chapter 9

crossing the bridge took a little longer than what you would've wanted. you weren't tired, high stamina was apart of fighting and training. you were simply lazy. 

but, the sight after crossing the bridge almost made it worth it.

"waaah, look at how pretty the flowers are!" you gushed, running towards them.

"[y/n], no, come on. we're exploring."

"hajime, you are the worst."

"w-what?!"

"not actually, you know i'm just playing!" you winked at him, letting him know it was friendly fire.

he blushed a little and turned away.

as you ventured further from the flowers you saw another gate that read '3.' however, it wasn't open... literally. there were huge metal bars closing it off. but, you swept it under the rug as it wasn't the worst thing you've seen today.

you all came to a stop when you noticed a sign that read, 'jabberwock park.' silently you continued towards it.

"so...this is a park..."

"first the restaurant, and now this? hajime-"

"still," you know who intervened, " a park surrounded by the ocean... hmm, it feels so nice."

you saw hajime was not impressed by nagitos laid back attitude, but you thought it made him look pretty. clear skies, trees, flowers, the ocean, he looked like a painting. and you couldn't help but voice it.

"y'know, nagito. you're really pretty."

"h-huh? me?"

"just an observation." you smile at him, sending him a thumbs up.

you saw him look down and mutter a quiet thank you, you'd have to compliment him more often.

looking past him, you saw a bronze statue with a plethora of animals on it. along with a warrior riding them on top.

"wow! what a grand statue!"

"yeah, it's grand... but isn't it also kind of creepy?"

"hajime, you literally can't enjoy anything," he spluttered, trying to find a response, "but i do agree...something about it is unsettling."

hajime shook his head and pointed at you, "why'd you insult me if you agreed?!"

"for fun!" you said cheekily, winking at him again.

"do you two really think it's weird? i think it looks splendid. i mean, look at it. it probably symbolizes the whole island."

"ah! great observation, nagito! i loved it, keep it going."

"ah, thank you, [y/n]..." your compliment once again threw him off guard.

the negative nancy of the group chimed in again, "he gets praise and i get slander?"

"it's all in good nature, i love you both equally."

"love?!"  the two asked in unison.

"... it's a figure of speech... we just met, i'm not in love with you guys..."

they had a mix of relief and disappointment on their faces.

looking at the weird statue in front of you, you ended up noticing another person next to it. you nudged the two boys standing next to you as you headed towards the unknown male. 

and just like fuyuhiko, he was not welcoming.

"...what do you want?"

his presence was snobbish, it made it hard to breathe. but you'd be damned before you back down, to a male at that.
