"Ny do I look okay?" I asked Nyla looking in the full body mirror.
"Yes Kam...your style is cute stop self-guessing yourself." She chuckled.
"Did you know that Kailor asked me out this weekend?" I grinned.
"Omg Kam where? Why didn't you tell me?" She squealed.
"Becauseee I totally embarrassed myself." I whined.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"We were working in the library on the science project and then we just started talking about random things. And then he started staring at me and just asked me out to the movies." I explained.
"You said yes right?" She asked.
I bit down on my bottom lip and shook my head. "No, I actually started studdering and then ran out."
I saw her face soften and she came to sit next to me. "Kambree it's okay, you're still trying to get comfortable."
"I know but I looked like a complete freak. I'm so stupid, he probably doesn't even wanna talk to me anymore." I sighed.
"Kam don't call yourself stupid..and you're not a freak. You just got nervous and it's nothing wrong with that. If he holds that against you then it's his lost and he's a asshole." Nyla stated.
"Yea, but I want to go kinda, I just want you to come with me. I don't wanna be by myself with him." I mumbled.
"What if we had a double date?" She smiled.
I smiled and nodded my head. "Yea that'll be great."
"Okay, so when you and Mari come back I'll help you talk to Kailor. Then I'll tell Kay about the plans." She stated.
"Thanks so much Ny." I grinned.
"No problem Kam." She smiled hugging me.
"C'MON KAM!" We heard Mari yell.
We pulled back from the hug and smiled at each other.
"Have fun bestie." Nyla said.
"Will do." I replied.
I grabbed my small bookbag and went downstairs.
"Bwee Bwee I go u." Raelyn smiled reaching to be picked up.
I picked her up and cooed. "Aww fatfat not right now, but I'll be back."
"Noo I go with u an da da." She whined.
"Getcho ass down Fat." Jamari stated.
"No Da Da, I go to." She pouted.
"Seem come get your sister." Jamari groaned.
I chuckled and tried to put her down but she tightened her legs around me.
"I'm finna pop you." Mari sighed.
Ja'Seem walked in with his headset on and grabbed Rae.
"Bobo no." Raelyn whined reaching for me.
"C'mon Kam." Jamari said.
I followed behind him out the house and into the car.
Mari had decided that we have our own little day today after I got out of school. He said that he wanted to make sure that I was good. I really appreciated Mari and Reagan. I appreciate the whole family as well because they saved me from this dark place.
"Where are we going first?" I asked as he pulled off.
"We can go to that li race track where we drive the cars and shit." He replied.
"Okay." I nodded.
"Ouuu can I play my music?" I asked grabbing the aux cord.
He chuckled and handed me the aux cord.
I went to my playlist and played the song Letter from Lucci.
"What you know bout Lucci?" Jamari chuckled.
"Seem." I giggled.
I learned this song when Ja'Seem played it in the living room.
I made sure that I skipped all of the cuss words and the other disheartening words.
'If anything I'ma grind

I sung to the top of my lungs feeling every piece of lyric that Lucci said.
I saw that Mari was recording me so I started singing to the camera.
'Somebody go and tell 'em that I'm not lying

Anybody think they gone replace me
You know I am who they say I wouldn't be yea'
I finished singing the rest of the song and then just started singing the rest of the songs on my playlist.
We finally arrived at the race track and now we were standing in line getting our writsband.
"I'm gonna beat you." I grinned.
"I'm finna dust yo ass, and you bet not cry either." Mari stated.
My jaw dropped. "I am not gonna cry. Maybe I'll just pout."
"OKAY IF YOU ARE RACING IN A SINGLE CAR YOU MAY NOW PROCEED TO YOUR CARS." The announcer said over the intercom.
Mari and I went to the cars in the back and buckled up. Once the worker came and made sure we were secure and that our helmets were fastened the countdown began for the race.
"Keep up Kam." Mari yelled.
I gave him a thumbs up an the light finally switched to green.
Jamari sped off leaving smoke and dust everywhere.
I safely drove around the track trying to keep up but I guess I was going to slow because everybody was going around me.
I frowned when I felt somebody bump my car. I turned around and frowned again when I saw it was Jamari.
Him and other drivers were going so fast that they already completed their first lap and I was still in the middle of mines.
"KAM SPEED UP!" Jamari yelled laughing.
"No way we have to go the appropriate speed limit." I yelled back.
He shrugged his shoulders and left me AGAIN.
15 minutes later I was finally done with all my laps last and I was glad that I finished safely. We checked the score board and while Jamari came in first place I came in twenty second.
"Yo ass gone have so many people blowing the horn at you." Jamari chuckled.
I smacked my lips and giggled. "Safety first."
"Damn you was going slow as fuck Karen." A boy smirked.
Jamari's face instantly turned into a mug. "Aye bitch what you just say?"
"Ain stutter." The boy stated.
Jamari nodded and chuckled. Next thing you know Jamari punched the boy in the face leaving him with a bloody knuckle.
Everybody gasped and tried to help the boy up. I spotted security guards coming our way so I quickly dragged Jamari to the car.
"Mari why would you do that?" I frowned as he sped off.
"Man Kam you know ion play that shit." He replied.
"But violence isn't the answer." I mumbled.
"Kam I told you, I'm not gone ever let nobody disrespect you especially in my face. You my sister and ion care about yo skin. Stop letting these fuck people walk over you."
I sighed and nodded my head because I knew he was right. I needed to start standing up for myself. I was glad that Mari treated me the same as Nyla it made me feel so safe and like I belonged.
"Where we going now?" I asked.
"We finna go to lazer tagging, then the mall, then out to eat." He responded.
I nodded my head and smiled sitting back in the passenger seat.
"Ouuu can I get the aux again?" I asked.
He chuckled and gave the cord to me.
I shuffled my playlist as Fight Song by Rachael Platten played.
"This is my fight song." I mumbled singing the lyrics.
