Bad had sent them into town to pick up some of "New Hampshire's finest icecream" as he called it, claiming he needed it for dinner that night. Dream was inclined to believe he didn't need it for dinner, so to speak, but rather for afterwards.
Clay didn't drive much in his hometown, so when Darryl pushed him behind the wheel and in charge of both Sapnap and George, of course there had been mishaps.
"I don't even have a license and I know the car isn't supposed to be in reverse right now!" George yelled from the back seat as the car rolled dangerously close to a tree.
"Are you trying to kill us?" Sapnap added, clutching the door handle with white knuckles.
"I need everyone to shut up for all of three seconds," Dream wheezed despite their complaints, but the others shared a gaze of worry. "Look, I haven't driven in a few weeks, but I know what I'm doing."
"Yea, okay buddy. Keep telling yourself that." Sapnap groaned, pulling out his phone and the directions to the ice cream parlor where their frosty treats were waiting. "Why did Bad make you drive anyway?"
"'Cause I'm the oldest, and therefore the most mature." Clay stated confidently, despite the fact he had just been able to maneuver the car out of the driveway and onto the road.
"Oh?" George giggled in the backseat, crossing his arms. "You sure don't act like it."
"Oh, piss off Gogy." The raven haired boy waved his hands carelessly. "Both of you are the definition of children."
"Aren't you the one who dived head first into an inflatable?" The british questioned, and Clay laughed at his little jip.
Sapnap fought for the upper hand, searching his brain (which was admittedly filled with cobwebs in Dream's opinion) for something to shoot back with. However, it hadn't exactly been the best plan, as he blurted out the first thing on his tongue.
"Aren't you the one who dated someone since sophomore year and didn't tell anyone?"
Absolute pin-drop silence filled the vehicle as Sapnap registered what he had said. He glanced from the blond to the rear view mirror, where George's jaw hung slack.
"W-what do you mean?" The brit asked hesitantly, glancing from Dream to Sapnap for reassurance, but Dream's face remained drawn.
"Don't play stupid with me please. Did you really think I wouldn't catch on?" Nick turned in his seat as to face George and Clay as he confronted them. "You two were together, and it's painfully obvious. Well, it was." He frowned, immediately regretting saying a thing.
"Keep your mouth shut, Sapnap," Clay warned quietly. "It was a secret for a reason."
"But how did you know?" George whined worriedly, no doubt afraid others had noticed. He fiddled with his fingers, picking at the nails.
"The three of us were inseparable since middle school. Of course I noticed. And everything changed in sophomore year and then it changed again the night before gr-"
"That's enough," Dream interrupted. "Thanks for the monologue, but I really think it would be beneficial for all of us if everyone forgot this talk existed."
"Fine." It took a lot of willpower from Sapnap to stop himself from clapping back, but the stone cold glint in his friend's jade eyes said enough.
The rest of the drive was spent in uneasy silence that nipped at their minds, as each one struggled to find something to say that wouldn't ruin the moment. Not a single word could be found.
.
"Aww, thank you muffins!"
Bad gestured to their arms that were weighted with a few pints of icecream. Ant and Red seemed to become Bad's little henchman, and they wordlessly took the frozen diary and stashed it in the freezer.
