Elly rushed breathlessly to the ruined village.
"Excuse me! Please, allow me to tend to the wounded." Elly bowed her head to one of the villagers, producing her staff.
"Why, thankyou m'lady." the old woman cooed. "You're far too kind."
"Nonsense. I'm merely doing my part." Elly smiled. Ever since Begnion was given rule over Daein, she had heard life was never as pleasant, but she never imagined it would be this bad. She remembered when she first heard of it...
"Elly! Elly! Where are you?" Ranulf called. Elly popped out from the garden.
"I'm here Ranulf. Did something happen?" Elly chirped.
"The king wants to see you. He says it's urgent." Ranulf told her. "He didn't sound too worried though..."
"Alright, I'll be there soon."
When Elly entered the chamber, she was immediately worried. Unlike Ranulf had told her, the king looked very distressed. Was he trying to hide his worry from Ranulf?
"King Caineghis? You asked for me?" Elly smiled.
"Ah, Elly...I need to tell you something." the king sighed. "You have heard of Daein's current situation, yes?"
"I have. Why?"
"Well..." the king hesitated. "You..."
Elly shook her head, snapping out of her little daydream. She needed to focus on her healing. She was almost done when she heard a cry.
"B-Begnion soldiers!" a villager wailed. Elly got up.
"Sir, please take the remaining wounded inside." Elly frowned, readying her magic. "I'll take care of this."
As the soldiers approached, Elly took a deep breath. The general stepped forward.
"You're the lass that's been getting in our way, aren't you?" he snapped.
"S-so what if I am?" Elly spat, trying to hide her fear.
"You little..." the general shook with rage as he lunged toward her. She quickly jumped out of the way and shot a burst of light out. One of the soldiers made a blind lunge and managed to get a hit on Elly's chest. She fell to the floor.
"H-hah! Is that all ya got, little lass?" the Begnion soldier taunted. Elly struggled to get back up again.
"I-If you think you can defeat me so easily, y-you're wrong!" Elly snapped, releasing a burst of flame and getting up to escape. Another soldier attempted to block her escape route, but the smallfolk of the village held him back.
"Go, m'lady! We'll hold them off!" one of the villagers cried. The soldier laughed and simply stabbed him. Elly stopped in her tracks and gasped, running to the injured villager's side.
"Do I really want to reveal my ability here?" Elly pondered. She looked at the pained look in the villager's eyes and decided it was worth it.
"Hah! What can you even do for him? Render his "noble sacrifice" meaningless?" the soldier laughed again.
Elly ignored him, her hands glowing as she used her Sacrifice to heal the villager, passing out from the effort.
"H-huh?! She's got the same ability as the Silver-Haired Maiden?!" the soldier gawked, picking her up at once. "This'll definitely earn me a promotion!"
More soldiers approached, blocking off the villagers as they took Elly away. Sothe watched from the shadows, running to tell the group of the situation.
