I stumbled out of bed, my head pounding. I flipped on my bathroom light and looked into the mirror. My hair was going in 43 different directions and my make up was smeared down my cheeks.

"Rough night.." I whispered to myself, as I tried to brush my hair.

Kian had left exactly one week ago on his family vacation and he wouldn't be coming back for another week. I had cried last night for god knows how long because he hadn't called me, FaceTimed me, or even texted me in five whole days. Somehow though I had managed to fall asleep.

But I guess waking up like this is my punishment for crying so much.

I put on some jean shorts and a crop-top after I pulled my hair into a messy bun. I was spending the day with Sam and Cody. They had three-way-called me last night to cheer me up and had decided to take me out all day.

I ran downstairs and plopped on the couch. "Oh, someones not wearing any makeup! This is good!" Hank said, giving me a quick hug from behind the couch. "I'm gonna be gone all day sweety, please be careful if you go anywhere. Kian said anything yet?" He asked quietly, not sure if it was a good idea or not.

I just frowned and shook my head. "I just..." I sighed and put my face in my hands. "You would think we would've had this romantic goodbye or something, but no, he just pecked my cheek and hopped in his car. Some gorgeous friend of his sisters went with them. I highly doubt he's even thought of me."

"Oh honey, please be positive. I don't have much time to comfort you, but don't cry okay? I love you honey bunches!" He said as he walked out the door.

I sighed and wiped away the one tear that had escaped during my vent. I felt my phone buzz so I pulled it out my pocket and smiled at the I.D.

"Hi Sammy." I said, grinning.

"ALLISON, WE ARE ON OUR WAY OKAY BYE!" He yelled into the phone, and then hung up.

I sat there a minute, trying to process what he had said when my doorbell rang. I jumped up and opened the door.

Cody and Sam came rushing in, grocery bags in their hands. "Hey beautiful!" Cody said smiling like an idiot.

They both suddenly stopped walking and just stared at me a minute.

"What? Is there something on my face? I just took all my make up off..." I said, rubbing my eyes and cheeks.

"THAT'S WHAT IT IS!" They both said at once, laughing. "I think we could both tell there was something different about you." Sam said, still laughing.

"Is that good or bad..?" I said quietly.

Sam suddenly gave me a serious look. "You're gorgeous with and without it, Allison."

I sighed and smiled at him.

"What's in the bags?" I asked, grabbing one. Inside I found a tub of cake icing, muffin mix, silly string, and batteries. "Holy fuck, what are you guys planning?" I said, eyes wide open.

"Just some fun activites is all. No Allisons, Sams, or Codys will be harmed in the making of this wonderful day, I promise." Cody said, saluting me.

We all walked out of the mall, bags full of clothes and food. Sam was laughing about some fan who appearently asked for him to sneeze into her personal napkin, Cody was snorting/laughing/crying for god knows what, and I was smiling like an idiot because i had the best friends anyone could possibly have.

"But like, I'm just Sam, why would you want my snot, y'know?" He barely got out between laughs.

I smiled at him and then smiled at Cody. "Hey guys.. I have a question." I said, pulling them closer to me as we walked through the parking lot.

They both stopped talking and focused on me. "Why did you guys do this? Like, I knew you feel bad for me and all that but..."

"Allison, we both adore you. I might adore you a bit more than he does but it's whatever." Sam said, with a cheeky smile.

Cody gasped and pulled me into his chest. "Allison is MINE, you whorebag!"

The next thing I knew I watched silently as they wrestled, right in the parking lot. Sam was laughing like a maniac and Cody had tears rolling down his cheeks. I looked up and realized the sky was already pitch black. "Okay you guys, I realize you're super close now and stuff, but we have to go." I said with a sigh as I walked up to Cody's truck.

We all got in, Sam still laughing and Cody still had tears on his cheeks.

We pulled up to my house and I crawled across Sam and stepped out. "Hey wait, Allison, can I walk you up to the door?" Sam said, hopping out too.

"Sure Sammy." I said, linking my arm with his. We walked up and I started unlocking my door when Sam suddenly grabbed my shoulder. He put his lips close to my ear and started to whisper. "Kian is lucky to have you. If he blows it, you're mine." I could tell he was smiling, and I was about to smile back when he just gave me a quick hug and ran back to the truck.

I sighed and walked in my house, wondering how I got myself in this mess.

I walked upstairs and exchanged my jean shorts for leggings. I realized I had left my phone on the charger all day, so I leapt for it.

My mouth dropped.

"13 Missed Calls from- Kian(:"

"1 Missed Text from- Kian(:"

My heart instantly sped up.

Only one text.

It could be anything.

It could be an angry Kian or sad Kian or just a moody Kian.

I slowly opened it, scared of what I was going to find.

I found exactly what I had hoped to find.

"Call me."

That's all he had sent.

I blushed and got angry at the same time. He didn't get mad at me but yet I had still managed to hurt his feelings.

My head was angry, but my heart was not.

I ended up dialing his number and listening to it ring.

One.

Two.

Thre- "Allison?! Allison, please don't hate me, I love you, I promise, my phone died and-"

"Kian, I don't need an excuse. I'm just glad you called." I said smiling.

I heard a sigh of relief from the other line, so I started laughing. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, when I started to panic my mom slapped me. She said I was overreacting." Kian said quietly. "Everyone's asleep right now, so... I have to go."

"Okay Kian, just call me in the morning."

"Where were you all day? You couldn't possibly have ignored me, I mean come on..." He said whispering. His whisper sent chills down my spine and I started to miss him even more.

"I was with Sam and Cody." I said quickly. I don't know if he'll get mad or jealous...

"Oh." was all he said. "Well that's not what I was expecting."

"Well what were you expecting?"

"I thought maybe you were mad at me or sad... do you even miss me?" I could hear the sadness in his voice.

I smiled and rolled over to the other side of my bed. "Of course I miss you, Kian. Sam and Cody took me out today to cheer me up. I was a mess last night because of you, Lawley."

"i'm so sorry Allison, I really am." I could hear the actual sincerity in his voice.

"It's okay Kian. Good night."

"Good night. I love you." He said, quietly and serious-like.

"I love you too." I said back.

And I meant it.

I walked up to Shae's house, happy. Kian had called me this morning and we had talked on the phone for at least two hours.

The door was unlocked, so I just strolled in. I hadn't seen her in at least a week and I missed her like crazy.

"Shaaaaeee..." I called out, looking into her room. She was sitting in front of her mirror, curling her hair. She was wearing a fluffy white dress and her makeup looked like it had been professionally done. She looked gorgeous. "Where do you think you're going dressed like THAT? Prom isn't for another two months..." I could tell she had a date. She dresses up a lot, but I hadn't seen her this dressed up in forever.

She smiled and blushed. "I have a date with Cody. He asked me out yesterday morning."

I froze.

"He's like three years older than you, are you serious?" For some reason I was angry. I'm not sure why but maybe it was the fact either of them told me about it.

She sighed and finished the last curl. "Allison, I'll be fine. He's super sweet, and we've been talking for awhile." I plopped on her bed, frowning.

"What about Austin? I thought he adored you?" I said loudly. They've been TALKING and neither of them told me?

"He's a whore" Was all she said, while curling the last few pieces of hair.

"Alright. Just keep me updated, okay. That's all I ask." I said, rubbing my temples. I had a feeling this wouldn't end well.

"I promise I will. Now have you seen my heels anywhere?" She said, finishing up some eyeliner.

I walked down the sidewalk, watching as Cody's truck sped out of the neighborhood, Shae sitting right next to him in the passenger seat.

I sighed and decided to take a walk into town.

I grabbed a coffee and a muffin, and headed to the park. I found a nice bench near the edge of the trees and sat quietly, watching all the kids and couples run around. The sun was setting and to be honest it was one of the nicest days I had seen all year.

"Allison!" I turned towards the voice and saw Sam jogging towards me. "Why are you all alone?" He said, sitting beside me.

"Just enjoying an evening snack, Sammy." I ruffled his hair and gave him a sip of my coffee.

His phone suddenly buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket.

"Hello?"...."What?"...."But....."....."Is he alright?"...."Okay but...."..."MOM. Just tell me he's okay."

I froze and stared at him. There were tears forming in his eyes. "Sam..." I whispered, grabbing his hand.

"Okay mom, I'll be there in a few." He choked out. He hung up and let a few tears fall.

"Sam. What happened?" I whispered, leaning towards him. I don't know why but I was close to tears just watching him.

"Cody.... his truck got hit by a semi and....and he..." He said quickly, grabbing me and pulling me into him.

I pulled back and stood up.

Not Cody.

Not Shae.

"W-What do you mean?" I said loudly. "No, that couldn't have happened, Shae was with him." I choked, the tears already streaming. "Sam, tell me you're lying."

He shook his head and wiped his cheeks. "I wish I was, Allison. My moms at the hospital right now..." He stood up and wrapped me in his arms, allowing me to cry right in his shoulder.

We took his car to the hospital and ran inside, both of our faces still soaked. We found Sam's mom, Shae's mom and Cody's mom sitting in the foyer, silently crying.

"Mom, how's Cody?" Sam said, grabbing my hand as he asked. Shae's mom gave me a weird look, almost as if she thought I was dating Sam.

All she did was shake her head and Sam lost it. I hadn't realized it until now how close he had gotten to Cody. I honestly hated seeing him break down like this. He wiped his eyes with his sleeves, awhile giving his mom a hug. Cody's mom hugged him too, whispering something in his ear as he pulled back. Shae's mom grabbed my hand and pulled me in for a hug.

I wasn't crying.

I wasn't shedding a tear.

There's no way Cody died.

He has to be alive.

"Allison, honey are you okay?" Sam's mom asked me. I just shook my head and walked out.

He's still alive.

He has to be.

He's my best friend.

Best friends don't die.

This can't be happening.

Someone grabbed my shoulder and turned me around. I was facing Sam, who was still crying a bit. "Allison, please don't shut down, it'll be fine I promise."

I pushed his hand off my shoulder and frowned. "Oh really? Sam, what's fine about both of your best friends dying in a car crash? Huh? What's fine about that?! What if it was me and you, Sam. It's not fine okay? They're dead, Sam! DEAD! What the hell is fine about that?!" I was screaming now, not even realizing Sam had both if his hands cupping my face.

Both of them.

Gone.

"ALLISON, LISTEN TO ME. It's going to be alright, okay? Shae is in the emergency room right now, they're trying to wake her up, okay?" Sam said, his tears already back and running down his cheeks. "Allison please just be strong. For me. For Kian." He said "kian" quietly, like he didn't even want to bring him up.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. "That's the thing Sam, Kian's gone, he has no idea." I squeaked out.

Sam just pulled me into a hug. His arms were wrapped around my torso, and my head was in the crook of his neck. We stayed like that for a bit, just swaying and crying.

Sam suddenly pulled back and handed me his phone. "Call him." he said, a few more tears streaming. He turned his back to me and headed back into the foyer.

I dialed Kian's number and listened to it ring.

"Sam? What's up? You never call me, is som-"

"Kian?" I squeaked out. His voice made me emotional.

"Allison? What's wrong? Why are you crying? Is everything alright?" All the background noise stopped. I could picture him just stopping in his tracks and focusing on his phone.

"Kian, Cody...he.... he got in a car crash and.." The sobs came back again. My whole body was shaking and my face was soaked. I felt Sam hug me from behind.

"Allison, please stop crying, you're gonna make me cry." Kian said quietly. I could tell he was starting to get choked up.

I took a deep breath. "Shae is in the ER right now, but I don't think Cody made it..." I let out another sob, trying to not shake as bad since Sam was on me.

"Mom, no I'm trying to talk to... yes I miss her, just hold on! Okay, Allison, who's with you? Where are you?" Kian said. I heard a door shut and I figured he had put himself in the bathroom.

"I'm with Sam at the hospital." I said, as he pulled off me. I grabbed his hand so he wouldn't walk away.

"Alright. I can't talk right now, my moms yelling for me. Keep me updated please. Oh and tell Sam th-" He was suddenly cut off.

I sighed and handed Sam his phone. "Dropped call. He couldn't talk anyways." I wiped my face and went to a chair to sit down. Sam came over and sat right on my lap. I groaned and tried to push him off. "Honestly Sam, this is not the time!"

"Oh but it is!" He said, leaning back into me. My face was ruffled up in his sweatshirt. I laughed and pushed him off.

"Thanks Sam." I said quietly, leaning against him.

"Anything for you, Allison." He said quietly back.

We walked out of the church, my hand in Sam's, the other in Hank's. It was like a black sea flowing out of the doors as the funeral ended. Hank came instead of my dad, since he supposedly had a surprise for me. Kian had called me this morning and told me he would be back sometime tonight, so I figured that was the surprise. It's a lovely one, don't get me wrong, but I missed Cody.

Shae is still in the hospital, trying to recover. I was told she only had a minor concussion and bad bruises. "Hank, what's my surprise?" I asked, leaning into his shoulder.

His eyes frowned. But he smiled and patted my cheek. "You'll see, honey. You'll see."

"Cam you drop me off at my house on your way home?" Sam said, looking down at his phone. "My mom said she took my car to work."

"Sure Sammy." I said, pushing him. He laughing and pushed me into Hank. The next thing I knew I felt like I was being tossed around by two three year olds.

After we dropped Sam off, we went back home. I was almost jumping out of my seat, since my surprise could easily be Kian.

Hank parked the car and I jumped out. I ran through the door and froze in my tracks.

"Alli, baby. You're home." My mom said, standing in the living room.
