This happens waaaay too many times in published books.

It may be good. It may be bad. I don't know why do you even trust me with this information?

This is just my opinion:

DON'T RUIN YOUR CHARACTER'S FUCKING LIFE!!!

Let me give you examples of published books that did this.

Rick Riordan:

He basically ruined all his character's lives but oh well.

She ruined Keefe's life!! You can't argue with that if you've read KotLC.

(Honestly, KotLC isn't about the story anymore. It's about the ships.)

And well sometimes hardships are good for your character. Sometimes they're bad. Just don't over do it or it won't seem realistic. (of course if you're going for unrealistic then cackle away)

But idk, it could be good for character development, but tons of readers will hate you (and love you for creating the character) for doing this to a character they like.

But I can't say I'm not guilty...
