Through the Grapevine

A/N: Pass the Poetry 2020 week of 06/19/2020 challenge- write a poem based on a popular metaphor.

Metaphor- I heard it through the grapevine

Words travel through

those deceitful vines,

bringing nothing but poison

from those rotten leaves.

Phrases that shouldn't be

brought to public ear,

for they travel with knives

that cut from the inside.

To hear through the grapevine

is only the first step,

then the secret remains,

digging a hole in its keeper's heart.

Take them back, vines!

No more words that bring

only pain. Keep them inside.

May you wither away.
