"Mum look! I can finally ride a bike!" Mary said, excitement lingering in her voice. Her mother smiled at her warmly, wrinkles forming at the edges of the mouth. Her eyes were sparkling. Suddenly she started fading away.
"Mum? Where are you going? MUM?" She shouted. Her mother disappeared and the darkness engulfed her. She woke up, breathing heavily, gasping for air. She looked around the orphanage's room and realized that this all was just a dream. The same dream she's been having since her mother unexpectedly died. Nobody knows why. The doctors couldn't figure out the cause of her death. It was basically unknown. Her father had left them when she was born. She spent some of her childhood years with her mother. They did everything together. Cooking, shopping, cleaning up the house, going on walks. They were inseparable. At least until her mum's death. Tears were forming in her eyes, one dripping off her waterline. She had gotten used to it. Always having the same dream and waking up crying. Her friend Jennie sat by her side, rubbing her back gently, comforting her. She knew everything about Mary's life. She knew that her mum died and that her dad had left them. She was her best friend. The one she could always rely on. The one who had a shoulder available for her to cry on. Jennie was considered a life saver by Mary. She thought of her as a guardian angel, who came to reassure her that everything would be okay. She was so grateful for having her as a best friend.
"Shh, it's going to be okay. Just take deep breaths" Jennie told her. Mary finally calmed down. It was hard for a 13 year old to handle so much stress.
"Do you perhaps want to visit the counselor?" Jennie asked her. Mary shook her head no.
"It's Saturday and we don't have school. I think that it'd be better If we practiced our boxing skills" Mary suggested. Jennie nodded her head and smiled.
"Let's go then" she said. They got up, took a shower and changed their pajamas into sweaters and tracksuits. They then grabbed their gloves and went to the orphanage's gym. For an orphanage, it had a lot of facilities. Something that's quite surprising. They spent the whole morning practicing, talking and laughing. She almost forgot that she had this dream again. Almost.
Monday came around and it was time for school. The alarm clock was loudly ringing, the noise deafening and bothersome. Mary was already up. She had that dream again. She was crying. Jennie comforted her again. She was such an amazing girl. It's a shame that she lost her. It all happened this Monday afternoon. School was over and Mary was patiently waiting for Jennie to come, so that they could go back to the orphanage together. As she was waiting she heard noises. Specifically, shouts of agony. Someone was in pain. She followed the sounds, her black boots stepping on leafs and them making these utterly satisfying noises as they crashed under the weight of her shoes. She turned around a corner and her heart sank. Two boys where brutally beating up a poor boy. The said poor boy, had warm tears of pain rolling down his bruised and bloody cheeks. His nose was swollen and probably broken and blood was coming out of both his nose and mouth. He looked as If he would pass out.
"That's what you get for not doing my homework you nerd" one of the boys told the now probably fainted boy. Mary was frozen. She couldn't move an inch of her body. She could only stand there and watch as the two boys beat up the poor student to death. He wasn't breathing.
"Come on man, wake up" one of the two boys said, panicking.
"Yeah man, get up already" the other one said, shaking the boy. Mary audibly gasped. The two boys looked at her. Jennie suddenly came.
"Hey, I was looking for you what happ— OH MY GOD WHAT DID YOU DO?" She said feeling shocked. Students who hadn't left school yet gathered around them.
"SOMEONE CALL A TEACHER" Jennie shouted. Soon enough teachers came. Everyone was crying. The atmosphere was depressing. Ambulances came filling the air with noise. Mary was left speechless. Never did she believe, that she would witness such a scene. People like these do not deserve to live. That's what she was thinking on her way to the orphanage. That's why when Jennie left to go out at the evening, she lied saying that she would go for a walk, went to that skater park that these two boys used to hang out in, with their friends, lured them into following her and killed them using her bare hands. She was feeling satisfied.
Everyone was informed about their death. No one knew who did it though. Mary always felt a wave of satisfaction penetrating her, whenever the incident came up.
A day passed and Jennie was nowhere to be found. The employees in the orphanage were getting worried. She would always come up by ten o'clock. But this time, she didn't.
"I'll go look for her. I know some of her friends. She may have visited them, stayed over and forgot to call us" she said, ready to leave. The employees let her do so. She walked and walked. She knocked on her friends' doors, but none of them had seen her. She was getting worried. As she was about to go back to the orphanage, she saw a large number of people holding guns and glaring at ten men. These men were wearing suits, whereas the other people were dressed in black leather clothes. Team A was written faintly on the back of a person's wrinkled, black, leather jacket. What in the world is Team A? She then recognized another person wearing the same exact jacket. Jennie. What was she doing here and why was she holding a gun? Who were these people anyway. Gunshots sounded. They started fighting and shooting each other. She crouched down and watched. Team A's members were surely stronger and more experienced than these men in suits. They had already shot three out of these six men down. Jennie was shooting another man when one of the two others was slowly coming up to her with a knife ready to stab her. Mary ran up to him, punching him so hard that he fell down, having some of his teeth knocked out. She then proceeded into stepping on his face hardly. He died. She was out of control. She grabbed his gun and shot the other two men at the head. Team A's members turned around looking at her with a shocked expression. Jennie didn't say anything. She dropped her gun and ran. She left. Forever. Mary started crying. Why would she even leave without explaining anything to her? A woman came up to her. She was blonde, with green eyes and a bright smile. Her face was decorated with tiny drops of blood.
"Young girl you have great potential. We'd like you to train to become an assassin. When you killed that my man I saw in your eyes that you were doing it for a reason. And I believe that this reason is because you witnessed someone getting killed. An innocent person. We kill these kind of people. People who take away innocent individuals' lives deserve to die" she explained. Mary's head was filled with thoughts and questions. She wanted this. She wanted to get revenge for that boy's death. She wanted to kill whoever was that horrible. She nodded her head. After that, Mary got trained and became a successful assassin. And this was only the start. Because soon enough a team would form.
