Both of the twins could tell what's on each other's minds. They weren't angry, sad, or frustrated because they just felt relieved. It's not like someone will care or cry for them. The thing that they always joke about half heartedly came true.
[Is it okay?]
[I don't know,]
The twins thought like they were just communicating mentally.
"So...are we staying here?"
Lipe asked. If they could stay in this peaceful place after they died, then she didn't find any problem. She and her twin brother wanted peace and rest. All of these expectations crumbled when Pen answered her.
[[ No but I can send you to a better place. First, you need to do me a favor. ]]
"A favor?"
"What is it?"
Lipe and Lupe both had a question face. Why does this person want a favor? He looks like someone with magical energy or something, referring to how he called for them and appeared in front of them. Now that they thought about it, they haven't asked who the guy is.
"Who are you? Are you somehow a spirit or a god?"
[[ Hmm... Not a god but maybe a spirit or something like that. ]]
Pen tilted his head and grabbed his chin while he added.
[[ The book you just read recently, I wrote it. ]]
The two flinched at the shocking information.
"What book? There's a lot of books we read,"
[[ The book titled The Bastard's a Hero. ]]
Lupe knew that book, because he's the one who read it first. He got it from a library when he was hiding from someone.
The Bastard's a Hero is a story about a guy from the modern world whose soul and memory got transferred to a fantasy world. He became the illegitimate son of Duke Cadmael. This illegitimate son's name is Alfred Cain Cadmael, the bastard. To prepare for the great war, he sets on a journey to become strong and meet companions along the way. At the climax of the story, Alfred died and that triggered the snake dragon to go on a rampage. The war ended because of the snake dragon but that didn't stop destroying and killing everything that it could see. Alfred's companions took responsibility for the dragon and put it to rest. Out of those companions, only the great mage remained. After the war, the great mage disappears with his friends' corpse, the snake dragon, and also Alfred's.
A sad but satisfying ending.
"Are you kidding me?"
Lupe finds this situation unbelievable. How is it that a suspicious someone claimed he wrote a book and published it in the modern time?
"Lupe, maybe we were drugged. What to do?"
Lipe whispered beside him. She too finds this suspicious.
