Being a child was hard for Anna. Her parents were poor. They hadn't gotten hired in well-paid jobs. Her mother worked as a janitor at her school, while her sister made a living by working as a babysitter. Her dream was to get into college. She was really intelligent. Just how clever she was could leave everyone shocked. It'd be a shame if she missed this chance. Unfortunately it happened. You know her father never really talked about his job. Nobody knew why. Whenever her mother would try to lure him into talking to her about it, he would make up a silly excuse not to tell her. It was really suspicious. They all had their suspicions, but they thought, that it'd be better if they didn't bother him anymore. Her mother eventually was convinced that he was just ashamed of his job. Even though, their marriage was suffering because of these trust issues, she couldn't bring herself to get a divorce. They had little money.
"Mum why can't I be like the other kids in my school?" she asked, on a Friday afternoon. The sun had began to set. The sky was adorned with colors. A lot of colors. Blue, orange, purple, pink. The sight was spectacular. It looked like a painter's artistic work. Above these colors, hung like puppets on strings, black clouds. It was going to rain. Anna was jealous of these children in her school. They all wore expensive clothes from well-known brands. Their diamond necklaces and overpriced watches would shine under the sunlight every morning. Girls would wear earrings, hanging lightly on their ears and softly moving as they walked. Boys would wear boots, made by leather. They would all go on vacations to places, like Hawaii and visit the biggest and most fancy restaurants. They were given a chance to enjoy an extravagant lifestyle. They were the lucky ones, according to Anna's parents. Anna's family was unfortunately not that lucky.
Summer break was coming to an end and Anna's mother was obligated to stay overnight at her school, in order to clean it up. Mold covered the lockers, the chairs and desks having chewed up gums stuck under them, while the bathrooms were the dirtiest. And she had to clean this all up. Poor woman. Her sister had gone out with some of her stupid friends. However, none of them knew where her father was, but nobody questioned it.
"He's probably working at the garage again" Anna's mother said, before leaving.
It was 3AM by now and Anna couldn't sleep. Her gut feeling was telling her that something was not okay and that something had to do with her father's job. Her father was sleeping, so she sneakily made her way to the garage. She would finally find out what his job was about. Once she opened the door, she smelled blood. The smell was strong, filling her nostrils. Was her dad a butcher or something. She found the switch and turned on the lights. The room was dimly lit by a lamp, hanging from the ceiling. She felt like she couldn't breathe. There were lying corpses of girls. Too many to count. Their guts and organs were nowhere to be found. They were stuffed with cotton like a stuffed animal that you would win at a fair. Their eyes were gone and replaced with buttons. She let out a piercing scream. She then threw up her breakfast, lunch and dinner. Her father did that. Her own father. And then she saw the corpse of her own beloved sister. Her body was pale and her face violently bare. She was about to run to the phone to call the police, but her father appeared, wearing a creepy looking smile on his face.
"Do you like my dolls, Anna?" he asked, taking slow and light steps, approaching her.
"Aren't they lovely? I made them with my own bare hands. I sell them to some guys I know. I get a well paid to be honest" he continued. Anna was shaking. She was feeling like a wolf's pray.
"You know I was planning on making your mother, sister and you, dolls. I would then sell you,get paid and finally be able to live the perfect lifestyle with a rich woman. Not a worthless janitor like your mother. Now that you found out what my job is, I guess that it's time you became a beautiful doll. People will love you" he said. Anna was 13 years old. She couldn't die at such a young age. She wanted to live a perfect life, make friends,go on trips, meet the love of her life etc. She wouldn't allow him to kill her. She ran up to him and by using all of her power, she kicked his balls. He groaned in agony and fell to his knees. She hastily tried looking for a weapon. She saw a bat and sloppily grabbed it. She then hit her father. Hard. Hard enough to have him drop dead, his head starting to bleed heavily. She hit him again and again, until blood had splattered everywhere and his head was completely smashed. She threw the bat away and ran to the phone. She called the police telling them that someone had broke into their house. As soon as she gave them her address, she ran out of the house and into the forest near it. She ran and ran. She was covered in blood from head to toe. When she made it to the city, people who saw her, stared at her fearfully. They looked petrified. She started running again, using her remaining power to get away from New York's crowd. She bumped into a girl. She didn't look much older than her. She had green eyes and light brown hair. As she was about to run again the girl grabbed her by her arm and hugged her.
"I can feel that something terrible happened to you. Come with me I'll help you" she said. For some unknown reason, Anna got convinced by only those words. The girl took her to a van. She then excused herself and began talking to a woman. The said woman looked at Anna sadly.
"Come on get in" the green eyed girl said.
"I'm Mary" she continued. Anna couldn't form a sentence. She couldn't utter a word. After a while she broke down and told everything to Mary and that woman. They then knew that she deserved better. And just like Mary, she soon enough began training to become an assassin.
