And So I Did

"Ow!" I burst out as I stepped - again - on the toes of the poor man who had the misfortune of having to dance with me.

Then he spun me, purposely, or accidentally, sending me crashing into a young man.

"Oh, I'm sorry." I bubbled out nervously to him.

His lips curved upwards. He held out his hand towards me.

"May I have this dance?" he asks without a second glance at my dancing partner.

I glance between them both. My dancing partner shrugged and walked off.

Not that he needed a good reason. I was always stepping nervously on people's feet when I danced.

"I suppose so."

He grinned and quickly grabbed my waist, startling me, and we both began to waltz.

Our eyes never left each other. I was afraid of stumbling, but he was a flawless dancer.

He glided and directed. Where he went, I went.

I stepped on his toes accidentally, making him slightly wince.

"Sorry," I whispered, slightly embarrassed.

He smiled broadly. "Keep your eyes on me, and only me."

And so I did.
