Mackenzie had been back for a few days. Things were so much better.
Max hadn't seen his dad in years. He knew it wasn't anyone's fault but the veteran's administration who just threw him on the streets with no contact or benefits.
Years on the streets had changed Mackenzie just like the war did. But he was home. He had his wife and son back. He had his parents and friends back. Things were gonna be normal again.
One night Mackenzie max and Chloe where sleeping. And Mackenzie was having night terrors. Max noticed Mackenzie whimpering and mumbling. Max instinctively wrapped his arms around Mackenzie. Before he drifted back off to sleep he noticed that Mackenzie stopped whimpering and mumbling. And he also noticed Mackenzie's frown turn into a comforted smile. Max buried his head into Mackenzie's chest and fell back asleep.
