Chapter Eighty-Five

Start from the beginning

"Wow," Emmett said, putting down his paper. "Done already?"

"Ha! Hand it over," I teased, holding out my hand and watching happily as he pulled out a twenty and placed it into my hand.

Bella watched us with her brow furrowed in confusion as Edward rolled his eyes at us, a small smirk appearing across his face.

"How did you even know?" Emmett complained, leaning back in his chair and dramatically sighing at his loss.

"Because they have a baby that they love and adore," I say simply, flashing the couple a beaming smile. "Renesmee's outside with Rose. Which means that Jacob is very sad."

Jacob looked away from the window and sent me a glare as he took another bite out of his sandwich.

"Stare at them any longer and I'll start calling you a stalker," I tease, watching as he rolled his eyes and stuck his tongue out at me. Without even bothering to offer me a witty response, he turned right back around and went back to watching Rose and Renesmee from the window.

"Break a lot of stuff?" Emmett asked, smirking as he raised an eyebrow at the couple.

"Emmett," Bella warned, sending him a look.

He just chucked as shared a glance with Carlisle, who just rolled his eyes and chuckled at his childishness.

The sudden sound of the phone ringing made us all freeze, our smiles slowly being wiped off of our faces as we shared a look.

Bella unraveled herself from Edward's side and took a few hesitant steps forward as she stared at the phone in guilt. "Is that Charlie?"

"He's been calling twice a day," Edward confessed, watching his wife carefully.

"He's in pretty rough shape," Jacob continued, finally pulling his attention away from the window and turning around to look at Bella.

"Eventually, we'll have to tell him that you didn't make it," Carlisle said solemnly.

"He needs to mourn, Bella," Edward said quietly.

Surprisingly, Jacob nodded his head in agreement.

"Okay," she said finally, "we'll do it tomorrow."

Emmett sighed as he put his paper down once more. "I'm gonna miss this place."

He paused and looked around the room solemnly before slowly making his way out of the room. No doubt starting to make his way toward wherever Theo and Jasper were.

"We'll come back," Carlisle said, signing as he looked back down at his papers. "We always do."

"Wait," Jacob said, turning to look at us all. "Nobody said anything about leaving."

"Once people believe Bella's dead, we can't risk anyone seeing her," Carlisle explained.

"So you just disappear?" He said, unwilling to believe that we would leave over that. Unwilling to believe that we would take Renesmee with us and, most likely, thousands of miles away from him.

"Jacob, we don't have another choice," Edward said sorrowfully, knowing how much it would hurt Charlie to take the news, as well as for Jacob to potentially leave his family.

Jacob looked down in deep thought before leaving the house, jumping onto his motorcycle, and zooming away.

"Well, this isn't going to end well," I warn, leaning back in my chair and sharing a glance with Edward.

Sitting back against the chair, I sighed as I listened to Jacob explain what he had done.
