[December 2018]
Words are powerful.
In themselves, they are nothing.
A combination of fifty-two symbols
in a different order, in a different pattern,
and somehow
our brains connect them to meanings.
We see the word "apple"
and we think of the fruit.
We see a loved one's name
and we think of that person.
Stories are powerful.
A book is nothing but a cluster of pages
stamped with ink,
yet as we read it becomes much more.
It becomes a world of its own.
Characters are strangers,
figments of one person's imagination
that we will never meet.
But they become our friends, our families.
We laugh with them, we cry with them,
we hope and fear for them.
They were never alive, will never live,
yet we live through them
and they live through us.
Words are powerful.
