The group managed to get away from Annie's dad and get to Bertholdt's house. His parents weren't home which was a relief so they didn't have to explain what just happened.
When they got there and could catch their breath. Mikasa realized how bad Annie really looked. She had a black eye and a scare running across the side of her head. It was scabbed over now but that only made Mikasa feel worse that she hasn't gotten there in time to keep her from getting hurt.
Annie leaned against the wall and rubbed her wrist. "Did you twist your wrist?" Mikasa got up from the floor and walked over to the blonde. She flinches away when she tried to touch her but eased up. She had twigs, grass, and dirt in her hair. It looked a mess. Her knuckles were bloody too. Mikasa rolled up her sleeves and saw the bruises that covered her arm.
She helped Annie get to the couch an lie down while Bert called his parents to try and keep them away from the house and Reiner called the police.
Mikasa stayed by Annie's side until the police came. She didn't like that she had to leave her, it became obvious to her now that Mikasa, Bert, and Reiner were really the only ones Annie actually trusted and felt safe around.
