I finish doing my makeup in the mirror and then throw on some black jeans with a white sweater which sits on my shoulders nicely. I put on my black boots and then walk downstairs. Draco is the only one sitting there ready. His arm healed up nicely and he's reading a book.
"Hey, where are the others?" I ask picking my bag up and putting it on my shoulder. He smiles up at me and throws me his scarf.
"Told them to go ahead and we would meet them at the Three Broomsticks" He says and I smile. I wrap his scarf around me and he gets up. We both walk to the carriages and hand McGonagall our permission slips. We both jump in a carriage with two other ravenclaws. They roll their eyes at us and start whispering till I glare at them. Draco notices the exchange and just chuckles at me. The carriage ride is short and Draco helps me out when we stop. "This way"
"But I thought we were going to the three broomsticks?" I say as I turn towards it. He smirks and shakes his head.
"You're coming with me first" He says and takes my hand pulling me towards some shops. I roll my eyes but follow him. He pulls me into Honeydukes and I smile widely at all of the candy. I grab a basket and pick up a few things, mainly chocolate frogs and some jelly beans. Draco meets up with me at the end and shakes his head at my basket.
"What? I get cravings, would you rather me be grumpy?" I joke. His eyes widen and he shakes his head.
"God help us all of you don't get your chocolate" He says. I elbow him gently and pay for my things as does he. We leave the shop and he pulls me to a jewellery store. I roll my eyes as he looks at a ring in the window. A necklace catches my eye, it has a green emerald in the Center and it's shaped like a droplet. Then has a snake wrapped around the point. "I'm going to get this ring, anything caught your eye?"
"No I'm good, I'll wait here" I say leaning against the wall. He smiles and goes inside. He comes out with a small bag a few moments later and then takes my hand. "Can we go get a butterbeer now?"
"Yes come on then" He laughs at me. We walk to the three broomsticks and the others are already in a booth. I wave to them and they move up to give us space.
"Where have you two been?" Malia smirks accusingly. I slide in next to her.
"I had to stock up on chocolate obviously" I say. They laugh at me as Draco brings me over a cup. I thank him as Crabbe tells us about Blaise's failed attempt to hit on the waitress.
"It wasn't a failure she just told me I looked too young" He says and glares at Crabbe. Malia rolls her eyes.
"Absolutely, I'm sure it was just that" I say with a smirk. Blaise looks at me.
"Go on then, I'd like to see you do better," He says. I laugh at him.
"Okay name anyone and I bet I can do better than you" I say. I feel Draco tense beside me but shrug it off as Blaise looks around. Then turns back to me with a smile.
"George Weasley" He says and smirks wider. I look over to the twins with a few of their friends.
"Fine" I say and then stand up. I straighten my scarf and then put my hair over my shoulder. Draco let's me out of the booth and slumps back annoyed. I walk over to him and they look up. "Hey George"
"Hi? It's Y/N right?" He says smiling at Fred and then looking at me.
"I just came to ask you about that prank you pulled on my dad. He wouldn't stop complaining for weeks. Maybe you could give me some tips" I say smirking at him. He looks taken aback but then smiles.
"Absolutely" He says and then goes on to explain about getting sweets confiscated in his lessons. They happened to be puking pastels. Of course my dad being stupid enough had some. I laugh as he recounts how much he threw up.
"Thank you George, I'll be sure to use some of your tips" I say and walk away giving him a wink. He blushes and I sit back next to Draco.
"Okay how did you do that? He was basically drooling over you" Blaise says annoyed. I take a sip of my drink.
"Duh? Who could resist these good looks?" I joke and they laugh.
"Come on let's get back" Draco grumbles. I look at him confused. He stays completely silent as we all walk to a carriage.
"You should have seen the glare he was giving Blaise when you were with George" Malia says walking next to me. I shake my head confused.
"Why though? He knows it was only a joke?" I say and she shrugs. We get on the carriage in silence and as we get back there are students running down the stairs.
"What's going on?" Malia asks. Pansy stops in front of us and rolls her eyes.
"Sirius Black has been spotted in the castle, we have to stay in the great hall. Drakey I'll save you a spot next to me" She winks at him. He rolls his eyes in disgust.
"I'm good thanks," He says.
"Are you okay? You've gone really pale" Blaise asks. I shrug as the others turn to me.
"I'm fine," I say, forcing a smile. Draco's eyes soften and he walks next to me in the hall. We all set up in the corner of the Slytherin section. It's dark and students are starting to settle down. Malia is on my right and Draco to my left. I get under the blanket and shiver slightly. Malia and the others are asleep so I curl up in a ball and turn towards Draco.
"Are you cold?" He whispers to me. I smile and shake my head at him.
"No I'm fine" I lie. He stands and gives me his extra blanket. I give him a small smile as he moves closer to me. He lets me lay my head on his chest. I snuggle into his warm body. "Why were you so angry about the George thing?"
"I um...I just think you can do better, that's all" He stutters. I move away and look at him confused. I swallow the lump in my throat and avert my gaze. For a moment I let myself believe that he actually did like me.
"Draco...l..." I start saying and he looks at me. His eyes softening and he studies my face. "Doesn't matter"
"Get some sleep" He says and smiles at me. I turn around and get comfy. One of his arms wraps around my waist and he pulls me closer. "Jesus you are cold" I laugh and he puts his chin on my shoulder. I relax into his chest and feel butterflies in my stomach. I begin to fall asleep till I hear footsteps.
"Mr Malfoy. What on earth are you doing?" My dad's voice rings out and I pretend to be asleep. I feel Draco sit up.
"She was cold, I was just making sure my best friend didn't freeze to death" He stutters. I smile into the blanket.
"I'm watching you Malfoy, no funny business with my daughter" He says and then footsteps show that he's walked away. Draco goes back to his position.
"Your dad is terrifying" He whispers and then I hear his breathing slow. I snuggle into him tightly and smile. The next morning we are allowed to return to our dorms. I jump in the shower quickly and Malia starts studying. It's a Sunday so we have the rest of the day off. I jump out of the shower and then get changed and use a spell to dry my hair.
"I'm going to see my Dad, he wants to talk to me. I'll see you at dinner?" I say to Malia as I grab my bag. She nods and smiles at me. I walk to his office and knock.
"Come in" He says. I open the door and he leans back in his chair. "Afternoon Sweetheart"
"Everything okay dad?" I ask and close his door. He gives me a small smile and nods.
"Just haven't seen much of you so I thought we could catch up" He says. I nod and take a seat in front of his desk. I pull out some sweets from my bag and hand them to him.
"I got you some from Hogsmead" I say and he thanks me.
"So you and Malfoy?" He asks awkwardly.
"We're just friends" I say and give him a smile. It's not a total lie, we are just friends. I want to be more. He nods and hands me a small box.
"Happy Birthday" He smiles. I take it gratefully.
"You didn't have to get me anything. You know I hate my birthday" I say and he shrugs and perches on the desk.
"Technically I didn't get you anything" He says and I open it. It has a photo frame inside. The picture is of my mother holding a baby. "It was taken right after you were born. I wanted to wait before giving it to you"
"I love it thank you" I say and wipe away one of my tears.
"Y/n, I know your mother and I weren't married or anything but I did love her. She was my best friend. She helped me so much. Other than Lily she was the only person who stuck by me at school" He says. I smile and run my finger over the photo. "She would be proud of you. You're one of the best in all your classes"
"Thank you Dad" I say. He gives me a quick stiff hug and waves me away.
"Go see your friends," He says. I nod and leave the room. I walk back to the common room before bumping into someone. I fall on the floor and drop my box.
"I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" A voice says. I nod and get up from the floor.
"Potter" I say. I give him a small smile and he looks worried. "Everything okay?"
"Uh yeah, just thought you'd be pissed" He says. I shake my head and shrug.
"No harm done, what are you doing alone?" I ask. He looks a bit taken aback but I don't blame him. I'm normally with Malfoy who teases him consistently.
"Just clearing my head I guess" He shrugs. I nod and he hands me my frame. "Is that your mom?"
"Yeah, Dad...sorry Professor Snape gave it to me for my birthday" I say. I smile down at the picture.
"Oh...Happy Birthday" He says. I nod and give him a forced smile. "I used to hate my birthday too. It was a..."
"Reminder of the lack of family" I finish. He nods slowly. "Sorry I didn't mean to"
"No no it's okay, you must understand" He says and I nod. He gives me a warm smile. "I should be getting back but have a good birthday y/n"
"Thank you Harry" I say and begin walking back to my common room. I say the password and the door opens. Two hands go around my eyes. "Um get the hell off me now"
"Shh love it's only me" Draco whispers and then let's me go. I glare and turn to him. He pulls out a box and holds it out. "Happy Birthday"
"I told you..." I say and he laughs.
"When do I ever listen?" He says. I roll my eyes and shrug. I take the box from him and unwrap the ribbon. I gasp as I open the box.
"Draco..." I say but am speechless.
"I saw you staring at it the other day. Do you like it?" He asks eagerly. I nod and smile at him.
"I love it, thank you" I say. I pull him into a quick hug and he lifts me up slightly. I take it out of the box carefully.
"Here let me" He says. I hand it to him and turn around. I move my hair as he does up the clasp. I turn back to him as he puts my hair back. "I have one more surprise"
"No no...I hate surprises" I say as he drags me into the main common room. The others are sat by the fire and smile as we walk in.
"Happy Birthday!" They shout. I turn to glare at Draco.
"You told them?" I ask. He shrugs but smiles.
"They would have found out anyway, come on, we thought we'd all hang out till dinner" He says and pulls me next to him.
