Chapter 12

We stood there for a few moments, staring at each other. I couldn't believe how much my best friend had grown. I mean, I hadn't really seen him or hung out with him since I was...oh I don't know...maybe eleven? Twelve? Or maybe even before then.

He looked really nice. His auburn, brownish hair slicked back and he must have been wearing his contacts because he wasn't wearing his glasses. I know Blake, and he's so blind without his glasses that I don't think he'd even notice a neon bus that had 'I'm going to run you over' written all over it. Then his onyx black tuxedo looked almost satin in the light, with his ruby red rose sticking out of the pocket.

I giggled. He actually didn't look half bad all dressed up. He extended his arms out, as if to show off his outfit, then he twirled around. I smiled and ran up to him and threw my arms around him. "Blake!" I screamed in his ear, but he didn't seem to notice because the music was so loud. "Hey, good to see you. When was the last time? Besides the time at lunch." He whispered in my ear. "Oh, I don't know...ages ago?" I guessed. He laughed. "Felt like that sometimes."

I unwrapped my arms and looked at his face. He looked a bit...awkward? Uncomfortable? I couldn't really find the right word. "Yeah, I know, right?" I laughed without much enthusiasm. "How're ya' surviving up here? I mean, considering you came from the Bahamas, you'd think that'd be pretty hard." He snorted. My face dropped and my heart sunk. The Bahamas...Oh...I thought I could go a week without thinking about it, or feeling the pain from it, but I guess not. I looked to the ground.

Blake shifted his weight from foot to foot. "Okay, I get it. Is it really that bad? I mean...I heard about you and..." He motioned toward the kitchen doorway. My eyes fluttered to the dark figure standing there, staring at me. I looked up and met Blake's eyes again. "Uh...Yeah..." I extended each word really long so that, possibly, Blake could forget about AJ. But, just my luck, he didn't. "Yeah, it's all over the school. I heard Trina's pissed." He said, seeming to kick something on the floor. "Trina? Oh..." I remembered the first day of school when Ivy and Kim came up and 'warned' me about AJ. They also told me he was interested in Trina, but that's apparently not the case.

"Yeah, Trina's doing...eh. Okay I guess. But, still. She's not saying anything good about you. I thought I should...let you know." He shrugged. Then looked up from the ground, back at me. My eyes grew big. "Why? That's stupid, I didn't even do anything! All I did was go on one date with AJ because he asked me and now we're boyfriend and girlfriend! End of story!" I didn't realize how loud I was until a couple standing next to us looked at us and started to dance away. I rolled my eyes, annoyed. Blake sighed. "I know. It's not fair. You didn't do anything I'm trying to calm her down." I stared at him. Why does Blake know everything about Trina?

"Why?" Is all I managed to say. "Because I hate it when she freaks out on me. She's so emotional sometimes. And, believe it or not, she can be pretty sensitive." I stared at Blake, trying to figure out what he was getting at, scrutinizing his expression. "What?!" Blake finally said. "You! You're...I mean...Why...How...I...How do you know so much about Trina? I don't even know the girl, but..." I stuttered. "I don't...I just..." He sighed and scratched his head. Again looking uncomfortable. "I just- let's not talk about Trina. Alright? I better get back to my friends." He hesitated then nodded. I nodded back. "Yeah, I should probably get back to-"

"Aaron?" Blake interrupted. I nodded slowly. "Yeah..." I said slowly. "Okay, well I'll text you later I guess. It's really nice to see you. It really is." He said, sweeping my body once with his eyes. He chuckled. I felt a little uncomfortable having my best friend check me out. I didn't want to correct him because I already asked him too many personal questions and I don't know if that was just my imagination or not. "Yeah. Same to you." I said. He laughed and waved one last time before walking away. Okay, I've seen everyone I wanted to, now I wanted home. Like now.

I looked at the kitchen doorway again and AJ was still standing there, staring. I sighed and walked over to him. When I approached him I wrapped my arms around his waist and layed my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close to him, like he always does. I felt his soft lips touch the top of my head, then I felt his head lay on top of mine. "I wanna go now." I mumbled. I felt him nod. "Okay." He sighed and adjusted me so that I was facing him now. "Good luck trying to convince Monica and Jordan." He nodded in their direction.

Not only did I need to tell Monica and Jordan, but I also needed to say thanks to Angie. I sighed. Great, I'm never gonna get out of here.
