“Duh, you’re on the deed. They can’t arrest you from your own home for trespassing. He has no official order to get you off the property.”

“No but he can have me arrested for disturbing the peace. And I don’t want my brother in my business. Because if he knew about this he would be mad at Aug forever, they just got back to a fully cool place. Rell holds grudges.”

“Fine. There’s a man that sets up his keyboard who sings and plays it for money in the park. I’ll ask him.”

“Some random park musician? Nic, no.” I laughed at how ridiculous this idea.

“Amby what do you have to lose? You want the truth? You have a lot to lose. Your entire family. Your kids getting caught up in a brutal divorce.  That’s going to affect them and not in a good way.”

“That’s true.” I sat down thinking about my kids.

“The man that you’re supposed to spend your life with? I mean look how far you guys have come. You’re going to end all of this over a kiss?”

“It’s not up to me. It’s up to Aug. And when he sets his mind to something he doesn’t let up.”

“Amb, you don’t think he misses you?” She looked at me like c’mon.

“I honestly don’t know. If he does, he doesn’t show it.”

“I bet if we go to your house right now, he’s sad as a little puppy right now. Your problem is you don’t want to fight for your marriage. You got as much ego as him”

“That’s not true.”

“Then why aren’t you willing to do anything to save it? If it’s that important to you. If he’s that important to you, why not do something crazy and ridiculous to show him how much you love him. I bet if he was trying to get you back he would do something crazy.”

“Yeah.” I smiled. “He would.” I chuckled.

“Than why not you?”

“I just can’t. I shouldn’t have to beg him to take me back tho.”

“That’s all ego. Has he not fought for you in the past?”

“Yeah.” I said thinking back to when he had.

“How did that make you feel?”

“Special I guess. That he wasn’t willing to give up, although I wanted.”

“Then there’s your answer Amby. Men, despite their macho bravado, want to feel special to. There ego needs it just as much as our does. And when you know someone is meant for you. When you know nobody else can take their place, then its not begging. It’s fighting. There’s a difference.”

“Deep down inside, that’s all he really wants to know Amb. Is that you’re willing to fight for him, as hard as he is willing to fight for you. If I believed him to be a 100% asshole, I would say forget it. But he really does seem like a great guy. I mean any man that will risk hand cramps writing 365 reasons why he loves you, isn’t it faking it. Trust me. Nobody in the world has the patience to do that. I saw you read one this morning, by the way. What did it say?”

I pulled the piece of paper out of my pocket, I carried with me all day. “You didn’t give up on me.”

“Now if that isn’t a sign from God, I don’t know what is.  So are you going to write the song?” She held out the pen and pad to me.

AUGUST P.O.V. –

“Pop-Pop.” Auggie came in my room and tried to climb on my bed.

I tried to help him. He wouldn’t let me.

“I big boy. I ca’ do it.” He eventually climbed up. “See.”

“I see. What’s up man?”

He laid with his head next to me.

“I want mommy.” He played with my chain on my neck.

“I want mommy too Auggie.” I sighed.

“Just call her den.”

“Can’t do that Auggie.”

“Why?”

“You’ll understand when you become a man one day.”

 “Understand what?”

“It’s hard to explain Auggie.”

“You no miss mommy?”

“Of course. It’s hurting my heart she not here.”

“Can I call ha?”

I sighed and called her. Then handed the phone to Auggie.

“Hello?” Amb said on the other end unsure of the new number.

“Mommy this Auggie.”

“I know your voice anywhere baby. I miss and love you sweetie.” Amb said excited to hear his voice.

“I miss you too. I still your favorite man?”

“You will always be my favorite man baby.”

“Yay! When you coming home?”

“I don’t know, I got to talk to daddy and see.”

“Pop-pop said his heart hurt you ain’t here.”

“Auggie.” I whispered mad as shit he said that.

“Did he really?”

“Mm-mm. He say he miss you too.”

“Alright wrap it up and tell your mother good-bye.” I told him, while holding my phone.

“Mommy I’mma talk to you later okay?”

“Alright sweetie. You sleep tight.”

“Okay, Pop-Pop wanna talk to you.” He let go of the phone and ran out the room.

I was going to kill that boy. I looked at my phone wondering whether to talk or hang up.

“Hello.” Amb said wondering if anybody was still on the phone.

“Yeah, I’m here.” I said dryly, trying to show no emotion.

“Auggie said you wanted to speak to me, what’s up?”

“Just wanted to see how your new car running?”

“Great actually. Thank you for that babe. I mean Aug. ”

There was an awkward silence.

“Aug I --.”

“Amb I gotta go. But Sata need her hair done in the morning so you can just ring the doorbell and I’ll let you in.”

“That’s fine. Bye.”

“Aight, bye.”

We hung up.
