with rage scratching at its vocal cords and body shaking with undeniable evil. It chanted the same word over and over until Aurora couldn't take it anymore and stood looking for its source.
"Child, What is it?"
Aurora only ignored him as she turned in the direction of the cliff overlooking the ominous pit that sent her hair on stand. The closer she took a step, the louder it grew.
"Aurora," Nate huffed. "What is it you hear, Child?"
She stood at the edge of the cliff now, the pit looking as daunting as before . . . as empty as before.
She turned to face him, "Prodigy."
This seemed to snap something in the large creature. His eyes turned into slits. Whether he was angry or worried was hard for Aurora to distinguish as all she could ever see were his eyes.
"It's begun."
