Katniss's POV

I stiffly walk up onto the stage, feeling the presence of stares lining my back. Effie smiles at me, and I can't tell if it's genuine or not. I tensely smile back, too shocked to do anything but stand like a block of wood. Effie raises her hand and people clap. It's like a never-ending drumbeat in my ears. Prim jumps up and down, like she's on a sugar high, and mom is attempting to hand me a comforting smile. Effie then puts her hand on my back and leads me into the train.

Five minutes later, mom and Prim come to wish me luck.
"Katniss! This is amazing! You get to compete in the Princess games!" Prim exclaims. I smile at her.
"Yes Little Duck. Wish me luck?" I ask. She nods wildly and steps back. "Mom, don't shut down like you did before. Promise me that." I say.
"Yes. I won't go that. I'm on medicine that helps me get better." She tells me. I nod and stand up and hug her, then spin Prim around in a bone-crushing hug. They smile at me before walking out, escorted by two peacekeepers.

The train ride there was treacherous. I almost fell asleep a few times. The couches were nice though, a velvety texture. The train comes to a sudden stop and I lurch forward.
"My apologies miss!" The conductor shouts in his Capitol accent. Effie comes rushing into the room.
"When you get outside, you will be paired up with someone and walk on the carpet and into the building straight up ahead. You're paired with a District 4 girl, her name is Annie." Effie tells me, then opens the door hastily.

When I step out, millions of people's cheers clog my ears. Effie leads me over to Annie. She has crazy red hair, and green eyes, along with pale skin, and an expression that tells me that all together, she's not mentally "there". She smiles at me and we walk on the carpet, doing our best to block out the noises of the crowds.

By the time we step inside, I can just barely hear. We're all led to a big room with exactly twelve seats. I sit down in a seat marked "twelve" and wait for someone to start speaking.

A lady walks up on stage. Her hair is dyed a bright yellow and her skin is purple. She's wearing a big yellow dress that hangs like a gumdrop.
"In the Princess Games, there will be five main tests. Obstacle, tea party, singing, dancing, and lastly, a photo shoot with the Prince. Prince Peeta will be watching all of you when you complete your tests. Each of you are assigned your own rooms, plus, your closets and fridges are completely stocked. Your escort will lead all if you to your rooms." With that, she walks off the stage.

My room is huge! It's at least four times bigger than my whole house back in Twelve. I wander around and find the bedroom. It has a canopy bed and a long couch at the end of the room. Running into the bathroom, I decide to take a shower. The dials are confusing. At first, the water was scorchingly hot, then, it felt as though I was trapped in an ice cube! I end up smelling like roses and feeling as smooth as satin. There's a weird machine where it dries you instantly by just stepping on it. Next, I try a machine that untangles my annoyingly knotty hair. Satisfied with my cleanliness, I go in my closet and try to find something low-key. I pick out a forest green shirt and black charcoal pants, my two favorite colors. I then slouch on the couch, staring at the wall.

A knock on the door startles me and I jump up. Slowly opening the the door, is see Effie smiling like an idiot. "Dinners ready!" She squeaks, and rushes to the long dining table. It's only me and her, there are a lot of awkward silences. The lamb stew is by far my favorite. I savor every bite until the last bit. Finishing my meal, I get up, and walk back to my room, where I barely manage to sleep for two hours.
