I woke to see an empty bed next to me, the sheets neatly done, Hester's cloak missing. "Must've woke early to make breakfast," I muttered softly so Dot wouldn't stir. I didn't smell any cooking fumes though, so I dressed in a long black dress, dark as night, and padded outside the cramped kitchen.
The room was empty, save for a few spiders, and so was the musty bathroom and dusty living room. My heart suddenly pumped with fear. Hester 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 went out this early. Never. I frantically looked around the house one more time, and seeing it empty, started to panic.
My suspicion of where she went was confirmed when I saw a girl's shadow head towards Nottingham Hill. I grew one of my rats into the size of a horse once I was outside the cottage, and raced there.

We reached the top in no time, and I saw a crazy sight. My pale hand flew to my mouth.
