Spencer still hadn't fully come to terms with the fact that he had "put a baby genius in you" (as you liked to tease him). It was pretty easy for him to just not acknowledge it, until you started showing.

It wasn't that he didn't want a baby genius with you. He did, and he was very excited about it. But the excitement at first was clouded by anxiety and nerves. He was constantly internally stressing that his genetics would pass down schizophrenia, even if he didn't have it or hadn't shown signs of it yet. He also worried that he wouldn't know how to take care of a child, or that your jobs at the FBI would put it in danger.

But underneath all that, pregnancy just really really freaked him out.

It had been that way several years prior, when JJ was pregnant with her first son, Henry. She had him feel Henry kick, and it gave him the heebie jeebies. He couldn't pinpoint why exactly. His genius mind knew all the ins and outs of conception and the growth of human life from a biology perspective, but in reality he couldn't wrap his mind around it.

You were determined to somehow cure his uneasiness.

"Hey, Spence!" You called from where you stood in front of your full length mirror.

He came skidding into the room, slightly out of breath from where he had raced up the stairs to the master bedroom, "Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are-"

He stopped as soon as you turned to the side, and he saw it. You were in shorts and a sports bra, grinning broadly at him.

"Check out the bump," you said sweetly, resting a hand on your now noticeably rounder stomach.

Spencer's gaping, surprised expression changed to one of confusion, "W-hen did that happen?"

You giggled at his unknowingness, "You know babies grow right?"

He blushed, "I know, I just...it happened so fast. Is it growing too fast?"

You walked over to him, cupping his face in your hands, "Spence, I can hear that big brain of yours racing. Calm down. Doc says she's growing perfectly on schedule."

"Sh-she?" His eyes looked ready to bug out of his head, his jaw dropping.

It was your turn to blush, "I may or may not have peeked at the results? Please don't be mad, you know how I got home before you since you were finishing paperwork and the envelope was with the other mail, and I just couldn't help it, I-"

"We're having a girl," he whispered, staring at you as if he hadn't heard a single world you said.

A smile spread across your face, "We are."

His hands started shaking and his breathing hitched, "Y/N, I-I don't know anything about girls!"

You laughed, "What do you think I am? A chicken?"

"That's different," he huffed, "I've been around boy kids, I've babysat for JJ and Hotch. But I don't know how to take care of a girl!"

You took his hands in yours, lacing your fingers in hopes of calming him before he had a full on panic attack, "Breathe for me, Spence. It'll be a learning experience for both of us. You love learning, right?"

He breathed deeply, "Yeah, I do."

"Well, you'll be learning a lot, not just about raising a girl, but raising a kid in general," you explained soothingly, "And I'll be right there with you. I've never done this before either, you know."

He nodded, gulping, "You're right. I'm sorry, I know that's probably not the reaction you were hoping for. I really am excited."

"I know you are," you smiled, pausing for a moment. You had an idea, "Can we try something?"
