Chapter 20: Try Not to Fall! {Asch's Route}

~(Y/n)'s PoV~

        "Today, you will face the most daring challenge of your life..." I say, my tone radiating dramatic energy as my eyes scanned over the boys. I watched as their expressions changed from those of irritation and boredom to intrigue, and in Noi's case, fear.

        Ava's face pales. "Oh no..."

        "Where did you take us, Pet?" Asch inquires, folding his arms over his chest.

        I silently cringe at the nickname, straightening my posture and smirking at the group. "To a place where only the bravest and most determined humans succeed... the roller rink."

        Rhys raises a hand to his chin, curiously. "And what is this... roller rink?"

        "A roller rink is where humans learn to find balance in their stance. Your goal is to figure out how to move around with wheels under your feet and try to fall as little as possible."

        I turn around to enter the building, letting the boys and Ava trail behind me. We get in the small queue so I can pay for our entry. From there, we have a view of the rink itself. The long oval of wood flooring is nearly vacant, only occupied by a few couples and some children.

        I guess we lucked out this time...

        "That seems easy enough." Leif remarks. "It's just... moving in a circle, how hard can it be?"

        "Trust me, it's a lot harder than it looks..." Ava mopes. "Can't I just go hang out in the arcade instead?"

        I smirk slightly. "Only if you take some of the them with you." I gesture to the Daemos.

        She scrunches up her nose. "Why?"

        "Ava!" I gasp, melodramatically, placing a hand over my chest. "And here I was thinking this was a sharing relationship! They're your responsibility too, y'know!"

        I make puppy-dog eyes at her, getting a yielding sigh from her. "Fine... I'll take some of them with me."

        I clap, happily. "You're the best, Ava!" I lean over, giving her a quick, one-armed hug.

        Her face flushes, ever so slightly. "Yeah, yeah... who wants to come to the arcade with me?"

        Noi tilts his head at her. "What's that?"

        "It's a place full of games where you collect tickets and win prizes." She explains, using her dramatic sorceress tone of voice.

        Leif and Noi's eyes fill with stars. "Prizes?!"

        Ava nods. "Yep."

        "So, it's like a competition then?" Leif questions the ravenette.

        She shrugs. "I guess it can be..."

        I turn away from their conversation to pay for the group at the counter, still listening to the boys talk.

        "This is my chance to prove that I'm better than you!" Noi exclaims.

        "In your dreams." Leif retorts, smugly. "I'll be the one to win the prize!"

        They get so caught up in their argument that we basically have to drag them out of the queue. "Anyone else coming?" Ava asks, reluctantly.
