Chapter 30: 'Exit?'

Linda and I back up a bit to give him space to land, but close enough to hopefully catch him and prevent him from falling.

Henry steps back a bit so he can get a running start, I hear it creaking and snapping under him.

"On-" I get cut off as the platform breaks under him. He tries to jump over, almost managing to grab the edge of he platform we are on before he falls.

"HENRY!" Linda and I shout.

Pov: Henry

"HENRY!"

The one word I managed to hear in this. . . spinning, inky well of voices.

Strangely enough, it's kind of peaceful here.

There's a light at the end of the tunnel, I feel. . drawn to it.

Why would I want to leave such a peaceful place?

Right after I finished that thought, the voices became louder.

The voices are inaudible, almost like they're talking backwards.

I get a horrible headache and nearly fall.

I need to get out of here.

I start walking towards the light, almost falling several times. But I force myself to keep going.

I reach the light.

Linda is sitting on the couch, her head in her hands, ink tears streaming down her face.

Wally walks over to her, putting a hand on her shoulder.

"He'll be fine, he's Henry after all." Buddy says to reassure her.

She looks at them, her pie-cut shaped eyes filled with tears.

He is going to be fine, right?

Why wouldn't he? Like you said! He is Henry!

Do her eyes look like a light shade of blue to you?

What do you-

Wally stops when he also sees what Buddy does.

The longer they look at her, the less toon-like she looks, her pie-cut shaped eyes look more like human eyes, and are a light blue shade.

Yeah, they do.

How though?

The ink hasn't fully claimed her yet?

Maybe.

Linda stares at them for a little while longer.
". . You're right. Henry will be fine! He'll find a way to survive! He always does!" She replies, trying to convince herself.
