Chapter Thirty-Four: Okay, Now We're Mad

"Something tells me we might need it," Robin says. "By something, I mean these computer screens."

The team looked over at their hacker teammate. It seemed that he had finally got something off of the computers.

"What do you have, Rob," Gar asked him.

They gathered around him in a very similar manner to the classic scene of the Scooby Gang around Velma as she read a book.

"It seems that the Guys In White have been running a lot of experiments with the DNA of the mystics and demons," Robin said as he typed on the computer. "They've taken plenty of blood samples from all of them."

"What's DNA," Roland asked.

The scientist team members looked at the crystal beast mage weirdly. But then they realized that to a mystic, DNA would be a foreign thing that he would most likely have not heard of. Nor would have any of the other mystics that had no ties to the mortal world and their scientific ways.

"DNA is basically what science says what makes us... us," Karen explained, being the medical student. DNA is the molecule that contains the genetic code of organisms. This includes animals, plants, protists, and bacteria. DNA is in each cell in the organism and tells cells what proteins to make. Mostly, these proteins are enzymes. DNA is inherited by children from their parents. This is why children share traits with their parents, such as skin, hair, and eye color. The DNA in a person is a combination of the DNA from each of their parents."

"Uh... I'm just going to nod my head and smile because I understood barely even half of that," Roland said.

Bumblebee simply shrugged, having gotten used to people around her not understanding her scientific terms. Her own boyfriend was usually the prime example of that. Guardian had his own area of expertise and science was not his.

"What else is there, Rob," Mal asked.

The current Boy Wonder types some more commands into the computer.

"It looks like they are doing most of their experimenting on DNA fusion," he said, his eyes not leaving the screen. "There seemed to have been dozens of different types of attempts to fuse human and magical DNA. All of them are labeled as failures."

"That makes sense," White says.

"What do you mean, Siren," Kaldur asked as the team looked at the siren prince.

"There have been quite a few cases of mortals trying to obtain magical powers by stealing them from mystics or demons," White explained. "But magic and mortals do not mix, even inside their own bodies."

"Mortals can not handle our powers," Roland said. "They are not meant to have them like we are, so the magic basically turns against them from the inside. It drives them slowly mad so even if they obtain the powers with good intentions, those good intentions would not last for more than a day before they literally start losing their mind."

"Demons even have a specific species that deals with these kinds of things," Danny says. "They're called Power Broker demons. They literally can take the powers of other demons and turn them into spheres of magical energy that only they can give out. If another demon tries to take the powers, the Power Broker tends to throw them into the nearest mortal to them. The powers last a couple of days before the mortal gains access to the powers, goes insane, and then is burned from the inside out."

"So, they're trying to find a way to give their agents magical powers," Conner put two and two together.

The mystics nodded.
