        Dude, where are you?

That was the third text from Kara today. We were together for orientation yesterday, and I spent the night at her house, but I woke up early and left. She texted me asking where I went, but I didn't want to tell her what I was doing.

I'm not sure what my plans were when I got up that morning, or why I was here. Or what I was doing in the small restaurant in downtown Baltimore in the middle of summer. The front of the restaurant had tables that were used for the season. I got a small table with an umbrella. I had a pair of sunglasses on my eyes, and my foot was shaking inside my white gladiator sandals.

My white tank top was reflecting the sun but still caused my entire body to feel hot. I crossed my legs, trying to get comfortable while sipping my iced tea. I let out a breath, running my fingers through my hair. I watched the people pass down the street. There were couples, and families out and about.

The second time the waitor came around, he asked me if I was ready to order, but I wasn't. I told himt o wait just a few more minutes, and that I was sorry. He smiled at me, telling me that it was completely fine and to take my time. I was starting to feel bad for him while watching him run around in the sweltering heat.

"I had a feeling you'd want to meet up for lunch," I heard the familiar voice hit my ears, and he was smirking wickedly when I snapped my head in his direction. He had a pair of Ray Bans on, piercings shining in the light, and when he sat down he realized I'd ordered him a drink.

He took a long sip of the Mountain Dew. I watched him from my seat, playing with my destroyed jean skirt. He eyed me from under his sunglasses, the tint not dark enough to not see them wander.

"What happened, Adam?" I asked desperately. His eyes met mine and his eyebrows came together in confusion. He tilted his head to the side slightly, like he did when he didn't understand.

        "What are you talking about?"

I shook my head, a sad smile on my lips. "You were the sweetest guy in the entire world. But now -- you're so different. You're acting like.." I couldn't finish my sentance because he cut me off.

"Your boyfriend?" he asked, voice annoyed. I closed my eyes tightly, rubbing my forehead.

"I don't have a boyfriend," I muttered quietly, fingers wrapping around my stomach. I took a long sip of my rink, letting out my breath. He raised his eyebrows, smile visible.

        "When did that happen?"

"After I saw you at the party," I grumbled, voice falling. I didn't like to talk about this with Adam.

This wasn't the same Adam I cared about before. "Your surprise visit didn't help."

His face fell slightly, and I saw it. I saw the old Adam, the one I used to love. My heart sped up, and I smiled brightly at him, poitning at his face. "That right there, is the Adam I know."

"What good did the old Adam do?" He laughed bitterly. It disappeared, completely gone. My face fell and I shrugged slightly.

"He made me smile," I said quietly, glancing towards him. He faltered for a moment, a small smile twitching on the right corner of his lips. He allowed it to fall quickly.

"Apparently I didn't do enough if this is how you are now," he sighed, leaning back in his chair.

"And you think acting this way is going to make it all better?" I asked, and he shrugged once.
