"But why set us up? Why the note in the park?"

"I wanted you guys to know I was ready to confess, but I didn't think anyone would actually pick it up."

"You sick son of a bitch. How could you have the heart to kill your own daughter?" Liam is fuming.

"Well, apparently I didn't considering that she's standing right here. You got what you wanted didn't you? Now you can go."

"Not so fast. Madeline Olivia Meyer you are under arrest for murder in the first degree. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you can't afford one one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights that I have just read to you? With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me?" Ray puts her in handcuffs  and walks her away and they get in his car. I run out the door before they drive away.

"Ray! Wait!" He steps out of the car.

"What's up Maddie?"

I give him a hug. "Thank you. For everything."  He returns the gesture and smiles.

"It's my pleasure. Hey, if I don't see you guys any time soon, take care of Liam for me, alright?"

"I will. But wait, isn't there going to be a trial? Or at least a hearing?"

"Since the case is a little over a year old, it might be considered a cold case. We'll see, but there might not be. If there is I'll let you know."

"Thanks again Ray."

"Anytime." With that he drove away. I walked back in the house, and Liam was there with a smile on his face.

"We did it. We got our answers." I said with joy.

"I can't believe she would do that though. I would never heave the heart to do that."

"You're such a mushball, you know that?" I pulled him in tight, and kissed him. He gladly kissed back. We continued to kiss for about five minutes, but it was amazing.

"You have no idea how long I've waited for that to happen."

"Well I do love you. I think you've known that for a while."

"Yeah I have. I love you too."

"Now, I don't know about you, but I need to go to Damian's funeral. His parents left me a voicemail asking me to write a eulogy and everything. It's tomorrow. I feel like I should go."

"Yeah you definitely should. I'll come."

"You sure?"

"Of course."

"Thank you."

"I'll take you back to my house and buy you some clothes. Will you need a dress or anything?"

"Yeah just get me a plain black dress in a size six. If you can, can you please grab me some jeans and tee-shirts too?"

"Yeah sure. Let's go."

                                                                                   ~

Today is Damian's funeral. I don't know how everything is going to go. For starters, I've never met his parents before. I also have to talk in front of everyone about Damian. Let's just get this over with. Liam picked out a nice dress for me. It's plain black with straps coming over the sweetheart neckline, and it has a nice flow to it.

"Please be seated. Damian was a good kid. Genuinely nice, there when people needed him, a good friend, and so much more. Let us pray. God we hope that you will watch over Damian as he moves on through the next stage of life, and allow him to watch over us Now, we are going to hear a few words from Damian's friend, Maddie Meyer."

"Hello. My name is Madeline Meyer. Honestly, I didn't know Damian that well, but it felt like I knew him forever. There's this weird thing about pain. It's beautiful, really. Whether you have an infected wound or you're shedding tears, it's almost like without pain, there would be nothing. It allows us to open up to others because in the end, if we felt no pain, life would be frozen. What happened to Damian was unfair. He didn't deserve it. I wish that I could have known him a little better, but he will always be with us. I love you Damian."

The funeral continued as it should. People paying condolences, looking at the coffin, leaving, crying, all happened. I walked up to Damian's parents and I of course apologized for their loss. I also told them how I wish we didn't have to meet this way, and that I would love to know more about Damian and themselves. They said they would like that. I gave them each a hug, and Liam took my hand and left.

"You did really well up there. Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm okay. Just sad."

"Come on. Let's go home."

"Home?"

"Madeline Meyer, I think we can consider ourselves boyfriend and girlfriend now, don't you think?"

"I think so."
