BRANWEN
Two days later Dean and I were standing around the gymnasium, waiting for class to end. Today was yet another volleyball day, which was basically the only sport that I was a little good at. Right on the day that we had received the note, the doctor called us and said I was able to get my cast removed. Of course, I jumped on the opportunity to get it off, but I needed to be careful with the leg. Dean had stayed on the sidelines with me, just bumping the ball back and forth.
When I got the cast removed, Dean and I kept the note in our minds and tried to think about what it had meant. Yesterday, we looked again over the book with Mr. Marty but nothing came up. My frustration was building up, to say the least.
"To be honest, I'm starting to think this whole thing is a hoax." I grumbled, putting the volleyball under my arm.
Dean raised his brow and leaned against the wall. His black shirt was sticking against him with sweat from the earlier workout our teacher made the rest of the class do. Since I just got my cast off, I was able to opt out. I stuck out my tongue at Dean, who elbowed me in jealousy.
"Just because we haven't found anything, doesn't mean there's nothing to be found." He cocked a brow.
I threw the ball at him so I could bring out the small piece of paper that Dean had drawn both symbols on. Nothing had changed since the last time I looked at it. "I wish there was someone we could ask about this." Was there such a thing as a situational professional or did I just make that up? It was difficult when you're all alone and trying to solve a mystery.
"Ask about what?" A voice came from my side and I jumped, instantly shoving the drawing back in my pocket. I looked to the side and there was Adrian, also in gym clothes, looking at me expectantly. His thick brows were raised as he followed my hand to my pocket. "What did you just hide?"
I turned in panic to Dean, who was instantly off the wall and next to me. "Just a piece of paper that I found earlier."
Adrian's eyes widened instantly. "Oh? What was on it?" I guess that wasn't the smartest thing to say, Adrian being very curious and everything.
I went to probably make the situation worse when Dean placed a hand on my shoulder. "Let him see it."
I instantly turned towards Dean, eyes wide. "What?"
Dean inclined his head and pleaded with his eyes to go along with it. I nodded and gave the paper from my pocket to Adrian's extended hand.
"We're trying to figure out a connection between these two symbols." Dean explained, taking his hand from my shoulder and pointed to the traces. "It's been a mystery to us, but we can't seem to figure it out."
Adrian waved Dean away as if shushing him. As soon as Dean stopped talking, I could tell that the wheels inside Adrian's brain began to work. He took his time examining the drawing and while he was doing so, I elbowed Dean in the side.
What? His eyes seemed to say.
I pointed discretely at Adrian. That's what. What are you doing?
Dean shook his head, shoving his hands in his pockets. After that, he made no motion to make eye contact with me.
Adrian's brown eyes seemed to widen as he examined the piece of paper and he nodded. "Alright. Can you guys meet me in the Cave after school today? I have an idea."
