"So... what's our plan?" Bucky whispers in the semi darkness.
"Our what?" Steve replies.
"Oh God we're going to die," Bucky hangs his head low in mock defeat before whisper-yelling, "you didn't come up with a plan?!"
"I'm sorry!"
They are alone in enemy territory, the place is swarming with Nazis, sooner or later they were going to be caught. The rest of the Commandos got caught up in the last village so they're here without back up. They fervently discuss plans while they crouch in a crumbling building waiting to be found.
"How do we keep getting into situations like this?"
"Nearly two decades of friendship and I still don't know punk, even before ya got jacked you seem to attract trouble like a goddamned magnet," Bucky snaps back, he spies a platoon of Nazi troops heading their way through his scope. An army against two soldiers? Yep, they were royally screwed.
Dust and calcined brick crunches underneath a boot, a Hydra soldier could be seen creeping along the alley between the buildings as he searched for stragglers, Bucky observes him silently. The fine hairs on the back of Bucky's neck stand on end, a strange unidentified tingling feeling creeps up his spine, he feels as though someone is watching them.
"I take them out and distract them, then you run Buck--"
"No! That's a terrible plan! I'm not leaving you here--!"
A heavy thud cuts Bucky off, he peeks his head out of his hidding place to see the Hydra soldier face down in a steadily growing pool of crimson blood. His eyebrows knit together in confusion: he didn't see anyone that may have been defending them, he gestures wildly to Steve that they have to leave immediately. The pair scramble out of their hidding spot and cross the street to another crumbling building and settling on the second floor.
Bucky crouches by a window, positioning his rifle and peering down the scope, the crosshairs pins a Hydra soldier, his finger hovers lightly over the trigger. The Hydra soldier's shoulder jerks forward, a spurt of blood sprays from the wound and the soldier falls to the ground dead, Bucky sits up suddenly, suprise and alarm works across his face because he wasn't the one who pulled the trigger.
"Good shot Buck," Steve compliments.
"That wasn't me!"
"What do you mean? You just shot him!"
"I didn't shoot shit Steve!"
The realisation that there must be another sniper in the area dawns on the pair simultaniously. Bucky scans the buildings around them, looking for the glint of light reflecting off of a sniper scope or a figure dashing for a new perch but finding nothing. A small group of Hydra soldiers enter the street and split off individually to search the buildings leaving three soldiers stay behind to keep watch on the street. Bucky matches the crosshairs of his scope to a soldiers skull but blood spurts out the side of his head and he suddenly falls to the ground before Bucky can even get his index finger on the trigger. Frustration simmers in his blood.
"Okay, someone's stealing all my kills and I'm startin' to get pissed," Bucky mumbles to Steve, the blonde looks at the brunette with a mock concerned expression and a sarcastic smile just as Bucky aims and pulls the trigger, another soldier goes down with a heavy thud. Steve pulls on his helmet and drops down from the window into the street to engage in combat. Now with the immediate threats out of the way, Bucky abandons his mission of killing pesky Hydra soldiers and instead scans the stout apartment buildings through his scope, he positions his rifle at a window in the third floor of a decrepid and crumbling building just in time to see the butt of a sniper rifle whip round a corner and out of sight.
"Gotcha," Bucky murmurs, he scans the building again, a shadowy figure darts past a shattered window and can be seen leaping gracefully from building to building afew moments later, nimble feet that propel and lean but strong arms that lift assist the unknown sniper. Bucky notices things, he has to because he's a sniper. He notices the mysterious snipers small height, their slender arms, their waist and hips too accentuated and curved to be a man. It was wrong to make assumptions though. The theory still stood but he needed evidence before he could play judge, jury and executioner.
The figure disappears, Bucky surrenders to the strong urge to follow the sniper, he rises to his feet, his legs feel numb from crouching for so long so he waits for feeling to seep back into his legs before sprinting through the corridors until he meets the edge of the building, he skids to a stop, peers over the edge and hesitates. The closest ledge of another building is at least 5 meters away. How the hell did this sniper do this?
Bucky takes a few steps back for a running start, he sprints and catapults himself across the gap, his feet find solid ground and for a few seconds he thinks hes done it but... then his foot slides on the crumbly material.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit," his mind chants over and over in his head.
His hands stretch out to grapple onto anything for him to hold onto as his body plummets, just as his left hand nearly goes over the ledge, ice cold slender fingers sieze both his wrists and hauls him over. He pants, adrenaline thundering through his veins and a faint pleasant tingling sensation where his saviours hands were wrapped around his wrist.
Speaking of his saviour, he looks up, a woman stands before him, clad in deep black clothing, a black mask secured over the lower half of her face, her skin is pale, saphire blue eyes stare back at his own, chocolate brown hair restrained in a long braid cascades down the womans shoulder. She offers her hand to pull him up which he gladly accepts. As soon as their skin meets, a bolt of lightning seems to shoot up Bucky's arm and evidently the woman feels it too. They jerk their hands away from eachother immediately.
The pair lock eyes, a wave of familiarity washes over Bucky even though he had never seen this woman in his life. He feels as if he should know her. Feels as though he should protect her at all costs. He feels as if... as if a void deep in his soul had been filled. She reaches up and with a faint click she removes the mask.
"I found you--." Was all the woman could say before a gunshot shatters the silence, a bullet whistles through the air and embedds itself in Bucky's thigh, a yell tears from his throat as he collapses. His head is spinning because of the blood seeping out of his body and his eyes close, the woman attacks and kills the shooter before returning and frantically doing all that she can to stop the bleeding.
Her ice cold hands slick with blood cups his jaw, the last thing he hears before the darkness consumes him is the woman's voice. Her voice sounds sweet and kind. He subconsciously nuzzles into her palm.
"No! You can't go! Please! I just found you..."
