"Is papi even gonna let me walk out the house in this?" I joke.
Phoebe laughs and shakes her head. "Probably not but he won't succeed" she says adjusting the straps for me.
"It's growing on me" I say and Phoebe's Cheshire Cat smile returns.
"Great! How much is it?" She asks looking for the tag.
"You didn't check the price?" I ask "did you even grab it from the clearance section?" I add.
She gives me a sheepish smile when she finally finds the tag.
"What's the damage?" I groan.
"450" she says groaning.
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but it still wasn't good. Truthfully it was over 200 dollars more than what I spent on my prom dress, which was found in the clearance section.
"I'll have to find something else Phoebs this is a lot for one night" I say shrugging my shoulders.
"Okay" she says and steps out of the dressing room for me to change.
When I shut the door I look back in the mirror. It really is a gorgeous dress, but now I know why it's so pretty. I take one last look before taking it off and handing it to Phoebe to put away, then changing back into my T-shirt and shorts.
When I walk out Phoebe is looking through the other dresses on the clearance side with a slight frown.
"What's wrong" I ask when I reach her.
"I didn't grab that dress from the clearance because I had already looked through here and everything looks like something Abuelita would wear" she says pulling out one dress.
"It does" I say with a small laugh.
"We can look somewhere else okay?" I say patting her shoulder. I swear she's more torn up about this than I am.
We shop around at a few other stores at the mall but we don't find anything close to the first dress we found. After a while I was tired of dress shopping and suggested we start looking for David's gift.
"When's the ball again?" She asks looking at a few shirts in the mens section.
"Next Wednesday" I say.
She nods and goes back to browsing. Eventually she decided on a really nice watch that was about 130 bucks. She said she had been saving her money for a while to get him something nice, I sort of wish she wouldn't have spent all her money on that watch but I didn't want to upset her.
We browsed around for a bit and decided to stop at the food court. It was already almost 4 and we were starving.
When we sat down Phoebe looked like she had something on her mind, but when I asked she smiled at me and said she was just nervous about the watch for David.
We sat in silence enjoying our food, and before we left I felt like I needed to use the bathroom.
"Want me to hold your purse?" Phoebe offers and I say yes then hand her my bag before going.
When I get back I catch sight of her with her hands in my bag.
"Looking for something?" I ask and she looks up at me nervously.
"Got any gum?" She says quickly.
I grab my purse and hand her a piece of gum. "Ready to go?" I ask and she nods with a smile.
We didn't say much on the way home, but I noticed she had been texting a lot. I hope she wasn't fighting with David after all the money she spent on that watch.
