The Popular Group Pranked Me So I Turned into a VR Celebrity

Prologue

29th of April 2021. Humanity unlocked a new chapter. Having the entirety of the human brain mapped out, humans were able to develop highly advanced AI's as well as a way to transfer their consciousness into the digital world. Full Dive Virtual Reality or FDVR for short was created.  Thousand of doors of possibilities appeared and it did not take long for humans to open them. The door that made the most money, was the entertainment door. FDVR Games were the latest craze. And in year 2022 the first ever FDVRMMORPG got released, Eternals. Controlled and inhabited by AI's they were able to create a whole new world down to the smallest detail. And its biggest selling point was, that you as the player create the story. 

Or so it says in the article of the game magazine my brother was holding into my face making it impossible for me to eat my toast. His excitement, immeasurable. 

To be fair, he had a very good reason to be this excited. Thanks to my brothers enthusiasm towards gaming, I myself had a big interest in this topic.

But this is this, and that is that. Fact is, he shouldn't stop a lady from eating her breakfast.

"Ok, that's it. I'm buying you a FDVR console today. You and me, Lucy, we are gonna play this", he boldly declared. Not that I am against it, but please... My toast was getting cold.

Displeased I looked at him, but ended up saying, "Sure. You're paying?"

"Of course!" he proudly slammed his fist into his chest. "As the one to corrupt you and drag you into the Video Game World, I obviously take full responsibility for providing you with the necessary goods for your addiction."

I rolled my eyes at him. "I am not addicted, ok?"

"Your not fooling anyone with that. Not even yourself." He ruffled my hair as he stood up from the breakfast table. "Ok I'm gonna head to the store now so they can set up the equipment, before Eternals gets released tomorrow. I'll send them over and then head to my apartment. Keep an eye on the door." 

As he was putting on his shoes he then said, "Oh and Mum texted me she will be home later today."

"Sounds good. I'll text you or something."

"You better, I want to know all about how your date turned out!"

Hearing him mention my date, I could feel my face contorting into a grin. What my brother was talking about is something, that happened not to long ago. But to understand the full context we had to turn back in time.

It was the day before yesterday. It was like any other Thursday for me. Waking up at 6, getting ready for school, and leaving the house at 7 to meet up with my best friend in front of her house.

My best friend, Alexandra or Alex for short, had dark brownish hair yellow eyes and the body of a model. Doing Muay Thai since she was 6, she was the athletic type. But not any athletic type. She was the kind of athletic girl that could kick your ass in under 20 seconds. And contrary to her appearance, there was me. The obesely overweight girl, with platinum blond hair and blue eyes. We were as different as heaven and earth, and yet we were inseparable. We were at each others side ever since we can remember ourselves. She was my neighbor my best friend and soulmate.

Well coming back on track of the story, Alex and me were arriving at the school, but for some reason we got stopped at the school gate by none other than Marc. Marc is one of the popular guys at school. With 189 cm height, black hair, orderly facial features and the cutest dimples ever, he was a real ladies killer and to no surprise also my crush. And this same Marc took a hold of us in front of the gate. And the real cherry on top was, that he did not call out to Alex, but me!
