"what're you doing here?" you yawned, looking to properly see vinnie now.

"i got worried, y/n. you haven't contacted me in over," he paused, looking at his phone for the time, "like sixteen hours now." your eyes widened, and you scrambled around your desk, arranging papers and slamming your textbooks closed. vinnie furrowed his eyebrows at your actions, moving to try to grab your wrists to stop you. "y/n, what're you-"

"fuck, i forgot to meet a classmate," you groaned, grasping your head in your hands in disappointment. vinnie let go of you and waited for you to continue. "we were supposed to have a study session at six to review and.." you trailed off, a frustrated sigh escaping your lips. "damnit," you whispered, feeling the familiar heat build behind your eyes at the thought of losing out on a study session, or letting a colleague down.

"hey," your boyfriend soothed, recognizing the hiccuped breaths you were failing to hide. "y/n, look at me." you shook your head and buried your head further into your arms, letting a strangled breath escape your lungs. he frowned deeply at the sight of you like this, and reached out to tug at your waist, you slowly leaning into his embrace, gently falling back into a sitting position on the floor. you hid your face in the crook of his neck, and he nuzzled his nose into the top on your head, tightening his arms around you, moving one hand to rest against the back of your head, burying his fingers into your hair. with your legs resting on one side of his body and you turned sideways in his lap, it would've been an awkward position but you and your body were too tired to care.

"i didn't-- i have to, to-- please--" you suddenly fought his arms, wiggling in his grasp, your cheeks sticky with tears and matted hair and heavy breathing.

"y/n, slow down," he mumbled into the top of your head, hoping that the soft tone would do something to sooth your mind. seeing you so worked up over school shot ice down his spine; school wasn't supposed to do this to someone, and he knew that whatever facade you'd been hiding behind had finally crumbled to the ground, revealing the girl that he loved so dearly, cracked at the edges but still perfect nonetheless. his wishful thinking failed him, though, as you continued to fight to get out of his arms, slightly digging your nails into the tops of his hands as they gripped tighter on your waist.

you squirmed and thrashed, planting your heels into the floor to push off of him, the embrace suffocating you. "vin--" you hiccuped, "i-- really, p-please, just let me-- i can't--" you didn't know what came over you, you'd never been like this before, or felt like this. a deep burn ached through your veins, and you were desperate to get it out. you began to hyperventilate out of pure panic, not understanding what was going on inside your body.

vinnie knew he had to act fast, even if he genuinely didn't understand what was going on with you, so he moved his hands from your grasp and slid you off his lap, gripping your waist to turn to face him. he gently caged your face in with both of his hands, using his thumbs to wipe the tears from under your eyes. "look at me, baby," he coaxed, directing your jaw forward, keeping his hands soundly over the sides of your face.

you opened your eyes, sore from clenching them so hard, and looked at his gaze, welcoming and warm and everything you knew would distract you. you shook your head violently, moving your hands on top of his and attempted to pull them away, but he fought you, keeping your gaze locked on him.

"y/n, it's okay, i swear--" your breathing picked up even further after that, your chest heaving for a decent breath before a cry forced itself out of your mouth. he dragged you closer, your hips bracketing his legs and you continued to fight it, pushing against his hand that slowly brought your head down to his shoulder, right beside his collar bone. "i'm right here. i'm right here, you gotta breathe, baby," he murmured, still holding you tight against him. your ragged breaths dusted over the exposed skin on his neck, and he wished he could make your pain go away and stress disappear and make you smile. god, he'd do anything to make you happy again.
