Chapter 9: Raindrop

I just finished taking a shower.

I grabbed the towel that's barely hanging on the hook and put it over my damp hair.

I walked towards the window and opened the curtains.

It's still raining so hard and I can see this blurry yet amazing view of the city lights.

I rubbed the towel against my hair as I stare at the raindrops on the glass.

My mind suddenly has taken me to revisit a memory.

It was in my second year in college, in a coffee shop, I and Jordan were reviewing for the final exam.

It's still 3 PM but the atmosphere is already dim.

I'm blowing off the moist on my glasses because it's cold in the coffee shop and it's making my glasses blurred when Jordan suddenly speaks.

"Saang part ka ba nahihirapan? Baka alam ko 'yan." (Which part are you having a hard time? I might help you.) he asked.

It's also raining that afternoon. We are sitting near a big glass window.

The window was hazy, zero visibility, just like how my glasses turn when I breathe.

I was hugging my backpack while reading my notes.

"Yung hypothesis testing, alam mo ba?" (Do you know about hypothesis testing?) I asked him.

"Di ko pa eh." (I'm afraid I don't.) he answered.

"Yung chain rule?" (How about chain rule?)

"Uhmmm, wala pa 'ko diyan." (Uhmmm. I'm still working on that one.)

"Trigonometric substitution?"

He shook his head.

"Supply and demand?"

He shook his head again.

I sighed.

"May iba ka pa bang hindi alam?" (Any other topics?) he asked.

Is he for real? I almost completed the exam's coverage.

"Kalimutan mo na. Alis na tayo dito. Sobrang boring eh. Ano one game?" (Forget it. Let's go. This place is boring. Game for a game?) I suggested.

He pulled a poker face I often see when he's so done with my laziness.

"Uy g*go, final exams 'to oh. Seryosohin mo naman." (Hey d*ckhead, this is finals. Can you be more serious about this?) he clamored.

"Bakit mo ba gusto dito? Ang mahal naman ng kape nila. Dapat samin nalang tayo, pinagtimpla nalang kita." (Why do like this place so much? Their coffee costs a fortune. I should have made you one at my place.) I defended.

He smiled.

"Bakit?" (Why?) I wondered.

"Wala. Na-a-amaze lang ako." (Nothing. I'm just amazed.) he said.

"Saan?" (Because what?) I asked.

"Sa 'yo." (Because of you.) he pointed. "Kahit kasi rich kid ka, di ka tulad ng ibang mayayaman na tambay sa mga coffee shop." (Even though you are a rich kid, you are not like other rich people who are always hanging out in a place like this.) he added.
