Harry.

I stand at the counter waiting for our order to be ready. I stand there looking at the girl I have been in love with for the past 3 years. She is messing with her phone. She is oblivious to everything around her. She is the prettiest girl in the diner. And she’s my best friend.

She doesn’t know what I want her to know so badly, but it’s the act of approval that I’m afraid she wouldn’t be okay with. What if that changes us? That I could never think of.

“Order 47.” A voice calls out. I take the tray with our food and make my way to the table.

“Do you need anything else?” I ask her before I sit down.

“I’m fine.” She says quietly with a small smile. She doesn’t say much after that, and pays more attention to the food than anything else in the restaurant.

She is in one of her moods again. I never know what is wrong with her. I can never seem to help her. I want her to explain to me, and I want to understand. She never gives in though.

“Are you okay?” I ask her after the silence has become too much.

“I’m fine.” She says simply again.

“You’re sure?” I ask not truly buying it.

“Why wouldn’t I be okay Harry?” She asks me. I know if I say much more about it she will just burry herself deeper and want to leave.

I shrug and give my head a small shake as to tell her that I understand her question, and that I will let it go. I wish it was true.

She goes back to her meal and I catch myself gazing. I usually hide the feeling pretty well but it’s days like today that I can’t. Seeing her in this state wrecks my heart. It makes me love her more. It makes me wish she was mine so I could wrap her up in my arms and make the sadness I see go away.

“Can I take you somewhere?” I ask.

“Aren’t we somewhere now?” She asks looking at me with a grin on her face.

“Somewhere else.” I smile at her. “Come on.” I take the tray with one hand and her hand with the other.
