Prologue

Batclaw grinned at the Desertclan warrior.
"You can't hurt me, you're too-" The warrior sliced Batclaws neck, and it started to pour blood. He choked. Silverecho yowled.
"Batclaw!" Her eyes were widened, and she was worried. She could already feel tears welling up. Batclaw fell to the ground and collapsed into the dirt. Silverecho placed her paws on his fur, crying.

Mews of laughter filled the camp. Echopaw swished his tail at the other apprentices, he was always the one who thought he was the best. But, he was a real softie when something hit his weak spot.
"Don't worry, Silverstar! I'll make it absolutely sure that I catch the best of prey for you!" Silverstar lowered her ears.
"Don't be like that, Echopaw. I have learned in my past years that acting like that will get you-- uhm.. Just don't do it."

In her past years, Silverstar fell for this particular cat who was just like Echopaw, Batclaw, her mate. Batclaw was too dependent on himself. She saw him act that way during a battle, then he got murdered in front of her eyes. He was so stupid, and he also shattered her heart into millions of tiny shards. She did not want that happening to Echopaw. Of course Silverstar cared for him, he was her apprentice. She planned on training him correctly and making him deputy one day, but with the attitude he has she doesn't really think he'll make it that far, which stings. Life in the forest is rough, and hunting to survive is scary. Most of the time Silverstar sits down and thinks about whether she really should have been leader or not. Her father, Raccoonstar, appointed her as deputy because he saw all the potential in her, not because she was his daughter, but of course most cats think that.

"But, I'm sure you'll catch something! You're a great hunter, Echopaw. Oh, and remember, don't get too far ahead of yourself!" Echopaw nodded and swished his tail as he entered the forest to hunt for Silverstar. Moonpaw stood next to him, smiling. "Echopaw.. Wanna hunt with me? Y-y'know, since we're both hunting for our mentors?" Echopaw turned to face Moonpaw and gazed in eachother eyes. "Sure thing, Moonpaw." Moonpaw's face lit a soft pink shining across her face within the small tabby's blue-gray fur. "Alright! Where do we start?" Moonpaw lowered her ears and used her sense of smell to locate prey. She pointed west into a deeper part of the forest. "That way, I smell prey." They proceeded to place their paws in dry areas of the grass, it had been raining for the past few days and only stopped today. The endless rain caused floods and mud puddles, many cats came back to camp dirty or wounded from slipping. More-so the.. clumsy warriors.

Chapter Two

A mouse in the distance started to sink it's small claws into the dirt, the two warrior cat apprentices lowered into the hunting-crouch. Echopaw locked eyes on the mouse, before he pounced, Moonpaw got out of the crouch and sat carefully. Echopaw pounced on the mouse and it squirmed, desperate for freedom. Echopaw stared at Moonpaw. "Why didn't you try and catch it?" he asked, confused. Moonpaw sighed. "Echopaw, I don't think I wanna be a warrior. You know, I've been spending lots of time with Birchfur and studying herbs." Echopaw sat down next to Moonpaw and proceeded to lock eyes with the small she-cat apprentice. "That's fine.. but don't you want kits?" The forest was silent, only the light tweets and twoots of parrots and parakeets filled the atmosphere. "Yeah.. I do." Moonpaw lowered her ears, she was obviously disappointed. "Sometimes I have second thoughts about this all, was I really meant to be a warrior?" "Don't think like that, Moonpaw. You're a great warrior, trust me! Any moon now we could become warriors. I bet you'll prove yourself to Silverstar amazingly, like during a super blood thirsty battle! Ooh, or saving her from death!" Moonpaw giggled. Echopaw was oddly charming, but she had always lowkey crushed on him ever since kithood. Echopaw had a feeling something was going on with her but he never really sensed it at all.
