Part 2: The Maze

Chapter 20

I knocked on Newt's door. He finally opened it.

"Hey M-" I cut him off by kissing him. The kiss was filled with passion. Time was frozen. I could feel my heart beating really fast. After what seemed like forever I finally pulled back.

"Maddie I...I-" Newt stuttered but I stopped him.

"Shh. I know. You don't have to tell me." I whispered. Newt cupped my face and brought me into another kiss. The kiss was sweet and soft but it was burning with passion. I shut the door behind me. Still kissing, Newt started walking backwards towards his bed pulling me with him. I laid him down and climbed on top of him. We kept kissing. Not wanting to stop. I was never going to let go of him. He flipped me over and trailed kisses down my neck. He used his hands to pull my shirt off then his. I looked at him. Examined every part of his upper body. He looked so good right now. He trailed more kisses going lower down my body. I loved the feeling of his hands on me. I pulled on his hair enjoying the feeling. More clothes were shed til eventually we were completely naked and examining each other with our eyes.

"You are so beautiful," Newt whispered.

"I could say the same," I whispered back. We continued kissing still not wanting to stop.

"I love you." I whispered.

"I love you too." He whispered back.

I woke up to the early morning sun shining through the window. I looked beside me and saw Newt fast asleep. I don't want to leave but I have to. I quickly and quietly slide out of bed. I give him a light kiss on the forehead then I go to my room to get ready for the day.

Me and Minho stop for lunch.

"Have you talked to Newt?" Minho asked. I blush remembering us kissing and more.

"Actually I uh confronted him after you told me about how he feels."

"And?"

"I didn't let him talk I just kissed him."

"And what did he do?"

"We may of made out for a couple hours in his bed. And I snuggled up against him all night." I said sheepishly. Minho's eyes grew wide with excitement. He stood up to his feet.

"Oh Newt! I just couldn't wait to kiss you! I'm so in love with you! You take up my every thought! You fill my dreams! Oh Newt! How have I survived this long without you!" Minho says in a girlish voice. He starts making kissing faces. I laugh.

"Minho you're insane."

"Thank you."

After we finished lunch we got up to continue our run. The Greenie alarm starts blaring in our ears. What's going on? It hasn't been a month. Thomas just got here yesterday. Minho also looks confused.

"I guess we should head back and see what's going on." Minho said. I nodded in agreement. Something weird is going on.

As me and Minho run through the doors and into the Glade we see Newt, Alby, and the other Keepers go into the Gathering building. Me and Minho run to the building.

I walk into the room and shouting fills my ears. Everyone falls silent though when they see me. I saw Newt looking at me and I wanted to go up and hug him but I stood my ground. I look at everyone else in the room. Minho closed the door behind me.

"What the shuck is happening?" I ask. All voices respond at once but I can't hear.

"Alright stop!" I shout. Everyone quiets down. I turn to Alby.

"Alby what's going on?"

"We got a new Greenie. A girl. She looked dead but she woke up saying that everything was going to change. She also had a note in her hand. It said that she's the last one ever. Unfortunately she's still unconscious so she can't answer any of our questions." Alby explained. I think. It's too strange. My gut is telling me that something is wrong. Something is happening.

"She said something else." Newt said. I turned to look at him.

"What?"

"When she was conscious she said a name."

"Who?"

"Thomas."

"The Greenie?"

"Yeah but he seemed confused like the rest of us." Newt said. This could mean a lot. If she knows his name then maybe she knows more.

"Did she remember anything else?"

"No. She fainted again after that." Newt said. I sat down in a chair next to him. I looked at the rest of the group.

"What all do we know?" I ask.

"Not much. There's a new girl that knows Thomas. Thomas has been acting weird since and he wants to be a Runner. There won't be anymore Greenies and that's about it." Alex explained.

"I guess I should go talk to Thomas then." I said. Everyone nodded in agreement.

"He's with Chuck." Newt said.

"Ok thanks." I said. I gave Newt a kiss on the cheek then hurried out to go see Thomas.

Thomas saw me and his eyes widened. But when I got closer his shoulders suddenly slumped like he was disappointed.

"You were expecting the new girl weren't you?" I ask.

"I guess." Thomas said. I sit down across from him.

"I heard you want to be a Runner. What's up with that?"

"I don't know. It's a feeling I have. Like I'm supposed to be a Runner. I can't explain it but I need to go out there. Into the Maze." Thomas said. He sounded confident about it.

"That's something I haven't heard from a Greenie before besides the ones with a death wish but you look like you don't want to die. I admire your confidence and bravery. I'll talk to others but you need to try out the other jobs too." I said. Thomas smiled. He was excited.

"Thank you." Thomas said. I nodded and watched Thomas go over to Chuck. It's nice to see that Chuck has a friend now. I get up and start walking over to the Homestead.

I knock on Newt's door. When he opens it I give him a kiss.

"What did you find out?" Newt said in between kisses. We sat down on the bed and I told him about my conversation with Thomas.

"...I told him it would take time and he would have to try out the other jobs. I have a feeling though that he's right. He's meant to be a Runner." I finished explaining.

"We'll give him a chance like everyone else. I have a feeling though that everything is gonna change." Newt said.

"Yeah me too." I said softly. Newt pulled me into a hug.

"Whatever happens we'll get through it. Together." He whispered. I ran my fingers through his hair.

"Together." I whispered.
