CHAPTER 1

My name is John Pondsley. I'm a 24-year-old, and I'd say I'm generally a good person. My father was a lawyer for hit and run situations and my mom was a doctor, and I, am on death row. Charged for theft, robbery, and the murder of two people. My parents. Now, if I'm being honest, I didn't do any of them. It was my little brother, Jake, he's in his last year of high school, and eighteen years old. All my life, I've tried to set him on a good path in life. I wanted him to have a nice house and wife, a great job, and nice kids. And I gave everything I had to make that happen. But the thing is... my brother isn't a good person. But regardless, I love him, he's my one and only little brother. And right now, I'm walking down the hall to be put to death. Wearing an orange jump suit, two guards on my side. Just ahead of me two steel doors laid ahead. My curly blond hair dipping down getting in eyes. The guards were being wary of me because I'm very bulky.

"LET HIM GO ASSHOLES!"

I turned around to see my brother running towards me. His blond hair cut short, wearing a leather jacket and jeans, a small scar on his lip he got from a fight. He punched the guard on my left and kicked the guard on my right in the groin. He grabbed my arm and tried to pull me with him. I stood my ground and he looked back with a worried face.

"Jake, just let it happen. Its better me than you."

"No! Dammit, you always do this! Stop trying to take the wrap for all of my screw ups!"

I looked him in the eye. I could see he had tears building up in his eyes. I held his hand, and smiled at him.

"Jake. You're my little brother. I would do anything for you, and I will NOT let them kill you."

I hugged Jake tightly. He squeezed me tight, and before I knew it, we were both crying. The guards quickly recovered themselves and two more guards came from the opposite room, pulling the two of us apart. The two guards held my arms behind my back, pulling me to the two steel doors. I looked back, to see Jake being dragged away from me, he struggled, trying to get free from the guards grip.

"LET HIM GO DAMMIT! I DID IT! I KILLED THEM! LET MY BROTHER GO YOU BASTARDS!"

They ignored his shouting dragging him away. They opened the steel doors, revealing an empty room with a steel chair in the middle of the room.

"Sit in the chair and this will be over quickly."

I didn't resist at all. I sat down in the chair and let them strap down my arms and legs. The guards held a syringe filled with a purple liquid, pushing the needle into my neck, injecting the liquid into me.

"Any final words?"

I looked up, tears running down my face.

"May God damn you all to hell."

My vision started to fade, and before I knew it, I was crying tears of blood and vomiting blood violently. And then, I died.

"JOHN PONDSLEY. RAISE YOUR HEAD."

My head felt like it was being pulled backwards, and suddenly, I opened my eyes. I was standing in pitch black darkness, wearing the orange jumpsuit still. There were three masks floating in front of me, only about five feet away. The one on the right was a frowny face, the one on the left was a smiley face, and the on in the middle looked like it was outraged.

"WELCOME TO PURGATORY. WE ARE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE."

They all talked in unison.

"WE WILL NOW DECIDE YOUR FATE."

Suddenly a giant slate of glass floated up from the complete darkness and people that I knew flashed all over it, hundreds of voices started talking at the same time.

"SPEAK OF JOHN PONDSLEY!"

"He helped me get off drugs."

"He kept the loan sharks away from my house."

"He beat the crap out of me when he saw me smoking in high school."

"He was the top of his class."

"He's a good for nothing delinquent."

"He was always such a good kid."

Thousands of other voices kept coming in, too many for me to keep track of. The three floating masks spoke in soft whispers to each other, but I could tell what was happening. Their choice, would decide if I go to hell or heaven.
