33 Redemption

"Okay naman sa university although nangangapa pa ako. Buti na lang tinanggap nila ako kahit walang experience."

Only her tutoring job and the interpreter one.

"Swerte kaya nila sa'yo. Laude tapos nakapag-Kyoto pa. Di magtatagal, magiging asset ka rin nila."

"Baliw. Tama na muna ang tungkol sa'kin. Ikaw naman magkuwento."

They clank their glasses before Shane proceeded.

"Uhm kami ni ano..." she giggled and held out her hand with a wedding band on it.

Nanlaki ang kanyang mga mata. "Ikakasal ka na?"

"Oo day!" tili nito.

It wasn't Patrick, after all. He didn't pursue her, she said. Sinabi niya ang tungkol sa pagtanong-tanong nito noon. But Shane said, he never did a move towards her.

Later, Shane was reminded about the homecoming that Gustavio was sponsoring. Pinipilit siya nitong pumunta.

“Punta ka na. Sige na.”

“Titignan ko pa, Shane.”

She's still adjusting to her new work. She's also planning to pursue another master's degree dahil iyon ang isa sa mga requirements ng SUN. Ang dami niya pang ihahandang lessons at ppt sa susunod na mga klase niya.

“Grabe, hindi talaga maisisingit dyan sa hectic mong schedule?”

“Tatawagan kita kung wala akong gagawin.”

She eyed her suspiciously. “Oh baka naman may iniiwasan ka?”

She snorted. “Sino namang iiwasan ko?”

“Ewan mo?”

Napailing siya saka sumandal sa sofa.

“Ang tagal na no’n, Shane," she murmured, holding her glass of wine.

“Malay mo lang naman.”

If one day, she finds him and her heart would respond the same way, she wouldn't know what to do. But he's living miles and miles away from where she is. There's no need to fuss over that.

“Pero... Punta ka ha? Ayokong maging loner do’n. Dapat awra tayo.”

“Oo na. Sige na," sagot niya na lang dahil mukhang hindi ito titigil.

A couple of weeks passed by, she found herself preparing for the homecoming. It has been awhile since she attended a party which isn't work related. A night's party won't cost so much.

“Friend!” tawag ng pamilyar na boses.

Agad siyang lumapit sa table na kinauupuan ni Shane. She saw familiar faces. Most aren't recognizable. Ang dami na rin pala talagang nagbago. It's not just the hair, the body or the clothes they're wearing.

“Hay pumunta rin.”

"Baka kasi magtampo ka."

They chatted for awhile until someone, a girl they used to work with at the library came to their table.

“Diba naging kayo ni Ewan? Grabe ‘no? Parang kailan lang," anito matapos nilang magkamustahan sa iba't ibang bagay.

Napunta rin sa tungkol sa kanya.

“Hind naman kami nagtagal," she laughed.

“Sila pa ba ng girlfriend niyang model?”

She wouldn't really know. Wala naman siyang update ditom

“Model ba ‘yon?” another one said.

“Naku! Ayusin niyo nga ang chika niyo. ‘Yong kumpleto ha," Shane interrupted and glanced at her.
