Mum: you said you were going to that school dance with your friends..I left a dress on the end of your bed hope it's ok. Have fun darling, so sorry for being at work all day/night xx love you

Me: thx it's beautiful x

I've already put on the dress. It's quite short, above my knees,but not too short. Black with a silver sequin bodice.

Me: can't wait to c u x

Bae: me 2 what u wearing

Me: black n silver dress nm wbu

Bae: just casual

I put on some mascara and make-up. Rian and Sophia are meeting me to walk to the dance. It's in the school hall so it will only take about ten minutes to get there.

I walk to Rian's house and he opens the door with Sophia, they're both giggling and I grin.

Rian is staring at my dress and I pull down the hem a little, hoping its not too short. Sophia notices and gives Rian a friendly shove.

"We've got popcorn for while we wait, come on!"

We've been dancing as a group for half an hour but I've sneaked off a few times to text whoever it is I'm meeting.

"Guys I'm getting a headache from this music I'm gonna go outside for a while". I say, so I can text them.

"I'll come with you" Rian offers.

"No..no its fine."

I rush off whilst he is still protesting.

Me: hey u here yet??

Me: I'm at the hall can U meet me by the stage x

Bae: sure, I'll be by the dj x

Me: Kk x

"Guys I'm gonna go over there for a bit." I say to Rian and Sophia, pointing to the DJ.

"Ooooh she likes the DJ!" Rian whispers rather loudly to Sophia.
I blush and protest. "I so do not!"

Suddenly the music changes to a slow dance and Rian takes Sophia in his arms. They start dancing together and I turn away, but everywhere I look here are couples dancing with each other.

I can see Sophia and Rian, Tilly and Jamie, Alexis and Tom, Lucy and Tyler and many others from class. I feel swamped, like I'm going to faint. I stumble towards the stage and see Kieran standing there. He doesn't have a partner surprisingly. He's the only one by the DJ without one.

I get out my phone

Me: I think I'm gonna go I'm worried...things won't happen...the way I thought they would.

I click send and watch Keiran. His phone goes off and he looks down, reads it and starts walking towards me.

That's all I need. I push past random people and dart through the exit without looking back.
